Calvert’s Express Auto Service & Tire

I have a 2002 CRV Honda, I have had three or four moderately large auto issues fixed at this location. Each time I found The staff responsive, polite, and helpful. Most recently I had an issue that required rotors and brakes to be replaced. When I got my car back it was making a grinding noise is every time I applied the brakes. I contacted Doug at Calverts, who handled the repairs, and he was very willing to work to solve this issue. He ended up putting on new additional rotors and brake pads solving the problem at no cost to me. I never felt like I was being blown off or on my own to find another solution to the problem. My husband and I would definitely return to Calverts for auto needs.

TAKING YOUR CAR TO CALVERT’S COULD BE A COSTLY AND DANGEROUS MISTAKE.
I took my car to Calvert’s last March for an oil change. That ended up being a very big mistake. Surprise! Surprise! The mechanic who worked on my car said that it needed more than an oil change. Specifically, he recommended that I have the axle on the right side replaced. Trusting the mechanic’s judgement and not wanting that situation to metastasize, I took his advice and paid $ 310.28 for the repair. A couple of days after that repair, the axle disengaged in a busy intersection. Fortunately there was a closed tire shop right there, and I was able to coast into the driveway of it before a light change that could have made the situation a lot worse. If this had happened on the highway, I could have been killed. Even the girl who works at the front dest at Calvert’s said, «Wow! That’s scary!» –when my car was towed back to the shop to get fixed again. However, as I have learned, problems are never really fixed at Calvert’s –and, so, a few months after my second trip to Calvert’s, my car broke down again. As it turned out, the idiot who «fixed» my car didn’t refill the differential with fluid, which was leaked when my car fell apart in the busy intersection. With no lubrication, the differential was ultimately blown apart, resulting in a repair that cost me $ 1765.31! My car has low mileage, and the mechanic at the transmission shop who fixed it said that Calvert’s is likely responsible for the damaged differential. When I contacted Calvert’s regarding this news, I was ignored.

I won’t be back! I live in the neighborhood and believe it is a civil duty to first shop locally to support the community. I did that with an inspection for my car here at Calvert’s Express (oxymoron). I made the appt ahead of time and showed up at that time. I asked the Desk girl if it would take long to do because I lived a block away and could go home and get things done before my kids got home from school. She assured me, then re-​assured me when I asked if she was sure that it wouldn’t take long. Thirty-​five minutes later my car had not been touched but three other vehicles had left the bays and were finished being worked on. I again asked Renee if she was certain I would be done soon. She said «hasn’t your car been taken in yet»? I’m sitting there thinking does she not see my car right there in front of her in the HUGE glass window? The one she watched me pull up in, get out of and the one she took down the info on. I replied that they hadn’t. She went into the shop and came back to report that my car would be next (no time reported on that either) and that a safety /​emission inspection takes a minimum of an hour. WTH does she consider «Not taking too long»? She called me 40 min later (???) and said my car was done. Turns out they failed me for a crack in the windshield that I’ve had for two other successful inspections and is NOT in the line-​of-​sight. I paid without saying anything. I walked out and didn’t see my car in the parking lot. I came back and asked her where my car was and she said «Isn’t it right there out front?» Once again I bit my lip thinking why would I ask after having just been out there looking for my car? No, it’s not out there. Sorry. So I left knowing there was no way i could depend on her for anything else. I checked on the street side on Nottingham. There is was down the street just before the alley… totally unlocked! These people are incompetent and should be in charge of working on people’s vehicles. NEVER. GOING. BACK.

Don’t fall for the $ 59.99 brake special. They catch your eye with an offer for subpar brakes to up-​sell you to a more expensive service. I blame myself for not doing the research. I should have shopped around for better pricing.

I was told it would take two hours to have my hub bearing changed, so I dropped my car off at 10:45, leaving me plenty of time to get my car fixed and get ready for work.
It’s 1:40, I’m still waiting on my car. On top of that, I just heard one of the mechanics scream the f word at the top of his lungs. I don twant the guy working on n car to be screaming and miserable. I want someone who appreciates their job, has enough pride to prioritize customer perception. I’ve been going here for over a year, and I won’t be back. It’s a shame, because they do quality work.

Clean establish ment, very fast not waiting 6 hours for and oil change, and very friendly staff. I will definitely come again
