Steak ‘n Shake

Had a bacon lovers cheeseburger with Parmesan fries and a cookie batter milkshake. It was all delicious, but the cookie batter milkshake was the icing on the cake.

I smelled the cheap perfume from the moment I went through the door. Hoping it was a customer i got a booth as far away from anyone else as i could. But it was the waitress. An oddly cute girl, but surly as hell. She took my order, slapped it down about 10 minutes later then disappeared — which was really fine with me because the perfume was making me nauseous. Burger was OK, fries were OK. this place is like going back in time, to a not so great era. cash register was clogged up by a woman who couldn’t read the menu — same woman who was bragging her children weren’t in public school. Praise the Lord and pass the welfare check.

They have nearly nothing vegetarian. Seriously. The only thing I could really order was an order of fries. Really? In 2015 you don’t have a veggie burger? Fail. I like Steak N Shake, but I don’t like this location. Or the fact that there’s no veggie burger. Won’t be back for a while.

If I use the drive thru and stay on line for 19 minutes, I expect your usually gr8 Hot French fries and my milkshake to be Thick. Not the opposite. Tonight I’m not happy at all.

First off, the store was uncomfortably cold. I heard multiple customers complaining about this. We were having a pleasant experience other wise until the food arrived. I ordered the Guacamole Steakburger off the main menu, not the $ 4 meal. The burger I ordered was described on the menu as being a double, dressed with guacamole, pepper jack cheese, chipotle mayo, lettuce, red onion, and tomato. What arrived at my table was a single with guacamole and pepper jack cheese. I addressed this with The server and rather than say that she was sorry and she misunderstood my order, she proceeded to disagree with me. She told me that was what I ordered and acted baffled when I said it was not. I explained that it was supposed to have the things listed on the menu and she told me that I, the customer, had to specify that. I have worked in customer service for 25 years. I have done it in food service, retail, service, and call center environments. It has never been appropriate to place blame on the customer when there is a problem with the customer’s order or product or service. The appropriate response is to apologize, address the issue, and make sure that the customer has no further problems. After this she offered to have my food remade, but I was eating with my 9 year old son, and did not want to have to wait for the food to be remade. After eating, I went to the counter to pay. The manager was working the register and I thought that this would be my chance to address the issue. The manager asked how I was doing today, gave me my total and rang me out. I was stunned. I have never had a manager at ANY establishment fail to specifically ask me how my experience at their business was. I rang out and left. This Steak n Shake is less than a mile from my home. I will not patronize it again, and I will actively encourage others to do the same. This is the third time in three visits that I have received poor service or an order that was produced incorrectly.

4 star overnight drive-​thru at a 3 star diner.
1 – 6 AM are my visit times. Tonight was about 2:30 AM & was a «normal» drive-​thru visit.
2 – 4 AM & PM ½ priced shakes are sooo good. The drive-​thru guy was actually nice for dealing with late night people and had now arguements about getting me a water. The burgers are the addictive griddled diner style that are not health, but tasty. I really like steak fries so the shoe string fries are not my style.
4 star late night experience, but I have to give 3 stars for the overall menu (salads suck & they ruined the slinger).

Very friendly staff. Service was a little slow. The burger looked unappetizing at first, but it tasted very good. The fries are too thin. The shake was alright. It wasn’t very thick and the flavor wasn’t very good — at least chocolate. Good variety of flavors though. Malts would be a great option.

I’m a Steak n Shake in whatever city I go to. But this one, I have to make a special review for.
We arrived here after 9pm and usually when I pull into a place like this, I assume everyone is tired and is working only because this is the only shift available. But I was dead wrong, we walked in and the staff was very friendly. We were seated in a both and we didn’t have to wait long to place our order.
I love the side by side shakes… and also one to go!

This Steak and Shake can be kinda sketch at 1am. LOL. I went here with my friend because we were starved, it was late, and this place is like 5 mins from her house. Well, we went here and there were only about 3 – 4 employees running the entire place. They weren’t slammed but people kept coming in. There was a waitress with short hair who wasn’t really doing anything to help customers and there was a tall black guy who was basically doing everything. It didn’t take long to get our food even though he was running around like crazy and was obviously stressed out while the other woman was taking her sweet time doing everything, lol. So I left him a fatty tip for all of his efforts. Food was good but it’s fast food so what can you expect? A-​OK at 1am.

I like Steak n Shake, and this location is getting one star for a very important reason — THEY DO NOT GIVE BACK YOUR CREDIT CARD IF YOU PAY BY THIS METHOD.
Why did I write this last sentence in caps? Because this has happened three times to myself and my husband. Each time we had to hunt down the server, or if it was at the drive-​thru, knock on the window to get the card back. We thought they were isolated incidents, but after I had it happen twice and my husband once, I can only say if you choose to visit this location, PAY WITH CASH!

I had heard a lot about Steak & Shake prior to my arrival in the St. Louis area, so I was eager to try it out.
The food was fairly high quality, for fast food. We split an original steakburger, a chipotle shooter (slider) and a Chicago style steak dog. As I stated, the food was great and the side by side shakes (sorry no pic) were delicious.
One gripe is that there are no malts offered. It doesn’t seem that it would be that difficult to add a scoop of malt powder to a shake for all the malt lovers out there.
My only other gripe is that the service was a little slow, and we went there two days in a row and experienced the same thing.
However, this is a fast food joint and overall it was a pleasant experience.

The workers (drive thru) are very friendly and always offer an apology if they are not timely in processing your order. I order their Crispy Chicken salad with ranch dressing… love it!

As a girl from the West Coast, we don’t have Steak ‘n Shake! I was stoked to go inside and try it out, ’cause I luv diners. The food was well made in all of its deep-​fried goodness and was super cheap compared to Los Angeles. And aaaahhh ohh my god the «Outrageous Parfait» (for a mere $ 2.39) is really outrageous! Our waitress was friendly and wrote nice little notes and smiles on our bill. Oh, I wish we had Steak ‘n Shake in California!

I think the staff is largely made up of kids from the neighboring subdivisions (are you old enough to use the grill?) but the food well prepared and served quickly.
