2nd Wind Exercise

This place was a lot smaller than I anticipated. They had more cardio equipment than anything; it all looked new or very nicely refurbished. There was only one person working when I stopped by and he was helping another customer but was cognizant of my presence and told me several times he’d be with me as soon as possible. I didn’t go into the store looking for anything specific but if I wanted to purchase dumbbells or plates I’d go back to see what used items they had before I spent money on new items. If I could give them 3 ½ stars I would.

We purchased a rebuilt step mill 7000 pt from them about 4 months ago. It arrived when they promised it would, was competently delivered, and has worked 5 – 6 times/​week ever since. Overall, I was very satisfied with the transaction.

We recently bought a home gym from this store. it was a 2 piece combo Hoist set. The sales person was very helpful and was very knowledgeable, we really didn’t know what we wanted so we had a few questions. The helpful salesman also ended up calling us and letting us know that a demo machine was available and would save us some money if we didn’t mind that it was used as a display at a fitness show. We had the home gym delivered and the delivery company was professional and did a great job.
The first time that we used the gym we realized that we really didn’t need the leg press part of the gym and thought that maybe another machine would be a better fit.
We went back to the store and asked if we could return the leg press and put it towards a credit for something else. That was denied. they don’t take back the leg press by themselves (even thou they sold them as 2 pieces) they would only take back the second piece by itself. And because its a demo they would have to charge us another 250 dollars to have the delivery company come take the entire demo gym and bring us a new one.
We spent thousands of dollars in this store and had planed to even spend more on some weights and a cardio machine… But we will be taking our business somewhere else that will work with us more on making sure what we buy is suitable for us and if its not will help to make sure we can make changes.

Very mixed feelings about this place.
First of all, I feel their name and tagline are slightly misleading. I anticipated this being a store full of used exercise equipment. In reality, the majority of what they sell is new equipment (Lifespan brand). The store had very few used pieces.
The gentleman I originally worked with was nice and helpful. He let me try the piece I was interested in and went out of his way to help set it up for me. Unfortunately, he didn’t seem super interested in truly helping me. He drove way too hard for the sale. He didn’t ask me any questions or anything. He just kept asking for the sale, over and over again. I have a much higher tolerance for the hard sell than most people. In fact, I love a hard sell. He actually maxed me out, though, which is nearly impossible. He just kept repeating, «So can I order this for you?» over and over again (at least five times). I’d take the hard sell any day over being ignored or someone who doesn’t give a shit if I buy something, but it was overkill. I’d have preferred to dance a little more. I’d have preferred him to ask me some questions about my needs. I probably am not their typical customer, and I definitely didn’t seem convinced of what I wanted, so a discussion and some questions were probably in order. I was convinced enough that I actually would have ordered it on the spot, and was prepared to do so (though not set on it by any means), but his high pressure did make me take a step back and hold off.
He spoke really quickly and kept saying random things. He dropped the price quickly (I wasn’t even haggling) a hundred dollars. He then said if I took the floor model they would deliver and set up for free (normally $ 100). When I asked again, he said no, it wouldn’t be free. I was confused. He was going really quickly and I felt like he was trying to get me out of the door as fast as possible, and do anything to make the sale. The fact that he so quickly dropped the price a hundred dollars made me wary.
I went home and found the same item on Amazon (whom I really trust) and with the same warranty for the same price he had offered me (with the hundred dollar discount). Amazon would have delivered it, though not set it up, for free. Same warranty, and guaranteed satisfaction if they had damaged it in delivery. After much research and debate, I decided I didn’t want to wait for shipping and wanted the item right away. I came back to the store. My sales guy wasn’t there, but another salesperson helped me. She was really amazing. She asked me a lot of questions and seemed to care. She didn’t talk down to me or judge me (I felt). She was very genuine and told me that though they wanted my business, it was important that I was sure about the purchase and they wanted me to be committed and satisfied when I made my decision to purchase. I believe her. She was an excellent and honest salesperson, and gave me a lot of information that I wasn’t even able to find online. She took a LOT of time with me, even knowing that the other guy was going to get the commission from the sale.
My combined experience here with both salespeople was positive, and once they came down on the price I feel it was totally reasonable. I would definitely shop here, and recommend it to my friends, but I suggest you do your homework, and be prepared for a hard sell. They lure you in on the premise that they have used (aka cheap) equipment, and then when they don’t have what you want, try to push you into new. The chances that they will have what you want used is slim. The bonus is that it is definitely a better situation than buying used off of Craigslist. You have some security with their warranty. She also told me I could even return the new equipment within a few days if I wasn’t fully satisfied.
