Really just stumbled upon this amazing shop in Old Sacramento. A place to encourage and teach kids to get outdoors. Enjoy outdoors? What a concept. Hiking and camping stuff just for kids. Books about recreation. Plus this really fun scavenger hunt in Old Sacramento App and another one for Yosemite Valley. The sad news is that the store is closing next month. They will still have products on their website. Hopefully they’ll find another better location for this really fun store. Helps get parents and their kids engaged in outdoor recreation. If you haven’t visited(or even if you have) lets send this dynamic couple out with a bang for having the courage to attempt this retail gem.

I had found this place when I was googling places to have kids parties and this was one of the places that popped up. Loved what I saw online but would I love it in person? Went down to check it out and booked it! This place is so… AWESOME for kids parties. My daughter was turning four and you can have a bug lady or an animal lady to come in to talk to the kids. We chose the bug lady :) Danielle was so awesome! She had the kids so interested about the bugs she brought. She even gives the kids a chance to hold them if they wanted. At the end my daughter had gotten a tee shirt and some chocolate covered ants which was a sweet surprise. While the party was still going on the owner of the place was extremely friendly, organized and helpful though out the party. Its very clean and family oriented. Some of the things in the shop are a little pricey but if you think about it, you could spend just as much on a toy at toys r us and it not be fun for the whole family. With the things they sell in the store, its fun for the whole family and you get to see you child get excited about learning something new. :) We are already planing on having my daughters fifth birthday here next year and just switching it up with the animal lady. She still talks about how she loved her party.

I noticed this place as we were leaving the railroad museum. They had a poster advertising free scavenger hunts of Old Sac. We went in and picked one up. The man behind the counter was friendly and helpful. We spent an hour and a half searching through the clues and stores. After my boys turned in the paper they were able to select a prize from the treasure chest. The prices are higher than if you went to a larger retail store so I probably won’t ever purchase anything there. At least it is clean and organized.

Love this shop!!! We arrived on a Sunday and did the scavenger hunt with the kids! free fun! We like geocaching and they sell lots of geocaching items as well.(I told them they should have a cache hidden outside the shop, or at the counter for cachers!!!) Very nice family run business.

Among arriving into Old Sac we made our way around. This store was our first stop. We noticed a sign outside and then I saw the word«geocaching» I thought cool! I told my son, OK lets go ask about that.(since we love to go caching and we did find 3 during our visit). The whole store had a nice variety of nature items. They even had poison oak soap(just hope that you’ll never have to use it! blah) Lots of cool fossils, rocks and minerals. Interesting books, science project sets and other types of toys. I made my way to the geocaching items… travel bugs, geocoins, cachekins, trackable patches, GPSr’s, vehicle window and magnetic tb’s(oh yes I did buy one for my car — how fun is that?!) I was like a kid in a toy store just in that section alone. I was tempted to buy Signal the Frog — the mascot of . I was hoping that they had t-shirts, but nope. aw. There’s another section of little tables for projects, though today there wasn’t anything going on. The man at the counter was really nice and didn’t follow us around like a used car sales man. ha ha We went around Old Sac and did the scavenger hunt and had a lot of fun — it took us to parts that we have never been to, though we have been there a lot. You have to visit this store when visiting Old Sac, its right across the street from the CA Railroad Museum.

This store is super interesting even though it is directed towards kids. I’m surprised that it hasn’t been on Unilocal yet. I will write a real review once I come here again, I came the same day of Museum Day 2010. their activity section really caught my attention, which is what I will be coming back for!

Trailmix.Net is the best shop in Old Sacramento. A visit to Old Sacramento(with kids) starts and ends here. Drop by and pick up the FREE scavenger hunt and let FUN be your respite from the endless rows of candy shops and jewelry stores. It’s quite refreshing to see a retail shop opened with a mission: Outdoor youth education. Products there are aimed at science… discovery… nature. Drop by to pick up contour maps for nearby parks, books on the 60 best hiking trails within 60-miles of Sacramento. Or like me, BPA-free nalgene water bottles. Oh, and the store is family-friendly. I ended up here with a hungry, wet-diapered baby and the store manager helped me get that situation under control. 5-stars.
