HIREMOREPEOPLE! Please Mattingly, I am begging you. I have now been here twice and had near identical experiences. That experience consisted of amazing food, amazing beer(the Belgian white anyway), and crappy service. I don’t think the waitress is particularly bad. She’s not super personable or anything but she seems to be really trying. But they have one server to work the entire main dining room? On a weekend night? WTF is up with that?! The wings, the pizza, the fish and chips, and most beers here are amazing. I love the setup, the wifi, the location, and the décor. I hate the poor service and lack of a beer menu(it’s all on a chalkboard). With good service, I would easily give this place 5 stars. With«ok» service I could even go with 4. But come on guys, you have been fairly busy both nights I was there and I still felt the service was really lacking. As good as your lone waitress might be, it’s a bit unfair to ask her to take care of 25+ people. Rectify this and Mattingly will climb to near the top of my regullar resturant rotation.

We decided to head over to Mattingly for the 1st time since we were both off work on a Monday afternoon(and not too many other places were open). We were the only ones in the place that day so we just sat at the bar. The bartender was very nice but not talkative… we didn’t care. Hubby decided to get the entire tour(7 samples) to see what all of their beers were like and ended up liking the Smoked Imperial Brown the best(which I have no opinion since I hate beer…:)) Another reviewer said that they didn’t have a tour, so maybe this is a new thing. The interior was roomy and inviting with a warm décor. They have a «game room» of sorts, but all I saw was one video game machine so maybe that is still in the works. Since they didn’t have any cider and I didn’t really feel like wine, I just got water and we ordered a side of fries… which were like thick chunky fries, no real seasoning but hot and they really hit the spot. They do have a back patio but so far no umbrellas for the tables… it was really nice out so maybe that is coming once it starts to heat up. They also give out their grain bags which are great for yard waste. We’ll for sure be going back(esp since we live off of Jefferson) and we have to try more of their food next time.

Really bad beer by a brewing company. Most of the beers I tasted lacked flavor. The bartender did not know much about the beer nor was he very interested in serving us. I was surprised they do not offer a flight of their beer on the menu. I had to ask and pay for individual samples. Weird! I dont recommend this place to anyone who likes good craft brews.

The place is very comfortable and we had a nice relaxed time. My B. F said his beer was great and my wine was also great! Their Chicken wings are MUSTHAVE! They are so plump and juicy-(^^)/ I just wish they would serve these with celery sticks! Then it’ll be perrrfect! Oh, don’t forget to ask for bluecheese! We also ordered Kabobs and these were so tasty as well! Plump and juicy-(^^)/ Yup, the area is a bit ghetto and we were little scared to leave our car outside, but it wasn’t stolen nor broken in. phew.

Had the Abbey and it was a very good beer… great balanced Abbey. The Anniversary Ale is a different story, it’s a «Belgium strong ale with spices». While the taste was okay, it smelled like Hot Damn liquor, which I couldn’t get out of my head while drinking. The service was poor but I think that was because they were short staffed, they had one guy taking care of all tables. The pizza was very good but we were disappointed because they only have two pans for deep dish pizzas and both were just put in. So it would have taken 45 minutes for a deep dish pizza to get started and another 45 minutes for it to cook. The people who got the deep dish pizzas were behind us and they complained the dough was thoroughly cooked. The people to the side of us complained the order wasn’t right. While the service was not good, I think it was because they were short staffed so we are certainly going to give it another chance.

I have eaten here several times, both carry out and dine in. Their menu is very vegetarian friendly. I love their stuffed flat bread, which is like a sandwich on their tasty flat bread and you choose the toppings you want on it. I always get broccoli, mozzarella and mushrooms and it is delicious. I love love their fresh cut french fries. I don’t normally like thick cut fries, but since these are fresh cut, they are great. Their house salad is very good with very large home-made croutons with a very nice house dressing. I’ve also had their pizza, which is good and their fish and chips. I’ve never tried the beer, since I’m not a beer drinker, but I’ve heard its the place to go for beer nerds. I also have to compliment the music they play there. The last time I was there on a Saturday afternoon they were playing a great eclectic mix, including the White Stripes and Johnny Cash. I loved it!

Something on the menu that you must try at Mattingly? The pterodactyl wings! Delish!

I am always scouring for the next great deal to take advantage of, so when offered $ 25 gift cards for about $ 2, I seized the opportunity to purchase one for a local microbrewery in STL. Upon arriving on a Friday night around 7, the place was deserted with the exception of a few locals at the bar. We ordered a round of the house beers, all of which were average to above average. They did have a nice selection, but the drink fare consisted mostly of dark lagers — which is great if you are into that sort of thing. The food: Overall I give it a B+. I ordered a calzone type dish, and the dough was extra good and seemed to made in house. The cheese and ingredients were all fresh, the only thing missing was a side of marinara. My wife ordered the burger, which I thought was excellent, she thought it was a little too«meaty». It reminded me of a big juicy burger that you would cook in your backyard, and had a nice grille flavor to it. I thought it was worth the $ 8.25. She got the Grinder burger. The hit dish of the night and what will bring me back next time is the PIZZA! Oh man, was it delightful. The cheese was creamy mozzarella, the crust was by far and away the most unique I have tasted in the area. Nice spices and the perfect balance of crispiness and doughiness. The Pepperoni was solid, and the sauce was very refreshing. The house salad was pretty good, they made it extra special just for me. Or so the waitress said. Mattingly’s is a great place to kick back with a small group, because there isn’t a whole lot of tables in there.

We stumbled into this place on accident. It was a cold empty Thursday night but they still served awesome food, great service, and a very entertaining trivia night. We ended up winning the trivia but would have gone back either way. This is a St. Louis gem.

I swear by Mattingly Brewing Company. Whether you’re looking for a nice meal, a couple drinks, or an office party, Mattingly will prove itself worthy. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu, and the only thing I have a problem with is the Thai Salad: just a little too peanut-buttery tasting for me. Otherwise, everything else on there is exceptional. MYFAVORITEITEMS: –Pterodactyl Wings –Kebobs –Fish and Chips The Beer: Mattingly does brew their own beer, and they have been now for over a year. They are always coming out with new styles and flavors, so pop in and find out what’s on tap. My favorites so far have been the Homeward Brown, and the Pumpkin Brew. I hope you decide to try this place out! You can’t go wrong!

Quick Note Regarding Wheelchair Accessibility: I was told by a friend that he did see a gentleman in his wheelchair having dinner there, so I am quite certain it is wheelchair accessible. Review: Friday evening; full house. Four in our party. Feasted on: roasted red pepper hummus with slightly toasted pita bread brewhouse salad specialty 14″ pizza called«The Texan» house pumpkin beer Here are my thoughts on each of the items we ordered: The hummus and pita bread were a nice delight. The hummus had a slight vinegar flavor that was great. Given the amount of pita bread, would have liked more hummus to be there! I was quite impressed with the pita bread. Probably not authentic, but it was good. The house salad was disappointing. It was missing the spinach and tomato advertised on the menu. The croutons were old pita bread. A corner was cut. The pizza was good. I was impressed with the crust. It did have some sort of herbal treatment, along with grated parmesan that was nice. The house pumpkin beer was quite flavorful and worthwhile. I would suggest trying this, if you like pumpkin beers in general.

You can go ahead and just run me a bath of the Cardinal Abbey Dubble. Then you can drown me in it, because that’s how I want to go. What a silky, spicy, sexy beer, a Belgian style that’s as good as it gets, my friends. I went in for a sandwich-in-a-glass for lunch a couple Saturdays ago and ended up chatting the entire afternoon away with the cook(I’m sorry to say I didn’t get/don’t recall his name) and bartender, Ashley. I also gave the brown ale a try, which was not the best brown ale I’ve met. I also spent a little time with their fall brew. Drink this if you would like to get kicked in the face by fall. Tastes like Hobby Lobby! Brewed with not only pumpkin, but sweet potatoes, too. Mattingly is a great spot for an afternoon beverage, order the trio with hummus and tapenade, and sit by the window to watch the crack heads limp down Jefferson.

Some of my co-workers and I have decided to try as many local bars as we can find. Yesterday, two of us went here. Along with their own brews, Mattingly has a few taps representing other local microbreweries. I had two pints of their own Black Sky Stout Porter and enjoyed it very much. Glen stuck with O’Fallon Brewery’s O’Fallon Wheat. We sat at the bar with a couple of regulars. The bartender was friendly, and even joined a discussion of which cell phone Glen should buy next. We shared a couple of appetizers: the house baked flatbreads served with pesto, tapenade, and hummus, and the fried calamari served with lemon/garlic butter and marinara. Both were excellent. The bartender told us that they sliced and breaded the calamari themselves, and Glen and I agreed that it was better than calamari we’ve had elsewhere. Like many South City corner bars, it seemed very family friendly. In fact, a couple of families came in with their kids just before we left. Like many brewpubs, Mattingly also apparently offers«growlers». At least, we observed one of the regulars leave with a glass bottle of stout. I may try that trick the next time I come. All in all, I highly recommend Mattingly Brewing.

Even though it’s a brewing company, we ordered carryout and did not get to sample any of the beers. Foodwise, it’s not bad — I had the BLAT salad(without the tomatoes) and it was GINORMOUS. I had specified the smaller size, but I got a regular-sized styrofoam box that was filled with what felt like a super large salad. There was half an avocado, about 6 strips of bacon(cooked perfectly), and a blend of lettuce and spinach. The salad was so large, it could’ve been my entire meal. I also had an order of the pterodactyl wings — they are def pretty big for wings. The appetizer order comes with a dozen and comes for your choice of sauce. For me personally, these weren’t anything really special but then again, I might’ve been too full off my salad to really enjoy eating anything else. It looks like pizza is the specialty here, and there are plenty of options. From the looks of my friend’s order, the pizza looked good(it smelled delicious!).

In my opinion, you can’t beat a restaurant or bar with Delirium Tremens on tap, as well as a good range of beer. The interior is cozy and has a friendly corner pub feel, full of hardwood flooring and an accessible bar with a few TVs for your sports viewing pleasure. Although I didn’t come there to eat, I saw a hand-tossed pizza that looked delicious. In fact, their menu looks great with a variety of small plates that included kabobs and calamari, but goes further with pastas, pizzas, and a pacific salmon entrée that I’ve pegged as my dish of choice when I revisit. The service is friendly and knowledgeable and even served as good company when business slowed down, although I didn’t agree with the lack of a server in their back patio. However, they were really nice about it. However, I was a little dismayed to find out that their house-brewed beer isn’t ready. I think we visited Mattingly Brewing Company a little too early, but I’m very curious to their house beer, and their pizza, which is served St. Louis style, hand tossed, and Chicago style.
