This is the best Bosnian food I’ve eaten this side of the Atlantic! The main dining room is large and comfortable. The service is culturally Bosnian — all business, without all the sugary pleasantries that some might expect. The food was fabulous! I’d love to taste all of it but you can’t go wrong with the čevapi or pite. Our group sampled all the desserts and were not disappointed. My favorites: the kadajf and tulumbe. What a Bosnian treasure! Can’t wait to come back!

Went here for the first time about a year and a half ago, and was very pleased! The perfect place to go and experience fresh European food.

My main objective in visiting Berix was to drink the Turkish coffee. Berix is featured in the current exhibit at the Missouri History Museum about«Coffee». I was not disappointed, it was delicious. The coffee was served on a plate with a cup and covered container of sugar cubes. I put a cube in the cup and poured coffee from the small pot into the cup. The taste was smooth and wonderful. I can see why the Museum mentioned Berix in their exhibit. I ordered a «Pie», specifically the Zeljanica, which was a spinach and cheese spanakopita-like pastry. It was the size of a dinner plate. The pastry was hot and airy, crispy. The filling was perfect. This restaurant is set up with ordering and paying at the counter and the food is brought to you. The place was empty at 12 noon on the day I was there but there were lots of people coming in for take-out orders. They need to put 2 people on the counter to serve customers as the lady who was there was very busy and the orders took a while to prepare. I will definitely go back, it is a good place to meet for a nice quiet conversation.

This place has legitimate food which is served quickly and with consistent quality. The bathrooms are always clean, the staff is friendly and the dining room has a nice atmosphere. I recommend the doner kebab sandwich and the cabbage rolls or spinach pie

My family and I have been going to Berix since the first original one opened on Gravois Rd. We support local, Bosnian businesses. As far as this Lemay location, I can’t remember when the food tasted just«decent.» In the last year, it has been disappointing going there. Food and customer service is horrible. Today, around 5:30pm, they ran out of «burek». The cook was told to put a «pita» into the oven and we were told to wait. Just 15 minutes later the burek was already brought out. It was NOTBAKED all the way through. We couldn’t even eat it. We approached the cashier to pay our bill and leave. We told her about the food so she can be made aware, just trying to let them know so that they do not serve the same to the next customer. She simply stated«it’s not in our control what the cook does, we don’t cook the food.» You can tell that the workers are underpaid and understaffed. We left hungry and will not be back. I can make my own burek at home that is actually edible :)

NOTE: This is not an American restaurant. If you’re not speaking their language you may think you’re receiving bad service. It’s not them, it’s you. Reset your expectations to what it is like to travel around Eastern Europe and you’ll be much happier if you decide to visit this place. If you don’t decide to visit them — they don’t care. They are Eastern Europeans, their customers are Eastern Europeans and they are busy enough without trying to speak our language or conform to our our expectations of service. On the other hand, if you can deal with the indifferent service and confusing operation of the place then you are in for a true old-world treat. I ordered the Doner Kebab although the Burek looked great too. Still, as soon as I saw the rotating spit of meat I knew that was going to be my lunch. They shaved it really thinly and piled it pretty generously on the Bosnian bread. The meat had a great flavor that was similar to Greek gyros but not as heavily spiced. Very juicy and tender! The sandwich was served cut into quarters and had a pile of onions, tomatoes and lettuce on top of the meat with a tzatzki-esque sauce on top. The bread looked like it would hold up nicely to one trying to pick up the thing and eat it as a sandwich. I didn’t want to wear it so I went with a fork instead. I was pretty hungry yet only made it through ¾ of the meat and ¼ of the bread. If you order this, eat the whole thing and leave hungry then you should probably see your doctor… there’s something very wrong with you.

The food was outstanding. Our table had several dishes, all great, but the Doner Kabob and Cevapi were especially terrific. Based on other reviews, we expected issues with the service, but we had none at all. Our waitress was friendly and helpful and our food arrived quickly, and we were there on a busy Saturday lunch. We will definitely be back!

As far as «Authentic» goes it’s not the best… Still, very good food. Only thing I will suggest to my non-Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian friends is that you should order 15−20min ahead of time and get it to go. I hardly come here, once a year if that. Mainly because the customer service never seems to improve. So pick it up, and enjoy the food at home.

Food is good but the customer service is horrible. Sometimes it takes them a least 5 min to take your order even though you are right there in front of her. She keeps answering the phone and going back and forth to the kitchen definitely need more help at the front counter. They need to learn at least the basics of customer service. I am guessing that they know their food is decent so they know people will keep coming back no matter how terrible the customer service is.

The food here is phenomenal. The Donar Kebeb was as close to what I used to get in Germany as I have found. The décor is very nice and the outside patio is a good addition. I subtracted a star because of the service. It’s slow. They weren’t rude, they just took a while to serve us. Consider it real European dining where it’s intended to be a social experience. Come with a group that you like to hang out with and socialize. Oh, and water was served in a red solo cup, that was weird.

The best food I can find in south county. It’s truly delicious. Service isn’t always super fast during busy hours but the staff is kind and the dining area is so clean and comfy I don’t mind the wait. If I’ve ever needed food quickly I just order take out ahead and its been ready for me. I think some people are confused by the service if but if you just speak up and are patient you will find the staff is really helpful. I once accidentally came in right at close and the owner himself refused to let me leave without being fed first. Great food, great service, clean restaurant, and once again… really really delicious food

First time here, and the food was delicious! My mother and I both had the tilapia seafood platter. The side of potatoes mixed with veggies was awesome! My 9 yr old had the burger with fries. I would highly recommend!

The staff is racist against non-Bosnian people. You will wait, ANDWAIT, ANDWAIT, and they will not even GLANCE at you. I gave up and left. –_– The food is truly incredible however. So if you have any Bosnian/Croatian friends send them in and they’ll be in and out in 5 mins!

This place is by far delicious. Service is great too! I recommend the Pljeskavica with potatoes. It tastes incredible! The restaurant also features great décor and music! It’s also very nicely priced! Every time I’m back in St Louis, I will be sure to stop by!

The stuffed pies are served at lunch. For faster service, order to go. With all due respect to the Bosnian restaurants in south city, Berix will top them all in south county. The food is always made to order. The preperation looks good, smells great, and the taste is wonderful. I’m a big fan of the cevapti(sp)and the desserts. This place misses a five star rating because of the service. Good things due come to those who wait and wait and wait. It takes the kitchen quite a while to turn out these great meals. If you arrive at the end of lunch, don’t wear your watch. The building looks like a ski lodge and the parking lot is ample. Great place with reasonable prices.

We just had dinner here the food was decent however the customer service was very poor. The restaurant is not staffed well with servers. The food is reasonably priced and got to the table quickly. I’m 50⁄50 on returning.

I have to drop one star from this place due to the insanely salty doner. My cousin & I came here for lunch yesterday. And I was slightly disappointed. We ordered the ground beef burek & a doner salad. The dressing was delish, but the doner(sliced meat) was incredibly salty. After eating several pieces of the doner, I was finished. It was like tasting the ocean. I don’t understand why it needed that much salt. Lunch rush wasn’t terribly bad. If you find yourself coming here at the lunch rush hour, just order at the cashier & find a place to sit down. They will bring it out to you. Otherwise, you’ll have to wait. Cheap as always, but the salt needs to be toned down. A lot!

Weird set-up to order Immediately after entering I am standing at the counter with others & I am not sure which way the line forms. I stayed for a long time watching the two women make other peoples food including carving meat from the vertical rotisserie. All was interesting & I was able to be patient, but still… The menu was literally in another language to me. I did not want to do a web search so I thought I would just order a «pick 2» and ask for the most popular. Then came the spoken language barrier. I ended up just ordering a sandwich with lamb. It was like a large gyro on fresh softer bread for $ 5.50 & I was happy. $ 2 for tea… I understood why there were so many«to go» orders. I wish they gave better explanations on the menu & had a more«American English» fluent speaking server. BUT– the value & flavor is here.

I ended up working a double shift instead of an afternoon shift. So, I decided to go ahead and go to Berix for lunch instead of dinner. I walked in and only one other couple were ahead of me. I waited, and waited, and waited, then waited while the counter girl answered the phone. I even contemplated walking out. Then, the lady said«Can I help You?» I asked what she would suggest to anyone who had never been there. she handed me a menu and asked me to look at it. i was just like oooooooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk!!! i ordered the cabbage rolls and a diet beverage. The Cabbage rolls themselves were awesomely good. The 2 scoops of mashed potatoes tasted good to me, but one scoop was cold while the other scoop was fine. The sauce was sooooooo goooood. I believe that the sauce had smoked paprika in it. They also gave me 4 pieces of white bread. The bread was fresh and soft and i ate all 4 piece even though i was getting full. I even thought about going back up and try a dessert and coffee, but the line was getting long and i did not want to just be handed a menu again. The restaurant itself is very nice. The outside seating area was also very nice looking. The service I believe would be better if maybe I spoke Bosnian, or they made it a sit down restaurant. I witnessed people walk in from the other door and walk right up and cut the line. The counter girl looked a bit overwhelmed at times. Maybe, they need a food server during the peak times so that the counter girl can focus on the customers coming in the door. The food was good enough to go again and give it another try.
