We just learned about this tiny«mom and pop» theater and saw their matinée performance of «The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe» on December 17. It was a really fun and reasonably priced outing. An enthusiastic cast kept the attention of their audience throughout. A few of the younger cast members failed to enunciate and project enough to be understood, but they were in minor roles and did not detract much from the play. Several cast members were truly outstanding and clearly seasoned community theater performers. This is clearly a theater where rookies can learn the craft by working with seasoned performers and audiences can enjoy good entertainment without breaking the budget.

Cute little theater. My boyfriend’s friend Russell works the lighting for some of these shows, so he invited us to come and check one out. We went to watch the Shakespeare Abridged show. The show itself was comical and had us laughing in a few areas. They took a few volunteers from the crowd(there weren’t that many people, apparently the shows are slow on Friday nights) to help out with some of their skits. The theater room is large and the stage is a decent size. I think there are enough seats for at least 60 people? I can’t remember exactly, but there are plenty. The lobby is large and the staff who works here is quite friendly. They sell snacks, sodas, and waters for cheap as well(which you can eat/drink in the theater room). Admission with a student ID is about $ 10 — not bad. The show was at least an hour and a half long. During intermission, you can go across to the Fox &Goose pub if you have enough time — just for a quick drink! It’s right across from the parking lot.

The Studio Theatre is a very cozy 90-seat theatre in Midtown. It is conveintly located at 10th& R, across from the Fox & Goose, and around the block from Old Ironsides. The small staff is very friendly and accomodating. Before shows, and during intermission you can purchase coffee, cookies, pie, and other edibles in the lobby, and lounge on the couch or at the few tables in there. My first show there was«Pump Boys and Dinettes», a musical. The set was professionally designed, and set the tone for a very positive and fun performance. There was lots of audience participation, including one of the leads of the performance handing out a few glasses of wine to the crowd before the show! Parking is available next to the theater in several lots or on the street. Great theatre venue!
