Claim Academy

I’m not too thrilled with Claim Academy at this time.
I interviewed on Wednesday for a possible java bootcamp training course. I already had the pre-​requisite education from a technical school and I am trying to get my foot in the door, so why not get the great experience and possibly get into a Jr. Level IT position with a great company?
For one thing: their programming bootcamps are 12 weeks in length and costs $ 8,000 per training course. This is a lot of money if you think about it. Most courses at a community college are much less money than this traning bootcamp at $ 800 a piece, at least. ITT Tech, which was a school that I went to, tops at around $ 1800 per course.
They do offer flexible payment options, such as upfront payment, a payment plan of half the first day of the course, then payments thereafter. Or, you could try qualifying for their scholarship program.
The scholarship program has a lot of unrealistic hoops to jump through. You would have to take a course in Ruby from Codecademy. Codecademy is a great place to learn skills for absolutely free. But here was the catch. Their internal IDE moved extremly slowly. I had to refresh the development pages several times so I can input my project code so I can move onto the next lesson. In other words, what was supposed to be a 9 hour course in Ruby would end up a much longer course. As well, my power went out last night, so I could not get finished with the course.
Kristena wanted me to finish both the Ruby course and to submit several Java coding challenges by tomorrow morning, so I could interview on Saturday for this scholarship program. Completely, unrealistic, expectations.
I called her today and let her know about my situation. My power went out and I could not finish the course last night. Kristena offered no empathy or other options and reiterated that I still needed to finish my deliverables by Friday morning.
I saw Alex Pearson’s presentation with 1 million cups, and they have a great intent and huge ambitions, but I don’t think I will be moving forward with Claim Academy at this time. Their courses are completely unaffordable, with a scholarship opportunity that is out of reach for me.
