Overpriced and overrated. The sandwiches and offerings of soups, quiche and other items are nothing special really. Nice but not things I haven’t seen other places. Shelves are sparsely stocked, there is a small to non existent selection of add-ons to put with a sandwich like a little bag of pita chips or a bit of chocolate. The service is terrible. It takes such a long time to get a sandwich made I quit going there for quite a few years. The staff moves with the speed of elephants walking through molasses. I went back today to get lunch for my 2 managers and found that much to my chagrin, the service was no better. I was the only one ordering yet it took the girl so long to make my 2 sandwiches(which were identical to speed up the process) that not 1 but 2 customers came in and left without even being acknowledged. This was around noon too, the height of the lunch hour. Not sure how they would have handled an actual… lunch«crowd?»

This is somewhere decent to come for lunch every once in a while, but be prepared to feel young if you’re under the age of 50. I typically come here with my mother and her friends and stick out like a sore thumb but it’s nice to have a change in demographics every so often. They have some good food — I like their onion soup and paninis, but, it is quite expensive for what you get. Also, it’s often quite busy and you can end up queuing for a while and then have to wait another 20 minutes for food, so it’s not somewhere to go for a super fast lunch. I haven’t tried their desserts but they do look delicious. They also have a coffee bar that I have heard great things about, but I’ve yet to try it myself!

A little known place. It’s in the back of a really nice china shop; ask any Sacramento lady over the age of 50 and they will know where you’re talking about. The sandwiches are really great. Turkey with cranberry mayo is awesome and well proportioned with«just enough» of everything. They have lot’s of cold beverage choices, and a small patio outside that never sees direct sun. If around this part of town, go check it out.

This is a little-known inexpensive(but still with an upscale aura) lunch in the Sacramento ‘burbs. It does attract a mostly senior crowd for some reason, which is fine — they’re the in-the-know locals who are on a fixed income but still want a nice civilized lunch out. It somehow feels like a local«ladies who lunch» kind of place, but it is mostly older couples or singles. There are several sandwiches, hot or cold, a daily soup, a soup and sandwich special, and a number of deli salads and quiches, etc. All are around $ 7 – 9. Drinks from the case, or browse the collection of wines(sold by the bottle), or get a coffee drink from the coffee & tea bar. Order at the deli, be patient with the less-than-brilliant staff, then seat yourself at a café table inside or out in the garden courtyard — we were entertained by a 5-year-old testing out all of the LARGE chimes/gongs for sale outside. Nothing fancy, but a great spot for a nice tasty lunch inside the William Glen housewares store.
