Zazon Guadalajara Grill

Zazon changed owners, we went last night, and while it was OK, it did not compare to the last owner. Salsas were very good, so were the chips, beans were very good, but rice was just OK. Enchiladas and flautas a bit disappointing, but not awful, just not as good as past owners. If they were to shred the chicken instead of big chunks that looked and tasted like pork, they would have a winner dish. I feel they can become great if they improve their rice and shred their chicken. I will give it another try and see how other dishes taste. I gave them 4 stars because I did love their salsas, and service was good and friendly ;)

I «use» to be a regular here it was my favorite restaurant in sac. But after my last visit i will never step foot in there again the food was terrible not even to mention the customer service.

We were in the area and decided to check this place out for a quick bite. First thing I noticed was that the lady at the counter was really friendly. She checked up on us every so often and even cracked a couple of jokes. I ordered the tortas ahogadas and it was a pretty good amount of food for the price. It also looked like an event was going to happen shortly (their window advertises live mariachi), but we had to bail before that. If we happen to be in the area again, I would definitely come back! :)

Well tomorrow is the last night of the old guard, I say good night to you and your happy hour tacos. I will always love you guys. Omar you are the bomb!

Really Good Michelladas !!! Food is excellent with real Mexican flavor

Dude! Did they get rid of the sewage smell they had all over the restaurant? I had no complaints about this place till that one day my daughters and I came in for our Mexican fix and oh-​my– Gosh! Grossest smell. We became nauseous and left.

My favorite go to with great food and awesome service.
I go here often during lunch time and I’m always greeted by the owner or his son. Super nice and always happy. The food is done perfect and I usually take the free chips and salsa. It’s counter service and the food arrives pretty fast.
There’s a jar of their «speciality» drink they have at the counter I recommend to for a sample of. I usually see restaurants have horchata but the last time I went it was a watermelon slush style drink… YUM.

Cool little spot. Came here to check out their beer specials. Ended up listening to a live band and enjoying beers with the fam. We will be back for sure!

Came here with the husband for a quick bite. Heard a lot of great thing about this place so we finally came to try it.
We had the carnitas nachos to share & it seemed very small. We looked at each other like, that’s it ?
Service wasnt spectacular, it’s as if they knew we only came to order one thing.
I would have ordered more BUT feeling like chop liver won’t make you want to stick around.
I won’t be back, don’t need to give it another chance, there are plenty of other places to scope out IMO.
TIP: try to be more attentive to your customers…

It was an OK visit. Our food was cold, it took a while for somebody to check on us to see if we needed anything. I would probably come back, but it won’t be anytime soon.

I’m happy I found this little GEM in my neighborhood the food was great. chip and salsa bar was sooo good !!! My family and I deforested found our go to Mexican restaurant

I am extremely picky about my coctel and micheladas… BEST CÓCTEL & MICHELADA I’ve had in the states. Hands down. Definitely coming back!

Absolutely no complaints! Food was delicious! Prices were very affordable, mariachi music was fantastic and service was on point! I ordered the steak ranchero and my husband ordered caldo 7 mares. Both were delicious! We will definetly come back. Make sure you arrive right at 2pm Sunday for the mariachi or before 2pm if you don’t like loud music!

Wow! This place was suggested to me by a friend and I will definitely be going back.
The staff was very friendly and I was tended to immediately. The restaurant was clean and nicely decorated. I can’t wait to go back and try the zopes, tortas, tacos… Everything!
Chips and salsa were brought to our table and they were good, the salsa was very hott — but I like that. There are other options you can choose from and the salsa and chips are unlimited — so make all the trips you want!
I ordered the regular michelada and it was very refreshing. They have the option to add shrimp to your michelada as well, which I couldn’t do due to allergies.
I also ordered the large Pozole and omg it was soo good! Honestly tasted home made. I originally thought the large was too much but I finished the entire bowl, juice and all!
Last but not least, I got a piece of the tres leches cake. Was moist, sweet and the perfect end to everything I had.

This being a relatively new addition to the neighborhood my husband wanted to give them a try.
Their rice & beans were proclaimed good. He was happy with the other items he tried, and the many additional salsas and sauces from which to choose.
He has had me bring him back twice more. The last time was just to get a large drink. They have several available (in different assortments) each day. Last time he got cantaloupe.
Prices are reasonable.

I came here because of some happy hour special, but stayed to have dinner. It was only after we ate here that my friend told me they changed management and went downhill.
The place looked run down, inside and out. We ordered tortas, carne en su jugo, camarones a la diabla, and enchiladas. All of the food was just ok, nothing special. There were only two other customers, but service was slow.

Best torta in town. Fabulous service, fabulous fresh food, fabulous prices. This place has proven is can hang in this neighborhood of good Mexican options. I highly recommend rockin’ the «al pastor» meat option — it’s pork, but it’s superior to the carnitas-​style preparation. You can get tortas, tacos, and burritos all «al pastor».
It’s hard to be a new Mexican restaurant in Sacramento — people have their long-​standing favorites, already. It’s telling the Zazon Guadalajara is packed full of people, particularly Mexican people, all weekend.

So basically Zazon can go toe to toe with the best of the dozens of Mexican spots in mile radius. It’s pretty damn good. The meats have plenty of flavor, good texture, and are quality rather than fatty grizzle. The couple of seafood items I’ve tasted seemed fresh and well prepared.
Great chips and salsa start things off right. If you get tacos you notice the tortillas hold up and have nice little toast on them. All the meats I’ve tried have been great. ive barbacoa or lengua a whirl. If you like citrus, shrimp, and serrano heat try the aguachile here. That’s pretty much all there is to it. You get a hearty amount of large, fresh tasting shrimp in a lime, cilantro, and serrano purée. Think ceviche’s much hotter primo.
It’s worth noting live (mariachi) band karaōke is on Sunday as astute Unilocaler Jacqueline W already noted. Maybe without words on a screen it’s not technically karaōke, but you can sing with the band backing you. Mexicans just know these songs though, so no teleprompter needed. My grandpa would be right up there singing. You should know about this if you plan on wandering in on a Sunday afternoon. It’s LOUD. I mean, there is a guy blowing trumpet indoors. They do a great job. It’s very cool, just LOUD.
Finally, I’ve gotten great service here. Sometimes you order at the counter and they take it to you. Other times, curiously, they tell you to have a seat and they promptly wait on you. Either way, it’s been great. Usually there are a couple of English speakers working.
Zazon is legit. Arriba las Chivas!!!

This place is pretty freaking awesome. They have a nice little salsa bar. I love the fire roasted salsa. Delicious!
I walked into this place and really wanted the taco salad this woman was eating. It’s in a huge taco shell. I liked the al pastor but it was a little on the dry side. The shell wasn’t ideal, but it was ok. It wasn’t crunchy, but actually crispy and a tad oily, which I didn’t really care for. But I still enjoyed it because it was good with everything else. The horchata was actually pretty good, but very different from regular horchata. It was much more spicy then normal horchata in a good way. Not spicy as in burn your booty hot, but spicy as in there are spices in the drink. :)
My bf got the nachos with lengua. I don’t know why he wanted tongue, but I don’t care much for tongue. It wasn’t actually too bad though. It was pretty darn tasty for something that was supposedly tongue.
This place is pretty darn good. I will be back to try more. The service is pretty good too, considering it’s a hole in the wall.

AWESOME GRUB!!! Food is delish! Seriously folks, out of 6 people at our table, we all had something different. All dishes eye appealing and plentiful of killer Mexican food! They’ve got whatever Yummy Mexican food your craving! You cant go wrong with their warm chips and homemade salsa! Hot to fire, to mild to chunky, to a mixture its all great salsa! Free refills on soda too!
Awesome service and very clean establishment! Bright cheery lime green walls welcome you in!
Outside its not the most attractive but so worth the try! You’ll be coming back!
