Eh. That’s how I felt when I took a spin around the store. The guy working was incredibly nice and helpful, and there were several cute items, but it just wasn’t full of stuff I would actually buy for myself or my home. It struck me as a good place to get gifts perhaps. There were a lot of items like candles, cheese plates, wine glasses, and fancy lamps. A bit of an odd concoction of stuff, but cute to look at and a pleasant place to pop in on a Saturday afternoon.

Stopped in after lunch on Morgan Ford — so much more than furniture. Ended up with a lamp I didn’t need but just couldn’t pass up, great place to pick up gift stuff too. Apparently it’s locally owned by people in the neighborhood, makes it even better.

Haven’t(yet) had the opportunity to really shop here, but stopped in while walking along Morgan Ford the other evening. Bill, one of the owners, was super nice and told us about his business, and pointed out some really neat pieces that he’d refinished. Since we’re from out of the area he even gave us some tips on living in St. Louis in general, and was just generally warm and friendly. They have a beautiful selection of Mission-style pieces for good prices. The shop is full of stuff but not crowded or cluttered. Once I get settled in St. Louis I know I’ll be back here!

Having grown up a few blocks from Grove Furnishings I am familiar with the area. In past decades there was a restlessness & decline when driving through to walk the park or pick up a Black Thorn pizza. Those of you who have watched your childhood community shift gears & go to seed know it’s akin to losing a piece of your personal history. In recent years, however, the neighborhoods contained within the boundaries of Shaw-Grand-Chippewa-Kingshighway has been given a new chance with TLC& creativity by natives & newcomers alike. Whole blocks have resurrected. Apartment buildings are reborn as condos. Tower Grove Park is once again full of walkers, families, sports teams, picnics & a wonderful seasonal farmers’ market. Swept up into the rebirth is the Morgan Ford business district. Grove Furnishings & its owners Bill & John are members of this thriving area. I wandered into the shop one day a few years ago after having weekend breakfast at Three Monkeys. I was attracted to the quirky & eccentric owners & their equally funky inventory of gifts, furnishings, artwork & local woodcrafts. Most of the warm rich wood furniture featured is refurbished by Bill & John. They are fiercely proud of their work & their shop & they SHOULD be. It is excellent. Up until the day I croak my favorite purchase will be a low-sitting Limbert Arts & Crafts rocker with its renewed dark stain & rebuilt soft leather upholstery. I am rocker territorial. Open only on the weekends, the stock they carry for the holidays is particularly wonderful. Hint: Drop in on Three Monkeys or Local Harvest for Sunday breakfast then amble over to see Grove Furnishings. For a smaller shop, I regularly end up looking at my watch an hour after I’ve crossed the threshold & no longer wonder where the time went.

Grove Furnishings is a surprising little find that I am eager to share with all of you. Inside there are interesting pieces of furniture that are lower in price than that of other places. They also sell home décor items that range in price from very low to high. Styles range from whimsical to glitzy to Frank Lloyd Wright inspired. The lady here was very friendly, and has a laugh that made me smile. The customers were all greeted by her, and engaged in conversations. The shop is laid out in a pleasing way so that customers can walk through without running into each other or into the products.
