I really really enjoyed my visit to Home Eco. Fantastic selection set up well and very reasonably priced. Basically everything in the other reviews is spot on. Except! as I was leaving I mentioned that I work at Local Harvest Grocery and asked if I could take a few business cards to hang up on our bulletin board. The owner immediately turned a little nasty and told me that he wasn’t fond of the idea of competitors supporting competitors. Really? Really?! First of all, I don’t think we’re your competitor dude. Second, why the hell not? There are –maybe– 20 products that Home Eco and Local Harvest have in common. There’s a completely different feel between the two stores and completely different range of products. In fact, I can simplify that statement by saying that Local Harvest is a GROCERY store and Home Eco is far from. Anyway, I just think it’s terribly terribly disappointing that he was so adamant about not supporting LHG(and vice versa) when my only initial thought was how glorious it was to have both stores right here in the city. Working together for a green future and all that. I had expected good will and all I found was petty nastiness.

Mother Earth has an advocate in Home Eco. A little shop on Macklind in the South Hampton area, I stumbled upon it during the Macklind Days Fest. I entered the store to a clean, fresh smell that made me perk up. I took a stroll around and was surprised by how many eco friendly items are available and that the prices are not as sky high as I would expect. I ended up purchasing a vegetable and fruit wash. A friend bought an all purpose cleaner. Not only does Home Eco sell cleaning products but they also carry gardening supplies, beauty soaps, hand soaps and other houselhold items. And a lot of locally made products as well. Too many to mention. Just go in and look around. But the best thing I was most pleasantly surprised by was the selection of Kakoa chocolate at the check out counter. Yum. A great way to end my shopping experience.

Huzzah for Home Eco! I can’t add too much to Sarah F.‘s review, but I will mention that the owners are super nice and will answer any dumb questions and entertain crazy ideas like ordering special items just for you. Oh, you can also bring your own container and fill it up with environmentally friendly laundry soap. That way, you just buy the soap and not excess packaging.

Home Eco is a smart addition to the St. Louis green movement. They offer a nice range of products that will help you convert your home from an energy devouring monster to a more balanced energy consumption plan. They have items for the garden as well including rain barrels(which take the water from your gutters and uses it to fill drums that are stored outside. The«gray water» can then be used to water the lawn or even fill your toilets if you install a whole house pump) At Home Eco you’ll find other gardening things like compost systems, and food scrap containers for the kitchen. The food scrap containers they have are the ones with charcol air filters so your entire eating area doesn’t become overrun with stink and flies.(always a plus ;) I went there for the first time yesterday and bought a really nice water filter for our kitchen sink. Besides what’s mentioned, Home Eco also carries some organic/sustainably grown textile items like bed linens and bath towels. All around, this store is pretty rad. I hope people start catching on, and turn to them for their energy saving and eco-friendly home needs.
