Cool little dive bar on the hipster Cherokee Street strip. Recently opened, they host live music from local artists, and serve cheap beer and booze. Relaxed and super laid-back atmosphere, wouldn’t mind stopping in for a Stag or Jim Beam on the rocks next time I’m on Cherokee. Nice patio out back for your nicotine needs.

Stopped by here late one night and got a quesadilla. It had zucchini, mushrooms, some other veggies, maybe some beans? and was topped with fresh salsa. Seriously, so good. The guys working the bar were cool too. And there was a fire pit in the back!

This place is dark, and it reminds me of that movie Bordello of Blood where the bar is a front for the whore house underneath, not that there is one, I don’t think, maybe, but probably not. Their was some food in a crockpot that involved Velveeta but I did not sample it. I am DYING to try that sandwich everyone is talking about. Hopefully soon!

Stopped in after a few people at The Whiskey Ring brought in some food that smelled amazing. Small but cozy bar with some unique, funky décor. Nothing fancy drink wise, but they have all the basics & are inexpensive. The owner comes up with a new concoction daily(there is only 1 food offering per day). So far I’ve seen BBQ pork steaks, pot roast & a «Denver Burger» & there always seems to be a cool twist to the ingredients. Large projection area for watching the game, and a decent backyard with a fire pit for lounging. Friday night seems to be Reggae night, which was fun. A nice addition to the neighborhood!

As if Cherokee Street couldn’t get any cooler… now a new bar called Los Punk has joined the fray… and it’s pretty fantastic. I learned about it after reading this RFT article: I wouldn’t quite call it a «dive», more like a cool unassuming bar with style. The décor is simple but gives the place a good vibe. The punk-rock background music gives an upbeat atmosphere. There’s a foosball table, darts, and a Ms Pac Man/Galaga machine. A bunch of space in the back of the bar serves to host local & touring bands from time to time. I didn’t notice any taps, but there’s a decent bottled beer selection. I would highly suggest the Dieselpunk Stout… it’s got hints of coffee and chocolate. And the label on the bottle is cool. And there is food! The menu is small but the food is seriously good. I would highly suggest The People’s Sandwich($ 5 w/chips) — ham, pepperoni, mozzarella, lettuce, and 1000 island dressing on a toasted bun. It’s simple but really well executed. The bread is sourced from the nearby Black Bear Bakery and is hearty and delicious. I also got to try the Mississippi Caviar($ 3.50), a mixture of black-eyed peas, onion, jalapeño, olives, pimento, and dressing, served w/some Ritz crackers. It’s the perfect bar snack… it’s bright and flavorful with a nice bite. There is usually an off-menu daily special as well. And food is served until 1am every night! It’s great to see more good late-night dining on Cherokee. I learned that there’s a reggae night every Friday with some great DJs(and bands too sometimes). And during this, the chef cooks up some kind of Jamaican food that varies from week to week. This is something I will definitely be checking out. Oh, there is also a projector for watching sports. Best of all was the cool and friendly staff. They’re nice as hell and a lot of fun to talk to. They have a lot of pride in what they do and really want to create a fantastic space on Cherokee Street. Definitely check this place out!
