Have you ever left home, going the opposite direction of your favorite gas station and realize you are down to two bars on your gas gage. Two bars is the danger zone and time to fill up. You’re pressed for time and cannot turn around to go get gas at your normal station. As you ponder your dilemma, you see a 7 – 11 ahead and it’s one that has a gas station. My ass has just been saved. For connivence it is a pay at the pump, so I am not tempted by that big Slurpee machine inside. I slide my card into the slot, answered all the questions and filled my CRV with gas. To my surprise it was the same price on credit, as I would have paid for paying with cash at my regular spot. The lot where the gas pumps are located was litter free and the computer prompts were courteous. I was in and out with self service and that is the way I like it at 7 – 11.

Yes. This is a review of 7 – 11, because gosh darn it– their hotdogs are like crack. I love my hotdogs, and this particular 7 – 11 was my favorite, but when I moved to another neighborhood and their fancy shmancy hotdog shop opened up, I was pulled away from my 7 – 11 hotdogs. At first it was odd spending $ 6 on a hotdog but I got used to it and had forgotten all about my 7 – 11 hotdog experiences. Yesterday, a friend of mine who still lives in the neighborhood took me to Schlafly Bottleworks for a couple growlers and we were debating about snacks when we both thought: HOTDOGS! We headed to 7 – 11 and got our hotdogs. Why have I been spending so much money on overpriced hoity-toity hotdogs??? These were the tastiest, warmest, yummiest hotdogs ever. Just a simple dog with mustard and relish and one of the best lunches I’ve had in a while. I am not sure if it’s because there is a lot of workers in this area but the hotdogs here are ALWAYS fresh! It’s like magic! I remember drunken 2am hotdog crawls, hungover 7am hotdog breakfasts, pre-drinks 6pm hotdog appetizers– and the dogs were always great here. This 7 – 11 is just awesome, and now that I fully remember the awesomness that is their hotdogs– It may be worth the extra drive just to have one!

No one does a Slurpee like 7 – 11. I go to this convenience store/gas station when I’m in Maplewood. It’s right off of I-44, and the gas prices are usually pretty good. It was hot the last time I stopped by, but it also was National Slurpee Day. They were really sweet about it… the guy was like, «Stay as long as you want; try all the flavors». HAHA. Most of the flavors were blueberry variations… I grabbed a Coke Slurpee which totally hit the spot. Some of the flavors are sugar-free now. Either way, they are awesome on a hot day!

I’ve been going to this location for six years or so. When I’m in St. Louis(4 or 5 times a year) I do work at BNSF which is right up the street. We always stop in here for snacks, drinks and gas. Some of the same people have been here for as long as I’ve been coming in. Most are quite friendly and polite. Obviously, I like the place for a quick stop in for supplies since I keep coming back. If you’re in the neighborhood, stop in and say hello.
