Food was great. Wop salad yummy, steak sandwich delish, french fries, and battered mushrooms yum. Service 1 star. Had to ask for extra plates, refills on our drinks. I realize the delay in getting our food was not the waitress ’ s fault but… worst service I’ve ever had in my entire life. Hands down worst!

Every time I’m in town they pull me back in … Every time I’m in the Tri-City area: this is the place that must be visited! I have never had a bad meal here ever. The Wop salad, to me, is what their steak sandwich is to most people: utterly irresistible. This is the best Italian salad I’ve eaten in my life, so far, but there was that one salad in New York City that I saw, but did not order … Anyway, I do not understand the bad reviews this place gets, but you can be the best and there are those that go for the Jackwess. To each their own, those fools may never wake up to the pearls that they are offered, and will choose to dine with swine instead. If you are looking for a large amount of great Italian Family food, at an incredibly cheap price, that tastes so good your taste buds will have dreams about it; this is the place for you! Point to anything on the menu and it will be great. There are people that travel very long distances just for the steak sandwich alone … The banana split is so huge; it should be an eating contest! Seriously, it could easily feed four people for dessert. Breakfast, lunch, or dinner; if you love the show ‘Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives’ you will feel at home here, there is a table waiting for you …

A trip home means a visit to Tony’s. Google the word«home» and you’ll see a photo of Tony’s Famous Steak Sandwich. Also great for breakfast. As a teenager, this was my second home. Double Yummy!!!

Avoid Tony’s on State. Lousy service. We waited 30mins after ordering and watched the waitress walk past us wait on at least two groups who arrive after after us. They were served and nearly done eating and were still waiting for our food. Will not go back and urge readers not to go there.

This place still brings back memories but the original cubed steak sandwich made this place famous in the 60’s &70’s. At some point they changed to a ground patty and it lost some of the charm and flavor. They still use the same great local bread for their sandwiches. And the sauce they put on it is very good.

Best place ever! Whether for breakfast, lunch, dinner or dessert, you are guaranteed something satisfying. There Italian sausage is the greatest ever. They are known for their steak sandwiches and awesome breakfasts.

My favorite Tonys restaurant. The fried here are incredible! My favorite means item is the turkey club. Piled high with turkey lettuce and bacon, it’s amazing.

Still a fan! Although it took 3 years to make it back, I was not leaving the area without devouring that steak sammy! There’s nothing you need to change as far as the sandwich. The grilled steak sandwich is still the star of the show. I love the grease, the sauce and the bread. The décor could be spruced up but then maybe the character of the place would lose some luster…

I grew up on Tony’s(this one) and everytime I go back to Saginaw I have to have my Tony’s fix. Most times I stop by Tony’s before I even visit the family. The Grilled Steak Sammich is one of the best sandwhiches on the planet. I can’t believe that it was not on «Best Sandwich in America» with Adam Rich. I will say that every Tony’s varies a little but this one on State Rd at Bay Rd has never let me down after over 30 years. If you are anywhere near Saginaw do yourself a favor and check out Tony’s you can thank me later. :)

Tony’s is all right if you enjoy greasy, low quality food at a medium price. I’ve been going to Tony’s since I was a kid and I have to admit, the food has never stood out as the star of the show. You usually go to Tony’s for an evening with friends or family, not for the food. Kind of one of those places you want, but once you have it you’re not sure anymore. Large serving sizes but not a lot of variety. Ice berg lettuce salads, basic cuts of fish and chicken, messy sandwiches. NOTVEGETARIANFRIENDLY! Sometimes the wait is real short, other times you wait forty-five minutes for your appetizer. Really, Tony’s is the place for nostalgia; the people who’ve been going since they were a child and enjoy specific items on their menu. My mother obsesses over the steak sandwiches, my brother over the wet burritos. Both basic, not-very-exciting dishes, but memorable for the ones who enjoy them the most.

Let me start off by saying this is my first time to Saginaw. Wasn’t sure what to expect when we pulled up but the place is clean & staff is very friendly. The food is terrific & you get so much quality food for your $$ Woppy Burger is ½ burger $ 3.95 fries are extra at $ 2.25 but you get a heaping of fry-frys! Pizza is amazing too We ordered the 16″ pizza & ended up eating it for 2 days! ask them to cook it a bit longer, but amazing pizza for the $$ — not a deep dish but not a flat crust either. Wonder if they are affiliated with Tonys at Birch Run?

I only really eat here after a long night fueled by adult beverages, but it always serves the purpose. I don’t think my sober stomach would agree, but my hungover one loves it. Steak sandwich, grilled, pizza cheese. Fries with gravy. Boom-cured.

The food was good as usual and large portions but the service was terrible. I stood at the register waiting to place my order and both girls behind the counter acted like I was not even there. After a couple minutes of them doing nothing but stand with their backs to me while chatting with the kitchen staff, one finally asked«what can I get you». This was with her still looking towards the kitchen with her back towards me. Both had saw me walk in and walk up to the counter before turning around and start chatting to the kitchen staff… there was no greeting at all. If I wasn’t craving the nachos so much I would have left… I was about 5 seconds from walking out as it was!

Good restaurant. Large portions and great prices. Environment: feels like a old-school diner. If you get lucky, you’ll see the regulars sitting in their usual spots. You’ll know who they are when you see them. Food comes out fresh. Always ordered the steak sandwich without cheese. The bread is cut from a large baguette and is buttered and toasted. Patty is ground steak and covered with a marinara sauce. Fries or chips are not included If you order the sundae, make sure you’re not the only one eating it. 9 mounds of ice cream(3 each of chocolate, strawberry, vanilla) with bananas, pineapple, whipped cream and chocolate syrup.

Had my first steak sandwich with grilled onions and mushrooms here decades ago. A brick of mystery meat topped old school Saginaw way, onions and mushrooms is the way to go. People nowadays may opt for it with cheese as well. Don’t be mistaken, this is no «steak meat» sandwich. Rather it’s a meatloaf of some sort. Not the greatest thing ever created, but a hometown favorite that has stood the test of time. A Tony’s steak sandwich or their nachos are the only ways to go and never lightly. If you’ve got an iron stomach to try something different, go ahead and bookmark it. Otherwise, save the trouble, it’s an acquired taste.

I was in Saginaw for a wedding and had a couple of hours to kill, so I decided to try out whatever restaurant had some good reviews on Unilocal.Stumbling upon Tony’s was great since downtown Saginaw is a little more barren than most downtowns. The place has that family owned, no muss no fuss charm to it. Everyone looks like a regular, and they all know just what to order: Great Steak with pizza cheese and Mushrooms Sandwich. It was a monstrous sandwich(mostly thanks to the large slices of thick Italian Bread, which i would have liked buttered and toasted, and if not that, at least toasted… it doesn’t seem right to put cold bread on a hot sandwich, but that’s how they eat it there!) The steak patties was delicious with marinara and mushrooms piled high… although i do have a gripe about the mushrooms too: they definitely weren’t freshly sauteed, more like sliced canned mushrooms. The sandwich was still good overall, but I would have liked 1) The bread toasted and 2) fresh sauteed mushrooms, those two things would have made the sandwich EVEN better! The fried mushrooms were perfect though! I saw some other people around us ordering their pizza’s and breakfast items… they all looked delicious. One thing I can definitely say is, they have gigantic portions for the $ you pay. I like a joint that knows how to feed hungry fat arses!

This is a good, local and authentic Italian-inspired diner with an old middle American working class charm to it. There’s breakfast, some pasta dishes, VERY yummy looking NY-Style pizza, burgers, sandwiches and some nice dessert treats on the menu(among other stuff). As it was my first time here, I made sure to order what the place is best known for, their«Great Steak w/pizza cheese & mushrooms Sandwich.» It had big soft authentic Italian bread on it — very big, thick sliced, fresh and hard outer rim crust. The bread is not toasted or buttered — which some may complain about, but I think it’s more authentic this way. Personally the main drawback to the huge Italian bread on the sandwich is that you need more meat in the sandwich to make up for it. If you don’t wanna cough up the extra money, then you can request smaller sliced bread. The sandwich has«pizza cheese»(mozzarella?), tons of mushrooms, and a decent sized juicy ground steak patty on it. It was all brought together in the sandwich with their house«red sauce» which seems to be nothing more special than some mediocre marinara sauce. The sandwich was pretty good but with the bread being sliced so thick — the patty was kind of undermined in it, so coughing up the $ 3 extra would probably be worth it to improve the meat to bread ratio. You could always take the cheaper/healthier route and just ask them for thinner sliced bread too, but I would rather have the big bread with more meat. The mushrooms were from the can — fresh sliced and sautéed to order would be much tastier. Double the steak in the sandwich, and I would say a side to the sandwich is not even necessary, as you will leave full as hell! Anyhow, if you’re in Saginaw for a couple hours like I was and want to try the best local eats on a budget — there’s no contest that Tony’s Original Restaurant is your bet. It’s a cozy, hometown diner with an appealing menu. While their famous Great Steak sandwich can be broken down into mediocre ingredients — the sum of its parts are greater as a whole. The«Intermission Deli» right next to it looks like it’d be a great 2nd choice though! Check it out!
