I was really impressed. We came in on Christmas for dinner and were quoted a 30 – 40 minute wait and got seated in 15 – 20. We received extremely fast service and the owner came to our table to check on things multiple times. The food not only looked great but tasted great. Would highly recommend.

Roach crawled out of our poo poo platter. Seriously. This is not a joke or competitor. My email is below. Family was appalled and disgusted. Chat with the owner gives me no confidence going forward. I took my family there regularly. They have a serious roach problem. We will not be back. Rob at

I love this place! Try the pork spare ribs, they do not disappoint. My favorite dishes are General Tso’s Chicken, pork fried rice, duck with spicy tangy sauce, or lamb with spicy tangy sauce. I’ve never had bad service here, and whether to go or dine in my food has always been timely. Now, I will say this, on holidays you may have to wait if they get really busy, but its completely understandable.

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible!!! Took 15 minutes to get the person on the phone to understand my carry-out order… Only 1 order of sweet and sour chicken, side of pot stickers. Requested fried rice as an upgrade, but did not receive it. Was charged $ 24.50, which was a total incorrect charge for such a small order. after my experience I didn’t want to dispute the charge!!! Also the food was bad when I got home! Dont waste your time here.

Hunan Star is my favorite Chinese restaurant for basic Americanized Chinese comfort food. It’s consistent and it does not disappoint. I have been eating here for over 20 years which is over half of my life. I ALWAYS start with the Hot N Sour soup. Their Hot N Sour soup is the best. It has the best balance between spice and vinegar and had plenty of stuff in it not just broth. My other favorites here include: Crab Rangoon, Mongolian Beef, Crispy Sesame Chicken, Moo Shu Pork, etc. They are not re-inventing the wheel here and aren’t offering anything that lots of other Chinese restaurants don’t have but it’s always consistent, delicious, and a step above most others.

Best Chinese made to order. Premium meats. They only serve the best. Prices are higher than average but so is the food so it’s worth every penny.

For some reason a few people in my family love this and we end up here occasionally. Each time it’s bland and just not very good. I think I had sesame chicken last time cause you really can’t mess that up. It’s one of my least favorite for Chinese food. I am always stumped because I know it gets good reviews and people like it, but I just can’t stand it.

Horrible!!! Absolutely discusting! I grew up down the road and used to eat here regularly, when it used to be good. But today we went in and they had NO hot tea(but they did have iced tea. mmm), their pot stickers where old and over steamed, the hot and sour soup was room temperature and very bland, they where out of the first three dishes we tried to order and wouldn’t do a lunch special at noon. So I had to reluctantly settle for sweet and sour shrimp… which was absolutely horrid! The shrimp had a very old fishy smell and taste. The servers also stood by the table with all the food on a black tray and asked that I take the food off the tray and put in on the table. mind you I’m with a group of 10… this was just the worst place for Chinese I’ve been to in awhile. Shame, cause they actually used to be good… will NOT be going back.

My GPS stopped working and was hot and frustrated when I found this restaurant and then they put me by the hot window. When I asked to move they were very accommodating. I was pleased to see they had lemon chicken as one of their lunch specials. So of course I ordered it. You get soup and an appetizer. I’m not a big fan of Chinese soups but their won ton soup was delicious. The egg roll was the best I’ve ever had. Unfortunately the lemon chicken was tough. But the server/owner was gracious and only charged me for Soda I had. He said they’d been thinking of taking it off the menu. So my search for good lemon chicken continues but I will definitely be back because I’m sure the rest of the food is superb.

Beat Chinese I’ve had in Stl. I personally recommend crabs rangoons, the want an soup, and the sesame chicken. Especially the crab rangoon though. It is a must. The owners and workers there are always so nice and helpful. You have to come here.

Found this place by mistake while driving down Manchester. My other favorite restaurants were closed for the afternoon so I gave it a shot. I ordered sesame chicken with broccoli($ 11.50). The presentation was excellent, the restaurant was sparkling clean, ingredients seemed fresh, furnishings were tasteful, and service was superb. Nothing was exceedingly salty or fatty; it came across as balanced with care and attention to taste and texture. I will be going back.

Good Chinese food. The owners are always there and polite. Great General Tso, as well as cried rice. Big menu with a nice variety. I haven’t tried everything on it, but enough that I can recommend this restaurant.

Hunan Star makes the world’s greatest piping hot, stuffed to the gills, filled with boiling cream cheese Crab Rangoon. It is full of calories with no redeeming nutritional value and is completely sublime. If you are looking for an excellent version of Chinese takeout, this is it. The best. This is not upscale Chinese, but for what it is, it’s best in class. And did I mention the Crab Rangoon?

I love Chinese food. .. LOVEIT, LOVEIT, LOVEIT! I’m always searching for a great Chinese restaurant to enjoy on a regular basis. After hearing for years how delicious Human Star Chinese Restaurant at 13239 Manchester Road in Des Peres is from relatives, I thought I would give it a try for lunch today. They have alot of great lunch specials — all were $ 6.95. There were at least 40 plus people inside the restaurant around 11:45AM when I visited for my lunch. I ordered the General Tso’s Chicken which came with hot and sour soup and two crab ragoons. I added an egg roll for an additional $ 1.50. My lunch had to be the best General Tso’s Chicken I think I have ever swallowed! Service was very pleasant, quick, and the food was great portion and directly from the kitchen. When I’m in Des Peres for lunch again soon, I will be stopping at the Hunan Star on Manchester Road. .. I’ll look for you there too!

I came here maybe on the worse night in the whole year. New Years Eve. My wife, her brother, his girlfriend, and I made up our group. We went at 5:30 so as to eat and then head home before the madness began. The Star was not ready for a ½ full restaurant much less a full one. Service was just agonizing. And I mean it. Busboys would only serve drinks, busgirl was clueless, waitress never showed up. And when she did any request was forgotten from the time we asked till she turned around. I came here little over a week ago and had the opposite service. But we were the only ones in the place. Both times I ordered fried rice. Just plain old fried rice. Nothing more or less. This is a concept that is just not understood. As I get questioned each time about fired rice. Damnit I want fried rice with egg. Nothing more. Each time I had to surrender and take what they gave me. Oh an the bill was wrong. $ 43 for two people ordering $ 12.00 meals just did not add up in my head. I looked over the bill and saw I was charged twice for a few things. Wife wanted me to debate and I paid it. Said if I could not get fried rice straight how was it possible to question the bill? So hey it was a fail. Food was very good. Good food will trump bad service. Very lucky they did not get the dreaded 2 stars from me. LOL!

Worst Chinese food I’ve ever had… this place is a quantity over quality establishment. I won’t be back, food was greasy and gross… I wouldn’t eat here if the food was free.

My wife and I wanted to try a different Chinese restaurant. We drove by this so many times but never stopped. That changed tonight. We headed over for dinner. The restaurant was clean and inviting. Big open dining area. About 1⁄3 of tables filled with families. I got the steamed vegetables and my wife got the Lo Mein. Service was quick. Our food looked and tasted good. The vegetables were steamed just right. We plan on going back to try appetizers and other dishes. This seems to be a good place to bring a larger group as well.

Went here with my family a month or 2 ago. We choose the family style dinner/family special for 3 out of 4 of our party. I ordered the crispy orange chicken, the sauce was a perfect blend of sweet with spices. My mom ordered green mussels, great choice! Savory and melt in your mouth good. The only downside was we were under the impression there would be unlimited rice, but we were only allowed 1 plate between 3 people, it was a little small of a serving between us. It was a nice dinner, and by the time we left, around 7, it was packed.
