How have I not written a review for this place yet?! Seriously, thought I did. I remember writing it out… or was it just a dream? DO I DREAMABOUTWRITINGREVIEWS? Ohh, goodness… Well, I guess I’ll write it again… not in a dream…(but really, I thought I wrote it!) I’m not quite sure how my husband and I found this place, but we stopped by to check it out on one of our drives back to Chicago. It wasn’t much of a detour off our route and the weather was just perfect for a romp in Jesus’ garden. Ok, ok, so it wasn’t a romp, but more like a slow walk through a winding garden where you reflect upon Jesus’ walk to the cross. from the Last Supper to the crucifixion to the ascension. There were about a dozen statues along the path that depicted various aspects of his journey, along with little speaker buttons you could push to listen to that part of the story. Whether or not you’re a Christian, it’s a very fascinating walk. If you’re a Christian, well, you’ll probably be really impacted by the display. It’s beautiful. I was moved by it. The gift shop is also the largest gift shop I’ve ever seen with a huge selection of jewelry and décor and clothes and other such Christian trinkets. Admission is free(donations accepted). There is also a nice little patio to picnic outside if you plan to make a day out of it. Do visit if you’ve got a chance.

All I can say is wow! This is a truly amazing shrine! They have each of the Stations of the Cross set up in metal statues along with other scenes like The Last Supper and The Ascension. The area is very nice and the path you walk along is really well done. It is a really great experience to come here and take the walk. The best part is that it is completely free. The gift shop and visitor center is really nice as well. They have a great outdoor seating area for you to relax in after your walk.

I was brought here with my mom, sister and uncle, we attended mass then went on to the shrine, i wasn’t expecting it to be the stations of the cross in sculpture form, it’s a really cool ½ mile long journey. I would’ve been more enjoyable if it weren’t freezing outside. Their gift shop is huge and there are a lot of different things you can buy!

Very peaceful place and with television’s Bill Curtis doing the narration along each station of the cross, what’s not to love! :-)

No expense spared in this tremendous effort. Widely traveled, I recommend taking the drive out to St. John, IN. Anyone who appreciates the artistry of sculpting, landscape and set design will be blown away. Worth it just for that. If you’re not religious, go anyway, it’s a unique outdoor museum great for quiet reflective time. I especially liked the soundtrack on the paths speaker system. Curiously, the mood seems a Zen or New age to me. People opinionated of this attraction, think it’s Disneyland. Funny, but I think not. At each sculpture station is an interactive commentary narrative from Bill Kurtis. All you do is press the button and you’ll hear Bill narrate Jesus’ story. Anybody who watched«American Justice» on A&E knows his distinctive voice, which might be distracting because you think you are listening to a contemporary crime story. But I like it. You get used to it. There is a Café and gift shop, so you can make a pleasant afternoon of this. If you are religious, this is kind of a big deal, don’t wait.

The Shrine of Christ’s Passion is a half-mile path that takes visitors through the various stations associated with the last week of Christ’s life. Each station has various statues as well as an audio narrative that visitors can listen to. It’s a beautiful walk and a great place for silent reflection. The Shrine of Christ’s Passion is free but donations are accepted in the visitor’s center/gift shop.
