I’ve dined in twice now, but have ordered carry-out countless times. This is my favorite sushi place in the city. I recommend the spring rolls which are available in pork or veggie(but not for carry-out as they aren’t as good after the car ride home). My other favorites are the Butterfly specialty roll, Philly and California. Other options like Chicken Teriyaki are available if sushi isn’t your thing. I recommend sitting upstairs for better ambiance. Outdoor seating is also available. Parking can be tricky especially if you go at peak business hours for South Grand.

I have eaten in and out at Café Mochi and it’s one of the best Sushi places around, especially for inventive rolls! I absolutely love the Volcano Roll! I have never had to wait long either for a in house or take out order. The patio is great in warm weather, and the décor is modern. I have not experienced any bad service here either. The only hard part about this place is the parking, and sometimes that is just the case in a city location. Overall I will keep going here because the food is realllly worth it!

Excellent food. Sushi is my all-time favorite, but it’s usually the same wherever you go. I was happy to find something different here. The volcano roll was a standout. It’s a delicious roll surrounding a mound of scallops. I’ll be dreaming of it in my sleep. My second favorite was the lobster supreme roll. The only thing I won’t order again is the lemon drop, which I found too sweet and creamy. Good lemon flavor, though, so if you like things sweet, go for it. The pickled ginger tasted fresh and homemade. The only reason I didn’t give this place five stars is, being seated in the back room, I felt like I was in a school cafeteria. The service was slow, and the bathroom needed attention. Nevertheless, I’ll be back for some excellent sushi. Maybe I’ll get takeout next time.

The wait is too long! If you just want to hang out, fine. If you are hungry and want to eat food, don’t expect the food would be served in reasonable time.

I love the sushi here. I think the reason is my sushi eating theory is different than others. I only order piece by piece, never rolls or other dishes. The thing is quite simple, whether you eat the good food or nice atmosphere? I will go with delicate food, by the way. My first experience, the sweet shrimp raw sushi impressed me. I missed the taste through my whole Christmas. This time I ordered all the roe sushi. The crab sushi and squid sushi so vivid and live in my mouth. This is very unusual to taste in the mid west of this country. I admire the chef, so I tips well. The egg sushi is too sweet and the balance of eel sushi is too dense, either too sweet or too salty. Not recommend eat these two first, you tongue will be numb. Overall, good sushi experience. I will drop by every now and then.

Good sushi for a decent price. They offer many different seating types from out side to sushi bar to upstairs where it is quieter. Weird music comes on later in the evening.

Some of the best sushi we have had in the Lou. We had the two special rolls — Volcano and Lobster — will probably never try anything else they were so good!

I’m cringing to give this place 3 stars. If you don’t care about service and/or atmosphere, this place is a solid 5⁄5. Everything I have tried, from appetizers to dinners to the sushi, is delectable. My husband is particularly impressed with the sake selection. Our second visit was on Friday. We don’t typically«do sushi,» because it ends up being a pretty expensive endeavor(and rightfully so). We split some rolls and nigiri, a plate of yaki-udon, an order of gyoza and shrimp tempura. On a less momentous occasion, I would simply return for their udon noodles – thick, chewy, slurpable. If anything, their spicy tuna roll was a little mushy, but beyond that there are no complaints food-wise. Here is where Café Mochi loses two stars. 1.) The atmosphere: Okay, full disclosure. We came here in the dead of winter, so everything was a bit cramped and there was no outdoor seating. We were placed on the second level, our two-person table in a tight corner. You could hear every conversation at every other table in the room, including the drunk teachers grousing about their«a-hole»(elementary school) students. 2.) The service: A group of college-aged folk at a nearby table finished their meal and paid and started to leave. As one of the girls walked past us, she was throwing on her puffy winter coat, brushed up against our table and sent our(mostly full) bottle of sake flying. It fell to the ground with an audible crash and sent bits of ceramic flying everywhere. Everyone in the room was shocked and we all kind of sat in silence as the scene played out. The girl and one of her friends went into the nearby server stations(which was really right around the corner from our table) to alert them what had happened. As one drunk teacher remarked how there were shards of ceramic sake bottle in her meal, we waited close to ten minutes for a busser to come pick up the broken bottle pieces and mop up the sake. Our server returned to our table maybe five minutes after that to ask how we were doing and my husband had to inform him what had happened. I believe he ended up comping us a replacement, but what confounds me is how nobody in the room next door(with servers standing in the doorway) came to take care of it when it created dead silence in our area for what seemed like minutes. A couple servers even walked past the mess, acknowledged it was there, and kept moving. 10 – 15 minutes to clean up a spill and broken ceramic bottle pieces in such a small area – is that even acceptable from an industry inspection perspective? To reiterate: I won’t entirely write-off Café Mochi from this experience, because yaki-udon and because there is patio seating in the warmer months – a little more white noise and no bulky winter coats to cause any potential liabilities.

Hands down, this is incredible sushi. I love Café Mochi. The sushi is so fresh and it’s delicious. They have a great variety of food to choose from. I absolutely love this place. There’s not one negative thing to say about the food, the service, atmosphere, etc. Very, very well done. I’ll keep coming here!

The service is terrible. We got here at 6:10 for happy hour that ends at 6:30. Not only were we seated and orders in before 6:30(which I was impressed) but the staff started out nice. We didn’t get our food until 7:39…and it was all of our rolls but one. We will never come back here. They also charged us full price, the waitress wouldn’t even make eye contact with us we had to approach her twice. They did end up changing our prices to happy hour price. There were people seated around us and after us that got their food first. Terrible service. The food was on point but not worth the wait or the service. I will say the nicest staff was the hostess and the guy who bussed tables. They need a raise.

So far this is the worst sushi experience I had in St. Louis. The food quality is mediocre and to top it all off with an expensive bill. Tried it since Unilocal reviews look decent but I guess Unilocal can’t be trusted. The sushi is better at my local chinese buffet.

Fresh and delicious sushi can sometimes be difficult to locate in smaller cities(especially those that aren’t close to a coast). Luckily this is not an insurmountable challenge, and Café Mochi proves you can get good sushi in St. Louis. The restaurant is in a cute space, and it looks like they have a nice outdoor area for when the weather is conducive. The nigiri was tasty and fresh, and the rolls were delicious and(very importantly) well constructed. The service was good, and prices are reasonable for the quality. Definitely check them out if you need sushi in the Lou!

I cannot get over the delicious sushi at Café Mochi! I’m a St. Louis native and a sushi fanatic, and I cannot believe it took me so long to try out this place. It was perfect for a date night, great atmosphere, and wonderful service. The sushi was FANTASTIC, we tried a variety of rolls and were pleased with each one. We will absolutely return.

Hands down the best sushi in St. Louis. It’s a must if you’re a sushi lover. Drinks are fabulous too and they have an awesome happy hour. I recommend the butterfly, caterpillar, and rainbow rolls — they are my absolute favorite. But I’ve never been disappointed getting anything else. Also, if you order appetizers, definitely get the Mochi Rangoons. AMAZING.

Polite service. My bagel roll was on point with taste, freshness and size. Mochi Salad was a good complement.

I met a friend here for happy hour a while back(this year though, i’m just very behind). It was amazing. the drinks were great(I got the geisha drink that i’m now in love with and a punchy one which is really good too). the rolls and sushi were great. and everything I got was half off! This is definitely on my list of favorite StL happy hours.

Best sushi place in the City. We pretty much go here exclusively. My fav roll is the Maui roll, but also love the Caterpillar and Rainbow roll.(I love pretty much every roll, let’s be honest.) They’re crab rangoons are delicious also, kind of like crab rangoon tacos. They also have a great happy hour if you haven’t checked it out yet.

I’ve been here a dozen or so times now and am pretty sure this place is best sushi joint in St. Louis. I’ve eaten at all but two of the RFT’s «best sushi in St Louis» plus 10 or so others around town and Mochi is killing them all. Equally a great place to grab a nice lunch alone, as well as a go-to for taking out a date on Friday night Very cool modern atmosphere. Easy parking via Grand, Humphrey or the metered parking next-door. I’ve had the same waitress the last few times and she has been friendly, fast and attentive. The volcano roll has been my favorite thing so far. The warm crab in the middle of alvocado-y roll-y goodness. The lobster roll would probably take 2nd place for me but honestly, I dont think there’s been anything here that I haven’t enjoyed. The Mochi rangoons are a very different take on the crab rangoon. Everyone I’ve taken here has commented on them and how delicious they are. The green tea is also fantastic!

Took a chance on this place because it didn’t really look like many people were inside. Boy, were we wrong! It is way bigger inside than it looks and is nicely spread out for different ambiances. They had a lot of menus to read and we felt a little overwhelmed. Maybe the regulars know which menu they want and just ignore the rest… Sarah and I tried several items and were pleased with all of our choices. The volcano roll was very good — tons of crab. The futo maki roll was fresh tasting, but it didn’t have a strong flavor to speak of. The goi cuon rolls were very fresh and light tasting and you got 2 large rolls. Overall, we were happy with our visit.

The décor was awesome for a chick, but for a guy eating in a pink/grey/purple restaurant it’s a bit much. They didn’t have any specials going on nor did they have many regular rolls to chose from. I got the plain old stuff-philly roll & a bagel roll. My friend got three other rolls-cali roll, shrimp tempura & vegetable roll. I also got the mochi rangoons, which were more like vegetable rangoons. I probably wouldn’t go back unless someone else is paying. Slow service. Still love AI sushi the most.

My guy decided to do takeout sushi one evening. I reviewed the rolls featured on urban spoon since I couldn’t find a website for the restaurant. Called in an order for a Fuji roll, hurricane roll, tuna roll, salmon & avocado roll, 2 orders of eel nigiri and 1 order of miso. Total was $ 58. He picked it up and during the short wait they offered him some complimentary hot sake. It was well packaged when I opened it up at home but they did forget the miso. In the end it was okay because we had plenty of food. The Fuji roll was amazing; salmon, tempura shrimp, crab, cream cheese, asparagus in a roll topped it with broiled scallops in a spicy mayo sauce finished with a drizzle of eel sauce and black tobiko. I don’t do spicy but I kept coming back for more! The Hurricane roll was a nice counterbalance flavor to the decadence of the Fuji; tempura scallops, shrimp, onions, carrots with cream cheese, avocado, smelt roe and eel sauce. The salmon and avocado roll was very fresh and tasty. The tuna roll was simple and a nice palate cleansing bite. The eel nigiri had a deep tasty flavor. It all worked together for an excellent meal!

This is probably my favorite restaurant in Saint Louis — at least the best sushi! When you combine half priced rolls and $ 2 beers from 4 – 6PM what’s not to love? The Crunchy Bagel Roll is revolutionary in the sushi arena — you’ll wake up in the middle of the night thinking about this masterpiece.

2 thumbs up for Café Mochi! I came here for the first time needing a later afternoon snack to prepare for an early dinner. We got seated right away upstairs. Mochi is a pretty adorable spot off of south grand and gives off a chic café ambiance. I split a tuna roll, shrimp tempura roll, and ordered some sake to hold me off until our 8pm reservation. This was the perfect amount of food and the sushi was great! I’m a huge sushi fan and am looking forward to come back for a big meal. Also, the service was bueno. Café Mochi is a solid choice.

If anyone ever asks my opinion on where to get Sushi in St. Louis I always say Café Mochi. I usually only go during happy hour, because you absolutely cannot beat that deal. My friend and I will go and order 7+ rolls with beer and our bill will be ridiculously low. On top of all that, it actually tastes delicious. When you go to Drunken Fish, Subzero, or any other CWE sushi bar, you’re paying for their ambiance and atmosphere and the food is not even great. The only thing Mochi can work on is service.
