City Park Grill

Great neighborhood spot that perfectly blends the modern restaurant and bar experience. I was surprised by their spin on some of the classic American entrees. With interesting salad options and a strong appetizer menu (the wings are good), you’ll be happy with the food during your visit.
I had the salmon sandwich which surprisingly had a really nice sized salmon filet, perfectly cooked, with spinach leaves, tomatoes, and a tangy dill sauce on a ciabatta roll. My side of squash/​zucchini was well cooked and perfectly seasoned. A great entrée for the healthy eater.
With a strong offering of local draft beers (4 hands, UCBC, Civil Life) and a generous happy hour menu (M-​F 3−6pm and M-​Th 10pm-​close) this place is also up to the task of entertaining a large group on a Thursday, Friday and Saturday night. Take advantage of the TouchTunes, GoldenTee, or ask for their set of «Sexy Jenga», you’ll be entertained for hours.

After a less than ideal experience my second time here, I decided to try City Park Grill again. I met owner Rob, on pure accident and had a conversation with him about my previous experience. Rob was very kind and provided a superb customer service experience. Come to find out, Rob sent me a message the same day I posted a review about my previous experience, apologizing for it. It is always nice to have a local bar and grill so close to home. I am very excited to support this local business in the near future. Good customer service goes a long way and I am glad we ran into each other.

Great beer selection is an immediate way to my heart and will keep me coming back to a good grub spot, this place has that. Tons of local and good stuff from across the U.S. The varied menu had tons to choose from and makes you want to come back and try more. Salmon sammy with sweet potato fries were light but didn’t leave me hungry. Wife had a grilled Ceasar salad wedge and demolished it, she dug it. Also a good spot to catch a game. Plenty of tvs visible from all the seats in the house. Priceyish but not enough to deter us from heading back soon. Seriously though give this place a shot!

Great burger! Had a burger and fries and was not disappointed. First glance through the menu was a little confused. A $ 10 burger? With The Dam a block away? But it was good and the fries were great and plentiful.
My lunch date loved that he could watch football while we were there and I can see myself suggesting it for a girls night out.

Best spicy chicken sandwich in STL. Try the Lou Chick and fries, you will not be disappointed. When Ginghams in South County closed I had to find a new spot for a reliable awesome spicy chicken and fries.
Restaurant itself is nice, newer, clean, typically good service. But the real reason to go is for that delicious sandwich.

The service was ok. Waitress was quite awkward. Food was edible. The overall experience was just ok. Sorry but that’s all I got for this place!

I was very excited to try this place in my neighborhood. But, I went once and haven’t been back, as it was underwhelming.
The loud and bright atmosphere was off-​putting. It was SO loud even with barely anyone in the place. We had to yell to hear each other talk, and it was almost empty on a weekday night. The bartender girls were nice, but one of the guys seemed uninterested and was standoffish.
The food is overpriced for the neighborhood. I had the peach smash drink which was delicious and my boyfriend has a whiskey drink which was average. We didn’t eat because we didn’t see anything worth paying the price for when you can get cheaper food around.
Overall I am a little confused on the vibe is. Is it a trendy cocktail place, a sports bar, a family restaurant? I can’t tell. I do like the new mural on the wall though-​saw when I was driving by.
End conclusion: maybe I will go back when I can sit outside where it’s not so lound and get a happy hour priced drink and app — do they have happy hour though?

Numerous consistent fabulous cocktails and bites to eat. Get the Sweet Potato skins and add chicken. The Power Kale Salad is also excellent. MoFo Mule is a great cocktail

So this place gets 1 star because the service was decent and the Bloody Marys were good.
Other than that I have nothing positive to say about this place. We thought we’d check it out because the location suggested it would be good quality, but the food was bland at best and gross at worst.
I got the red bean and rice soup which essentially had no flavor. There was some mystery meat in it, which remains a mystery because it was so bland it was impossible to discern its type. I also got the veggie wrap on a spinach tortilla with a «feta spread». Disgusting. I couldn’t even eat it. The «feta spread» tasted like fritos.
My boyfriend and friend got some chicken sandwich thing that was basically submerged in overpowering wing sauce that they were scraping off. They both said the sandwich was borderline inedible.
On top of this all of our bills were very expensive. For a gross wrap I couldn’t eat, one Bloody Mary and small cup of nasty soup I paid $ 25. You can easily get more delicious food for the same price right next door. Or you can go down the street to the dam and pay less for phenomenal burgers.
Food is just bad. I’d never go back here. If you are driving by this place and think you might try it, don’t. Just keep driving and save your money.

City Park Grill just opened up. It’s super close to me next and located to some great spots so I was excited to give it a try. However, I think it might be a little lacking compared to it’s neighbor competition.
It fits your typical sports bar vibes but with they seem to have an identity crysis. They also have a a big trendy wooden bar, a chalkboard bar menu, and mason jar cocktails. I guess sports bars do that?
We got the nachos with beer and I tried my girlfriend’s cocktail. The cocktail didn’t taste like a drink at all despite being $ 10. The bottled buds are about which isn’t too bad I guess. The nachos were pretty mediocre. Nothing you couldn’t make yourself at ease.
I think they’re trying to tap into the trendy food/​beverage scene while also getting the sports bar crowd. I’d advise dropping the act and going full sports bar. As of right now, Three Monkeys across the street has better food, drink, and vibes.

City Park Grill was this month’s fabulous feast. My dining companion selected it.
It’s a new restaurant in a new building on a street with old buildings, but it doesn’t look out of place. The interior of the restaurant looked cool, but we ate on the patio instead. It isn’t especially pretty out there — surrounded by south city houses — but there are some trees around. The private lot is really small, so you’ll probably have to park on the street.
The beverage: I ordered a lemonade cocktail, but they were out of lemonade, and had to go with my second choice. I don’t recall what it was and their menu wasn’t online, but at happy hour it was priced right and it was tasty enough.
The food: Not your typical bar food. The potato skins were soft, crispy, and absolutely delicious. They were the highlight of the meal. Sweet and regular potatoes were available; we had regular. Vegetarians, request the bacon on the side.
I had a grilled cheese. Instead of the three-​cheese blend, I requested manchego cheese, which was mentioned with another menu item, and I was not charged extra for it. The sandwich was good, but not the best grilled cheese I’ve ever had. Next time I’ll go with the three-​cheeses as is offered on the menu. It came with fries that I hardly touched (too full, and they weren’t as delicious as the potato skins).
The menu is small, and I’d love to see it expanded, but I’ll probably just get the potato skins as an entrée next time. Okay, I’m done talking about the potato skins.
City Park Grill, I will return to try that lemonade cocktail. Keep up the good work

I love the location and atmosphere of City Park Grill. We visited on Friday around 6pm and we took the dog with us because they are allowed on the back patio. We had been told ahead of time to just enter the patio from the side gate. Our waitress immediately admonished us that we should have told the hostess that we were going to be on the patio. Our waitress kind of had an attitude about it and was unsmiling and unwelcoming. She did not offer water to our dog. I ordered a diet coke and it was flat and watered down so I didn’t drink it. I heard the waitress telling many other patrons that many of the beers on tap were out.
The menu was uninspiring. There was only one type of burger and the rest of the menu was sandwiches, appetizers, and salad. I decided to get the chicken nachos. My husband got the grilled cheese. He asked our waitress about the soup of the day and the waitress copped an attitude and let us know that the chef had not come to work on time for pre-​prepping and so she wasn’t sure that a soup was made.
I can understand the waitress’s frustration, but it is highly unprofessional to complain about the place you work. There were many ways to handle this situation that would have put us at ease, but instead she made me wonder what the heck was going on in the kitchen.
When our orders came, it was someone else that delivered the food. This guy was super nice and petted my dog and asked if he could bring him some food. The bus-​boy was also super nice and to us and our dog, as well.
The chicken nachos, were unfortunately not great. The nacho chips were burnt. There were exactly two tiny pieces of chicken in the entire dish. When I say tiny, I mean two strips that were ½ inch in length and ¼ inch in width. No joke. The black beans had not been rinsed before they were put on the nachos so everything had a black soup on it. The beans were also not seasoned with anything. Plenty of cheese. The jalapeño slices were not roasted. They were just fresh slices. In one word: bland. I didn’t eat the entire dish. My husband’s toasted cheese was also not seasoned, the bread was dry.
I am hoping that this gets worked out as they are in business longer. We will most likely give it another try in a few months to see if things change.

Really enjoyed our evening at the new City Park Grill in Tower Grove South! I was immediately taken by the beautiful, handmade wooden bar. It’s absolutely gorgeous and very uniquely designed. I noticed all of the artwork on the walls were black and white prints of various well-​known parks around St. Louis. Cool theme! The photos are really interesting and compliment the wooden accents throughout the bar. They have a large, circular wall in the middle of the dining room and we heard a local artist is going to be progressively painting a mural to include scenes from the St. Louis city parks!
We ordered a bunch of different food and everything was great! Favorites were the hand breaded chicken fingers with the house made wing sauce (by recommendation of server.) I also loved the individually stacked chicken nachos with the guac! Definitely coming back to try some more of the menu items and sample some of those custom cocktails! It’ll be cool to see where they’re at on that mural next time we go!

I would highly recommend checking this place out. At first glance, the menu looks «like a standard bar menu» but it is truly far from. The spices are spot on and unlike anything around South City. I’ve been there a few times and didn’t realize the cocktails are priced the way they are because they actually have more liquor than a standard cocktail. The cucumber basil drink is my absolute favorite. The potato skins are my favorite food item (so far)… One word. Bacon. Lots and lots of crunchy bacon. I’ll definitely be visiting often.

I have seen this place gradually grow into a finished establishment each day after our Tower Grove pup walks, so I am glad to see a bright new place on Morganford. Stopped by after work for the first time tonight. Mixed drinks and drafts are definitely on spot. Customer service and the bartenders could not be more hospitable. They definitely fit into the friendly atmosphere that we all know and love in the Morganford area.
Prices…well, those are a bit on the high side. A 4 Hands draft is priced at $ 7, which is certainly no competition for a place such as SoHa, particularly at happy hour. There were no Happy Hour specials as of yet. From what I hear, those will be coming soon. I will certainly be back to try out the grub, but for now, it seems to be a great place that needs to dial in their price points on drinks. Food prices seem pretty fair. Oh, and for all of you dog lovers, their patio is pup-​friendly!

I was optimistic about a new addition to Morganford since I live nearby, but this place doesn’t add much variety to the neighborhood. My girlfriend and I just had drinks there, not food, but judging from the menu and the food I saw other people getting, it looks like pretty standard bar food, nothing out of the ordinary. Considering that Three Monkeys is just across the street and The Dam is down the block, I’m not sure why they thought this stretch of Morganford needed another place to get a burger. The beer list was ok but not all that extensive, and the cocktail I tried was on the watery side.
The dining room was fairly crowded when we got there, and with concrete floors that meant it was also loud, so we decided to sit outside. The patio was well supplied with citronella candles (an unfortunate necessity in a St. Louis summer), but it felt like a frat was having its 10-​year reunion, lots of dudes in polo shirts yelling loud enough for everyone around them to hear. Not really my scene. I may give them another chance one of these days, but if I’m just looking for a burger and a beer I’ll probably go with one of the other options nearby. It would be great to see them experiment more with the menu rather than doing the standard burger /​sandwich /​salad options.

The décor was very unique. I love how they incorporated pictures of old St. Louis with a contemporary industrial look. Also loved the large bar area. It was unlike some places where you have to reach or squeeze in to get a drink. Lots of room inside or on the patio.
To start we had the tower grove drink with vodka and fresh muddled watermelon. Very light and refreshing. We tried the sweet potato skins loaded with cheese and bacon. Really liked the option of regular or sweet potato. We also had the kale and artichoke dip served with chips and fresh vegetables for dipping. It was excellent.
The burger was the best. Lots of flavor. Very juicy. You can order it «city style». I would easily compare this burger to the ones served at the top rated «Au Cheval» in Chicago.
The food here is all fresh. Nothing was frozen first. My only complaint is that it isn’t closer to our house.

City Park Grill has only been opened for a week or so. It actually has its «Grand Opening» on Friday, August 14^th. It is a bright bar/​restaurant on the corner of Morgan Ford and Juniata in Tower Grove. It was formerly the Tin Can before that place was torn down and replaced by this brand new building and new corner bar. It was reasonably busy with a good crowd dining and watching the Cards on the five or six big screen tvs.
I sat at the bar and had one of the great variety of draft beers then ordered some wings — thought I would go traditional with wings to get a taste. Other than the cheering of the game on the silent tvs it was pretty quiet. No music playing on the jukebox made for a very quiet bar.
I finished the wings and my first beer and then ordered my second. I found the beers and food a little bit pricey. I asked the bartender about happy hour specials but they have not set that up yet. My wings, 4 Hands rye IPA, and Zwickel cost $ 22.
I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because they are still working things out. They definitely need a happy hour and to possibly cut the food or drink prices a bit.
I will definitely be back to give it another shot as I live just a half a block away!
