Tupelo Coffee House and Roasting

Found this place by doing a local search. I wanted to try something different than the typical Starbucks. I didn’t have any expectations but when I walked in I felt a great atmosphere.
Coffee tasted great, prices are comparable to anywhere else. We ordered a mocha and a latte.
The inside space is huge. I love how people have room to sit around. It is very spacious. There were several people on laptops doing their own thing. It didn’t feel crowded like other coffee shops.
They have some outside seating too. It’s a great place to get away and have a nice vibe. I will definitely be coming back for studying and drinks at a later time.
Very satisfied!

If you are looking for the BEST coffeehouse in the Sacramento area, then I highly encourage you to visit «Tupelo Coffee House and Roasting». It has everything you want and much, much more. To those of you who have frequented this busy East Sacramento location, it has been a very popular location for Sac State study groups, book clubs, internet-​savvy techies, and families. And best of all, it offers a cool, industrial theme yet keeping the spacious building modern and very pleasing.
For those of you that didn’t know this, «Tupelo Coffee» is actually owned by the same people who run the popular «Naked Lounge» coffee house as well as two other people Sacramento restaurants, «Orphan Breakfast House» and «Arthur Henry’s Supper Room». Since I don’t live close to this area anymore, I only visit here once in a blue moon. This has always been a place where the locals and regulars go. And I have to say, the quality of their coffees is better than their main local competitors, primarily «Old Soul» and «Temple».
The location itself is located off of Elvas Ave. and 56^th St. in the upscale East Sacramento neighborhood adjacent to 57^th Street Antique Row. Since this is very dense commercial shopping area, parking can be very limited, especially in the mornings. Therefore, you might have to park a block or two away if you plan on visiting here during peak times. And as I had mentioned, the inside is very roomy but can also fill up quickly with people that get carried away looking at their laptops. And the nice luxury of this location is that they’re open every day of the year from 6am-​11pm!
Some of the great perks of this location is that they do offer a nice outdoor patio area which is perfect for those comfortable Sacramento days. Additionally, there are plenty of areas to park your bike (if you’re an avid bicyclist such as myself). And best of all, this place has very fast (and free) Wi-​Fi which is great for those people who wish to watch videos and movies on their portable electronic devices.
Now onto the coffee itself. I do have to be honest that the beans that «Tupelo Coffee» uses has the smoothest and richest flavors out there. The quality is definitely made with a smooth, Arabica flavor in their house coffees while they lattes and mochas uses some of the finest quality espresso beans. And for those of you who are non-​coffee drinkers, I would have to say their «Bowl of Soul» is absolutely heavenly. This is made of soy milk, honey, chamomile tea, and drizzled with Ibarra chocolate. It is also available at their sister location, «Naked Lounge» in Midtown Sacramento. And if you happen to bring the children, they offer some of the best Mexican Hot Chocolate out there that can rival any big coffee shop.
Everything here is made of high quality and it artistic in every way possible. In fact, they are known for making dazzling displays with your drinks which is worth taking a snapshot with your smartphone. And if you do wish to grab a treat with your beverage, «Tupelo» carries a very respectable variety of muffins, crossiants, cookies, bagels, and granola. Overall, I will continue to support this local Sacramento business. The service is outstanding, the coffee is top-​notch, and the overall experience is bar none worth checking out!

Comfy seats, a good amount of outlets, good coffee (I got the Thai coffee upon recommendation from the barista), clean, and spaced nicely. Downside would be the noise level. Parking lot is small but there’s street parking.

Stopped in this morning after breakfast to catch up on Unilocaling. Ordered the Thai Coffee, which was waaaay too sweet for me. The lady behind the counter offered to fix it by pouring out half of the drink and refilling with coffee. I really appreciated the effort, but the Thai Coffee just isn’t a good fit for me — but I hear a lot of people really like it.
I’m giving 4 Stars because a fellow customer sitting near me continued allowing his puppy to jump on my legs while seated. How weird was that?

Always love the vibe of this bright open space. The seating is plenty, staff friendly, and coffee awesome.

Located near CSU Sacramento. First off, order the Mocha Thai. The condensed milk added creates such a difference that you’ll be hooked. The area in general is an open concept. They have separate tables for individual studies and a community table for anyone else. They also have outdoor seating. I’m not sure if they always do this, but they don’t call out your drinks and your barista hands it to you. Gave a nice touch! The Mocha Thai came in one size but it was definitely worth it. They added whip cream on top and sprinkled chocolate powder. If you’re in the area I highly recommend coming here.

4 stars for the best caffeinated drink I ever imbibed. And two words for an expensive espresso drink connosieur with great taste: The Keuroac. It’s a cool, sulty, strong, sexy even drink that is $ 5 and lasts about 2 minutes cuz I can down that baby in 3 sips. Less a star cuz for $ 5 they should give more than just 3 sips.
5 stars for the place. Love the place itself, waaay better than the Naked Coffee joints in Downtown Sac. More neutral, less freaky pictures, no homeless sleeping on couches, no dirty couches, more couches period, and it’s just more visually appealing. In the other places I would fear I would catch the flu. This place looks way more sanitized. But has same great drinks.
1 star for parking. Been here 2x, parking is slim to come by both times. But dont worry I won’t count this against this place. Although parking here really sucks.

The people are so friendly and the product is out of this world. If you’re looking for genuine good coffee Tupelo is the place to go!

Just a visit to chat with a friend I hadn’t seen in awhile. Service was prompt and no line at 4:00 PM on the day after Thanksgiving. I had some green tea which came with a mug and small pot and little catcher for the leaves that came out of the spout. It was chilly inside once the sun had set and I had already finished my tea, but otherwise a simple and pleasant experience.

Simply amazing coffee!
I stopped in this afternoon since my wife had a craving for a Mexican Hot Chocolate. She ordered that, and I went with the Thai Coffee. We both loved our selections! The Hot Chocolate was rich and creamy and had a hint of cinnamon. My Thai Coffee was similarly delicious. It is a simple combination of their house coffee and condensed milk, and it was out of this world! I also saw a few Cups of Soul that looked fantastic. I’ll have to try this next time.
The prices are similar to starbucks, but much higher quality ingredients and much better tasting.
They also have a ton of electrical outlets, and great music which makes for a great place to grab a cup of coffee, relax, and do some studying if you are a Sac State student.
If you are in East Sac and are looking for a great cup of coffee or espresso, look no further than Tupelo!

When Tortilla Chip girl first sent in her application at Sac State (we both graduated from UCD), THIS was the first location we ever found — that day, we both spent HOURS here studying/​drinking DELICIOUS coffee admist a slightly inappropriate but profoundly educated group of men and women (…seems to be the typical crowd here).
I’ve been here several times since — including last Saturday. Tortilla Chip girl and I had a bit of work to do; she lives very close to this location and thus, we took a leisurely stroll to our favorite Sac Town coffee shop. The parking lot was packed (even the parking lot across from Starbucks, even the street parking). We went in the late afternoon so the coffee shop was packed as well (high school students, college students, professors grading papers, couples with children, friends catching up on the couches — Tupelo is well loved by ALL).
I decided to order something OTHER than just coffee (thus, this review). It’s well known that I’m a huge fan of Temple’s Bliss Tea SO I decided to TRY Tupelo’s Bowl of Soul. At first glance, I thought it was a «copycat» of Temple’s Bliss Tea, but upon CLOSER inspection, its actually really very different. The Bowl of Soul features chamomile tea, instead of peppermint, and is topped with chocolate shavings. The tea comes out in a rather large BOWL (thus, BOWL of SOUL) but to be honest, I prefer the tea pot Temple uses for their Bliss (probably around the same serving size, however). The problem with the bowl is that the tea got COLD rather quickly, since it was exposed to the air, WHILE the Bliss is protected by the teapot. Both teas have a very mild, milky flavor and are sweetened lightly with honey. I do think that the Bliss is more flavorful (it also includes coconut milk). Overall, both teas are excellent — although I do have a slight preference for the Bliss Tea.
On this particular day, it was really hard to find seating. We had to wait outside before tables opened up inside the shop. We typically don’t have problems finding seating (especially early in the morning) because people come and go rather quickly. Can’t wait until I come back again!

Some friends and I wandered into here one Saturday afternoon. For the most part, every seat was taken, but the room is so large that it did not feel like it was packed even though we could not find a place to sit. We were greeted by the friendly cashier. I had planned to come here specifically because I wanted to try one drink: the bowl of soul. My mind was set and I already knew. I ordered my said Bowl of Soul, received it with beautiful presentation, and took a sip-​it was everything I thought it would taste like. It was hot, fluffy, frothy, slightly sweet from the honey, soothing from the chamomile tea-​perfect. The chocolate on top was a nice touch and added a little more sweetness with every sip. I was sad to reach the end of the cup. I can’t wait to come back!

Having been back to this spot for years! and I am loving it!!! Lots of seatingn, both comfy for those just looking to relax and chit chat with friends and small booths to the side for those of us whose looking for a place to get some work done. :) There is a large menu of items from coffee drinks to an array of pastry items (muffins and bagels).
The décor is retro, kind of dated but all very functional and comfortable. This place is probably not the type of coffee shop you’d like to take on a first date… but still a cool spot for a causal coffee date.
I haven’t been back here since undergrad when i was still attending Sac state about 10 years ago. I forget that Tupelo never lets me down.

The kids and I were sitting at home with dinner already under our belt and decided to get out for a little night cap.
I’ve been here once before alone and my drink was sweet enough that I figured it was a slam dunk for kids hot coco. It’s been a while since I’ve been in college and I totally forgot I spent my entire college career inside coffee shops… So needless to say it was packed inside. No worries, it’s still plenty warm outside. We found a table on the front patio.
I tried out the bowl of soul, the kids got hot cocos, and we shared a maple scone.
Kids loved their drinks, topped with more than ample whipped cream.
I was not impressed with the scone. My first visit I had a pumpkin cream cheese muffin, it was dense and again, not «to die for». Not sure where their pastries are from, they’re just super heavy.
BOWL OF SOUL is everything and more. Nice creamy, flavor of the camomile tea comes right through, with some great choc covered foam. Perfection.
My only logistical disappointments– no outlets outside which killed our Netflix idea and poor lighting on the patio which killed my reading idea (and I think the patio would have great ambiance with some lights on the overhang).

Where coffee goes to dress up like a karate kid!
A hidden gem, that makes me happy! Well, it’s not really that hidden, because it is almost always full of coffee seekers, Mac Book users, social butterfly’s, and boughie soccer families.
Lucky for them, they brew the infamous Naked Coffee and Sacramentans love this stuff, me included! From their house coffee to their Soy Mocha, I’ve always left in caffeinated heaven, their flavors are amazing.
I will say, for whatever reason they choose, they have the weirdest coffee holder situation. They take napkins, fold them up and then tie them around the cup. It looks really awkward and functionally, it sucks. I’m not sure why someone hasn’t already told them this, but maybe they think it’s a quirk that sells for them. Whatever it is, my coffee is a black belt in caffeine dispensary!
They have pastries and even sell Odwalla (I think) juices. They offer all the great coffee shop drinks, even though I stick to two things normally. They have indoor and outdoor seating, which keeps the masses happy. If you happen to stop by, it’s almost a guarantee you will see someone on patio with their huge dog, taking up lots of space.
The only not so fun part is parking. You can try street park on Elvas or in the lot next door, but I think it’s kinda frowned upon since it is for those businesses there. I don’t stay long, so I haven’t had an issue… but if you are one of those people that hibernate at coffee shops ride your bike or take your chances with parking!
Keepin’ the East Sac-​ies happily caffeinated one white belt coffee at a time!

Awesome hours (open until 11 pm daily) and very spacious with loads of seating for relaxing/​studying/​reading. The specialty coffee drinks here are very well done including the popular Mocha Thai and Bowl of Soul. I found that the latter was particularly tasty because really, how can one go wrong with chamomile tea?
Coffee is available both by drip and pour over via V60, and kudos to the barista for a superbly made Ethiopia Mokamba single origin brew.
And lastly, the WiFi here is very speedy and pretty much seals the deal.

I came in on a Tuesday morning before 7 a.m. after working out and before heading to my job.
I like the fact that they open at 6 a.m. since another place I was thinking of going to only opens at 7 a.m. on weekdays.
I ordered a 12oz mocha for here with an extra shot since it only comes standard with one shot of espresso. Minus one star for that. My mocha was pretty good though and I chatted with the barista about how Tupelo is sponsoring SPLAT this year and some of their baristas will be competing.
The atmosphere here is pretty good and the furniture is comfortable. It’s a pretty spacious area with an assortment of couch style seating and also tables and chairs. There is also a patio outside for when the weather is nice.
This isn’t a destination coffee shop for me, but I would definitely come back if I was already in the area and wanted coffee.

Omg. This may be my favorite coffee shop. Ever.
ATMOSPHERE: Great study place. Plenty of tables, lots of outlets around and free wifi. Staff are cool with you camping out to study and don’t give you a hard time over it. Lots of couches and booths as well if you need a more comfy sitting place. Super open environment, with a high ceiling and lots of natural lighting. They play good music that isn’t distracting. There’s also outside seating if you wanna enjoy your cup o joe on a beautiful day. Love it here!
PARKING: Private lot to the side, watch for the 90 minute parking spots if you’re planning to stay longer. Street parking around too.
DRINKS:
+++ Bowl of Soul, $ 4.75 +++ Chamomile tea steeped in soy milk, with a bit of honey and Ibarra chocolate drizzled on top to spell «soul». Great photo-​op, and it was absolutely delicious to drink. I don’t usually like chamomile tea, but it was so good with the soymilk!
+++ Mocha Thai, $ 4.50 +++ Homemade mocha made from Ghiradelli chocolate and Ibarra chocolate, with espresso and condensed milk. Topped with plenty of whipped cream, and some drizzles of mocha syrup. Super creamy and yet not too sweet, although I have a crazy sweet tooth.
I so so wish Tupelo had a coffee shop in socal! This place is perfect to hang out or study.

Finally.
Everything I’ve been seeking in a coffee shop and it was right under my nose the whole time. At one point I felt like crying, and I’m not sure if they would have been tears of joy or if it was brought on by the sad 70s singer-​songwriter station they were playing. Nothing brings on the waterworks like a satisfying beverage, a homey atmosphere, reliable Wi-​Fi and Gordon Lightfoot singing «If You Could Read My Mind.»
The features that make this shop superior to the alternatives are plentiful. Any of the coffees are fantastic. They have a «Bowl of Soul» as good as the one served at Naked Lounge downtown, so perhaps it’s the same ownership? It’s a spacious interior with plenty of work/​relax space, fairly comfortable chairs and even dividers so you can work somewhat privately without interruption. And the Wi-​Fi, unlike Naked, Temple, Old Soul or Chocolate Fish (which doesn’t even have Wi-​Fi at their East Sac location), is always reliable.

If there’s something I truly adore about the Bay Area, it’s that there’s always a hidden café in every corner that appeals to my taste palate.
At first, I wasn’t sure I’d find a place here in Sacramento, but I was lucky enough to stumble upon this place after class.
Pros:
— Near Sacramento State, basicallt where I like to spend some of my free time at.
— Overall nice and homely ambiance, with ample amount of seating and tables.
— Parking lot next to the place or you can do street parking.
— Near other eateries and such.
— Menu consists of warm drinks, special drinks, traditional coffee, drinks for kids, and pastries.
— Free Wifi is always an essential in a café. Not sure why, but it’s good for doing homework I guess.
— Workers are pretty cool and chill to talk to, be sure to ask about their favorites and it might be your favorite too!
— Takes cash and card.
Cons:
— Slightly pricey for certain drinks.
— Parking lot is only 90 minutes. Sometimes, you just wanna lose yourself in caffeine for longer than 90 minutes.

Basically, a concoction of chamomile tea steeped in steamed soy milk, with a splash of honey and topped with Ibarra chocolate. A most satisfying drink during the cold weather if you’re trying to reduce your caffeine intake.
