El Charro

My boy paully g turned me on to this spot and I simply love it. Best fajitas in town. They have kids eat free on Sunday but I never get to take advantage of that because my kids hate Mexican food. Anyone have a hungry kid to loan out on Sunday’s?
Staff is pretty cool manager is even nicer. Chips and salsa are a hit they usually give the mild (kick it up a notch and ask for the spicy) it’s much better. Tamales are also really good.

I visited the St Clair Shores location yesterday on my way home from work to pick up dinner for my husband at 5:00pm. I placed his order but I also wanted to order additional taco shell without any thing in it and I was told it would cost $ 3.99. I asked her if she was serious and she said yes that’s the price of a taco but is aid it’s just the shell. When I asked to speak to the manager she told me she was the manager. Customer service was horrible I mean who is going to pay $ 3.99 for a taco shell. I have never gone to any food establishment that wouldn’t make sure the guest isn’t satisfied. Needless to say I cancelled the order and took my business elsewhere and won’t be back

I love the puffy tacos. I haven’t been inside to eat, always a carry out. However, I haven’t been disappointed. I feel the food is the best Mexican food on the Eastside. A good alternative to going to Mexican Village.

Counter service with all of the standard Mexican things. The use higher quality ingredients which matches their slightly higher prices. Overall the food is what I would describe as 1950’s Midwestern Mexican which isn’t spicy. The salsa you get is a slightly spicy purée. If that is the style you are looking for (and which is common in the area) then they are very good. Personally that isn’t my preferred style, but if it is yours this place is tops.

Pricey food but love that you can drive though. Makes it worth it!!! Love their Guac!

The food here is absolutely wonderful. We have been going through the drive thru at the Harper store for many years now and we have Never had one issue over anything at anytime (*.*) The tacos are Superb, nothing like them around here any where. This is One Of The BEST places to eat and there is Never a Worry (*.*) Thank You El Charro’s!

I went to the drive thru & got the deluxe nachos $ 7.50…what a JOKE. I was actually shocked. Apparently «deluxe» means a tiny deep fried tortilla topped with a ¼ cup of ground beef & beans, greasy cheese and a few bits of tomato and pepper. Oh, and a tiny bag with 6 tortilla chips and a little container of watery salsa. Any other drive thru a person can get a meal and a drink for $ 7.50. There is nothing deluxe here… should be nachos pathetic! Never eating here again.

Great food, not the cheapest Mexican food but you can’t beat drive through authentic food! You’ll wait a few minutes but it’s totally worth it!
Eating in is always a pleasure, has a patio as well for the warmer weather.

One of my favorite places to eat. Go there all the time. Nothing like it. There tacos are one of a kind. The white rice is probably my favorite thing they have. You cant go wrong. The guacamole is made fresh every day and it is amazing.

First time trying this place… they forgot my dressing for my taco salad and the salad itself was bad. It consisted of lettuce… soggy shredded chicken, green olives?, and a tiny amount of cheese. No sour cream. no guac… no rice. no nothing.and for 8 dollars? I’m pretty sure they left out the tomatoes and onions. It was just terrible. I don’t think I’ll ever return. It was that bad. Taco bell does a better job, and that is saying a lot.

Great authentic mexican food close to home. We enjoy visiting the Fraser location as well, but frequent this location more due to location. It’s also great to have an easier choice of dine-​in, carryout, or drive-​thru carryout. I also like that the combo options come with or without a drink.
My only suggestion would be to ask customers if they want the chips and salsa with their meal. I sometimes forget to decline it if we don’t think we’ll eat them and don’t want them to go to waste.

I normally love this location but I ordered food and none of the cheese was melted but my nachos were burn. I’m extremely disappointed

Eating in has always been a good experience for me, but I went through the drive through last night, I had the opposite happen… My fajitas were sloppy and gross. I don’t know if ill go back…

I went here a few more times with This past Sunday being my last. The food was salty and sloppy with raw vegetables added in the end it’s like they don’t want certain people to come back to their restaurant. I won’t be going back EVER!

I go here all the time with my family. I love their botanas. I might have spelt that wrong. This El Charro is a little smaller than the one in Fraser. They don’t really wait on you like a real restaurant, but that’s okay. I love how they support unnatural hair colors in the work place, that’s very important. I’d rate ten stars if I could.

For so many years I craved El Charro’s, namely their Unique Soft Shell Taco, which was deep fried goodness. Something happened though, between the increase in prices and a more and more often lukewarm meal, not sure when. About a year ago I realized that they microwaved everything. I got over that, but the craving was gone. I still went periodically and for what it was, «Mexican» cuisine on the East Side, it was still the champion of a molehill.
But then one day while waiting at the drive thru window I peeked into their kitchen and realized that it wasn’t my beans and rice they were pulling out of the microwave, but the entire STYROFOAM container with my beans and rice inside. I don’t know, maybe it was all the studies about the carcinogenic effects of styrofoam, or those about avoiding consumption of food/​beverage in styrofoam or plastic containers when their surface temperature has increased, but the notion of microwaving styrofoam and then selling the food at ever-​escalating costs just seems arrogant and reckless.
Profoundly disappointed after many years as a devotee of this place.

Love this place! My friends and I meet here about once a month. This ElCharro is a bit different than the other ElCharros in that you order at the counter and they deliver the food to you. You serve yourself pop or iced tea. If you need more salsa, you just have to return to the counter. I like that I don’t have to flag a server down for refills. Love their tacos, enchilada, super wet burrito, cheese fondue, and botana. This restaurant has about 7 booths, one larger booth, and a couple high top tables to sit at. They do have outdoor seating, too. They also have a drive thru which is awesome for take out! Workers are also super nice and when they deliver food they always ask if we need anything else.

Did an afternoon meal here again. I ordered the Burrito and Enchilada combination, which includes a complimentary drink. This is some of the best American style Mexican food in the area!
OK, so they also offer a military discount at 20% at all locations. Ask for the discount before ordering. Thanx El Charro!
Don’t forget, children 10 and under eat free on Sundays at all El Charro locations. Purchase a lunch special or regular entrée for each free children’s meal.
