Been here twice. Food is amazing. Shrimp fajitas were fantastic and beef chimichanga was excellent. Loved the margarita! My only complaint is the noise level. Very loud and with kids running around nearby it was like nails on a chalkboard but that’s probably just bad parenting.

Food was good and affordable. It was very crowded. Food seemed authentic.

I used to dine at Chimichangas very frequently, a few times a month, because they are very affordable and have delicious food. However, I very seldomly go there anymore because they have the most terrible service! They take your order, drop off the food, and then that’s the last time you ever see your waiter for the night until they drop off the bill. If anything is wrong with your food, you are stuck with it! No refills on drinks ever, and you better forget about getting any salsa or napkins. I’ve had terrible service at least the past 8 times in a row, so I can no longer patronize a business that completely neglects their loyal customers time after time.

The food and drinks are amazing. The staff was very busy and didn’t miss a beat with serving our 12 person table. I recommend the Monster Margaritas for the brave and thirsty.

Went for a friend’s gathering on Saturday night. Place was no overly crowded and some tables were still available. The server was initially pretty attentive on getting everyone’s drink and meal orders. The liquor and beer prices were very moderate. The food order took a bit to come out, but there was a lot of food and it was quite tasty(not to mention cheap). The server kind of disappeared after that and we had to hunt him down to collect the tab but it wasn’t too much of an inconvenience.

I have only tried thia restaurant once and the food was great and so was the Sangria! The shrimp chimichanga is a must try! The prices are reasonable and the service was about average.

I have NEVER written a bad review before and I must be missing something with my experience but this was hands down the worst experience at a St. Louis Mexican Restaurant ever. Staff was crazy rude and my meal, a simple fajita taco salad was not edible, the meat was so tough a knife couldn’t cut it. I could continue with complaints but the only thing that really matters is the 1) Customer Service/Staff and 2) Food quality and preparation… the absolute worst and I will never be back.

We’ve been going here for several months now and really like the food. The prices are also okay & we especially liked the Kids Eat Free on Sundays. However, over the past 2 months or so the service has declined significantly. .. waiting for our server to come over to take our orders, drinks not being refilled, having to flag down our server to get something. .. just not good at all. But we kept coming back thinking that those were isolated incidents. Unfortunately they were not and it has gone on a while. .. with various wait staff members. Yesterday we went and after having poor service yet again I decided to say something to the cashier. When I get up there I’m told that not both kids meals are free today b/c my wife ordered a special and not an entrée. We get the same thing every time we go and this has never been a problem before so obviously that was frustrating. Then, as I shared my frustration with poor service over the past couple months I was completely dismissed with no apologies or explanations. This is so sad b/c we love the food. .. being nice is so easy to fix yet they just haven’t figured that out. I don’t know if something changed in management or what but unfortunately we will be looking for a new mexican restaurant. And that sucks for both them and us as we are creatures of habit. Once we find a place we like, we’ll stick with it for years. Sad to say that I can’t recommend this place.

Still Great value. The margaritas are under $ 4! Sweeter than gourmet versions but none of the chemical aftertaste many other places’ have. The green chile verde is very tasty. The tamales pretty good. Festive. A bit tacky but overall a relaxed experience. Sitting outside is enjoyable.

I am deducting a star from this business because I suspect they’ve decreased the amount of tequila in their margaritas since the last time I visited. My friend and I ordered a pitcher, and after drinking the entire thing between the two of us, barely had a buzz. I’m not looking to get wasted drunk when I go out, but I expect a decent amount of tequila to be found in a $ 20 pitcher of margaritas. Stop being so chintzy! A bottle of 100% agave can be purchased for $ 15 … a bottle! So please the equivalent of at least a shot in each glass worth. I won’t be rushing back here for margs anytime soon, unless I hear that they’ve changed their miserly tequila ways.

I have been there twice now and it’s not bad but I also don’t understand what all the fuss is about. If you like the standard«Missouri Mexican,» you won’t be disappointed. The salsa is pretty amazing and the service is fast. The only thing is I have had to wait about 30 minutes both times I have been there. I don’t care about waiting to be seated(it was a Saturday night both times) but I can go to Amigo Joes or El Paisano closer to my house, get the same quality food, and not wait.

Food is the primary reason to come here, and its pretty good. Everything seems fresh and tasted good. Plenty of low cost combinations, theres something on this menu for everyone. Their salsa isnt as chunky as I personally like but its good nonetheless. As far as drinks go, they have a small selection of beers and liquor, maybe some wine, but primarily they sell margaritas. they taste good but seem a little light on alcohol. Service is good, very happy atmosphere as well. Theres a mural right when you walk in, look for the guy from the dos equis commercial in it :). Overall, Id say its worth a 20 minute wait or so.

Good food, however they make up their prices as they go. I’ve eaten there many times and always pay the same price anytime of day for a certain item. Now they say it cost $ 2 more than normal. Out of nowhere. He said it was because it was after 3 pm and it was 3:02pm. 2 minutes. Great customer service! Note sarcasm. Not eating here anymore.

This place is our«go to» restaurant: we always know we’ll have a good experience at Chimis. Great food, generous portions, reasonable prices, authentic decorations, great staff… truly no complaints. On any day of the week you will find the place buzzing with families, groups, couples… just such an eclectic mix of people. It truly is a «St Louis» experience. We like to experiment and try new places; but we never go too long without coming back to Chimis.

Nice atmosphere and good food. You may want to go for lunch instead of dinner. It gets VERY noisy in the evenings.

Went with my in-laws for dinner on Sat Dec 27th. Happy to have gotten a table when we did(around 5:45), because when we left around 7 pm, the place was packed and there were a lot of people waiting! This was a roller coaster of an experience — what I mean is that some items were a «4» and other items were a «2,» so that’s how I landed on a «3» overall. The Chile Rellenos and the Jalisco Special were a four. As was the ambiance(fun, colorful), service and value/prices. My Father in Law had two massive peppers stuffed with cheese and breaded. I had the Jalisco– I wish there was a 2nd tortilla on that plate(and it needed more guac and rice). Still — it was $ 6.85, so hard to complain! The Chile Verde and the #11 Combination were a two. The sauce on the Chile Verde was basically unedible — way too salty. The pork was pretty good, but pretty boring without the sauce. The #11 was really tasteless, dull and dry. As my family likes to say for dishes like that, «I wouldn’t get it again.» Their chips were good but the salsa was too mild in my opinion — it needed kick — and the cheese sauce we bought was too runny(but it was tasty).(If you are looking for fantastic chips with three great and different kinds of salsa, go to Pueblo Solis on Hampton). If it weren’t over 20 min away, I would say we would try it again. But, given the distance and the other options closer to home, I doubt that we will be back.

Do yourself a favor. Bring a friend, order a double of the Texas fajitas and each get a margarita. You’ll walk out happy with plenty of leftovers in hand. The spices have changed over the years, but still an STL must!

I had to update my review due to the stellar service on my last few visits. The food is standard Americanized Mexican, but it’s better than many of the chains in the area. I love the chiles poblanos. After discovering they would make it, my SO always gets a taco salad with chorizo. He claims it is the best taco salad he has ever had. We’ve made a habit of bringing groups of 6+ here for lunch, which can be a challenge at some places.

4-Stars for a causal Mexican restaurant(not to be confused with fine dining). Large menu, great service with both indoor and small outside patio dining. Food portions are good and everything is well prepared. Tried several items and enjoyed all of them. Prices are in-line with similar establishments and I would recommend this restaurant if you’re craving Mexican.

I took a couple friends here the other night who had never been here before. The pros: The chips and salsa were among the best I’ve ever had at a restaurant. The chips were light and not over-powering salty, which I like. The salsa seemed fresh with tons of cilantro, which I also enjoy. The food was quite tasty. Not the absolute best in the area but not the worst either. I had the beef tamale deluxe. It came with both guacamole and sour cream. What restaurant does that? Love it. The beef was good, be it a bit dry and the mesa was ok, but I would still order it again. Overall it wasn’t bad for the price. The cons: Parking is difficult. Street parking for most. The place is loud. We decided to eat inside because of the scorching heat, and the place wasn’t elbow to elbow crowded, but it was still loud. We could carry on a decent coversation, but the waiter had a hard time hearing us. Speaking of the waiter, he wasn’t very attentive. He let drinks go dry quite a few times and we sat at the table with empty plates for too long while we waited for our check. Overall: It’s not a bad place to get a cheap mexican fix. Expect the noise level and asking for refills. My friends enjoyed the atmosphere, food and prices. Will return.

Food… Coma… Oh my God… I’ve been on the hunt for good Mexican food lately and can’t seem to find too many places that take care of the craving. That all changed when I went to Chimichanga’s. After driving for what seemed like miles down Grand, it’s pretty hard to miss the brightly colored building and blinking lights. This place is just cool to look at! There’s a parking lot right behind it(and street parking is also an option), and the bright colors get even brighter inside. They had a weird goblin-looking guy set up next to the welcome sign… you know, like the ones they sell at Johnnie Brock’s? I thought that was really weird and creepy… the rest of the place was pretty great though. Neon colors everywhere, almost obnoxious but not quite. Tons of character going on. The margarita list here is huge, and by that I mean you can get margaritas the size of your freaking head. I decided to keep it under control and just get a 12oz which was more than enough for a Sunday evening. The margarita was pretty standard, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing — it was good! The chips and salsa stole the show right away, though. Best salsa I’ve had at a Mexican restaurant in a long time… possibly ever. The guac was pretty good too! My main reason for not ordering the«skinny» margarita was because I knew based on the entrée I was going to order, it wouldn’t make a difference if I saved a couple calories in my drink. Enter: the chile poblano. Two poblano peppers filled with cheese, fried in an egg batter, and topped with a creamy sauce. It’s as amazing as it sounds. And, bingo, I loved the rice and beans that came with it! Needless to say I almost needed to be rolled out of the place. Nice. Trust this place anytime you need an authentic Mexican meal. Bonus… it’s also pretty cheap!
