Big Shark

Would love to update as my experience with Big Shark was totally turned around with the service I received at their Delmar Loop location. After having an issue with the bike chain from the previous service, I took it to their other location. I explained what happened and they immediately took charge and looked at the bike. The general manager asked if they could keep the bike for a day to make everything right. I left the bike and returned the next day to find they repaired or replaced many of the items in question and charged me ZERO. They refused to accept any payment and the manager was so kind and sincere. They made my bike better and I’m thankful for the service. No doubt I’ll visit them again.

We rented two bikes for $ 40/​day each. Three hours in, and 4.5 miles away, we got a flat. The shop didn’t reopen until the next day at noon, so we had to walk the bikes back to our house and then back to the shop the next day. When we got there they were very smug about the flat. And proceeded to charge our card for $ 90 without telling us about the flat replacement fee. No offer of another bike to enjoy the last three hours of our rental period. No concessions of any kind. We were prepared to pay full price, but an extra fee? Really? So we got 3 hours out of a 24 hour rental. And then we were fined. Biggest waste of $ 90, and the hours of walking a dead bike through the city. I’m a business owner. Sometimes you make concessions to keep a customer. Instead they lost our business over $ 10. Good job Big Shark. Go buy yourself a fricken panini with that money and kiss my business goodbye.

Love this downtown location. Everything you need with helpful repair guys/​girls. Bought fenders and had them installed. Wasn’t sure what would fit my bike and they helped me choose ones that would fit. Was able to pick it back up within 2 hours.

Rented a bike for the weekend. These guys were super helpful. Didn’t have to even ask for a size fitting. Got lots of nice recommendations on routes and an invitation to the fast group ride (definitely a compliment, haha!). Raleigh bikes are the standard rentals, but they are clean and in good riding shape, and lots of options in sizes.

These guys were a great go-​to place when I was building up an older road bike. They had good suggestions on my build and I was impressed that they had a 1″ headset in stock.

Just got a new bike and went in to the shop to ask a few questions and get some air in my tires. Both Josh and Jason were very professional and friendly. They aired up my tires and even replaced a missing bolt for me all as a walk in without an appointment.

I had a flat tire. Brought it in, and they fixed it in 20 minutes, even told me what I did to cause the flat and how to prevent it in the future. Everything you’d expect from people who care about bikes and riders more than turning a profit. Love the location across from Left Bank Books.
The front doors are difficult to get a bike through.

I cannot even begin to explain how nice and helpful these guys are. Encountered three different guys during my bike purchase (look-​see, down payment, pick up). Each one was extremely nice, patient, helpful, friendly, informative, professional. The service was outstanding and I would recommend this shop to anyone.

Open from 7a-​7p during the week, this outpost is a nice resource for Downtown that provides sales, service and supplies for a variety of cycling needs. As an added bonus, it’s connected to the Downtown Bike Station for anyone thinking of commuting.
Like every other bike shop I’ve ever been in, this place smells wonderfully of fresh rubber, metal and lubricant. The main floor has racks with dozens upon dozens of different bikes in stock and there’s an open second level with even more selection. Accessories (CO2 inflation cartridges, lights, saddle bags, etc.) are mostly along the aisle between the door and the counter. Spare tubes and some specialty parts are behind the counter (just ask).
What impresses me most about this shop, and why I come back, are the staff mechs (it’s why we choose all of our service providers, right… that and Living Social). After working on my bike once, in each of the two subsequent visits I’ve made, the same guy’s been there and understood what I needed based on my bike, my occasional riding habits/​limited knowledge and our conversations. Recommendations have been reasonable and costs presented up front.
With a nice building, good location (both because of its adjacency to the Bike Station and because Locust isn’t quite as busy as some other streets), friendly guys and reasonable prices (on most things at least), I’ve no reason yet to take my business elsewhere.

Wonderful experience when visiting St.Louis. The staff loosehooked us up with great bikes and equipment, gave us great suggestions on where to ride all at a good price. Loved it.

being a bicycle commuter, learning of big shark opening a downtown location excited me as much as a kid in a candy store. to be able to drop off my bike in the morning to have some work done and pick it up for the ride home was a luxury i had never known. until now. i was having some serious shifting issues with my bike, so i gave urban shark a call to set up an appointment for a major overhaul. upon bringing my bike in, brian promptly put it up for a look. not only was he able to diagnose the problem within a matter of minutes, but he also saved me a TON of money by telling me i didn’t need the overhaul i thought. within a few days, i was back on my bike. after a couple of trips back for some tweaking, and i was good as new!
of course, during one of those visits, i decided to peruse the inventory of shiny new cannondales. and, of course, i found several that needed me to give them a test. after consulting with brian, josh and michael, we decided on a couple of different models. after 3 or 4 test rides, i decided i wanted to test ride the synapse, which wasn’t in stock in my size. they quickly called the loop store and within 2 days, i found myself sitting on the saddle of what turned out to be my new bike. the guys stayed late, putting on new tires and water bottle cages, making sure everything was just right before i took her home. they then scheduled an appointment for me to be fitted properly bright and early the next morning.
i arrived early the next day, and blake had me in and out in no time. not rushing, mind you. in fact, he was very thorough and explained everything he was doing. it was just that the rest of the crew helped me pick out such a perfect fitting bike that it required very few adjustments.
