Breton Sound pretty much has everything you need for a fishing trip, short of beer and snacks. Live bait, launch, ice, tackle, etc. The staff is friendly and will even help you find whatever fishing holes have been generous lately. It’s a bit of a drive, but that just puts you closer to the marsh and good fishing spots.

Breton Sound Marina in Hopedale(is there really an «in» Hopedale?) is a full-service stop for fishermen and duck hunters needing ice, food, fuel, boat launch, live or dead bait, vehicle storage… pretty much everything you’d imagine would be offered by a marina located at the end of the Earth. Just kidding. If you drive, the end of the Earth is another two and a half hours south of Hopedale, but you can get there quicker if you launch from Breton Sound Marina. The Marina is set alongside Bayou La Loutre, an earlier course of the Mississippi River. The Bayou still flows into the Mississippi River Gulf Outlet(MRGO), providing easy access for boaters headed into Lake Borgne, the Biloxi State Wildlife Management Area, Eloi or Black Bays, or of course, Breton Sound. A final note of caution: don’t try to launch on Opening Day of duck season. My buddy Keith and I fished out of a private camp near the Marina last November, without having checked the calendar, and found the pre-dawn road to Hopedale choked with boat-towing pickups, each full of heavily armed men who’d been awake for hours, and who were anxious to shoot stuff. This is pretty much the only game in this area if you wanna go fishing in the Hopedale area. Unless you have family down here to use a camp or the launch. Its wayyyy down south, through the parish, past Mereaux, into the part of the world where mosquitos and knats rule the humans with an iron fist. The marina has ice, food, lures, news paper, beer and misc ltems that you come to expect from a marine. Not a fancy one like in Venice or Grand Isle. More like Lafitte. If you are a oilfield /marine construction guy like myself, you come down here for the boat slip a few yards further down the road, Breton Sound Dock. There is crew boats running people out to the rigs and barges in the immediate area. There is a small crane and cherry picker that can be used for the heavy stuff.
