Merb’s Candies

Having to be out in this area last night to get our car serviced, we stopped in Merb’s for some gummi bears. Every once in a while, I get a ridiculous craving for gummi bears… so when I saw the store I told my husband to pull over! Cute and small little candy store. The bionic apples looked amazing, but I stuck with a bag of gummis and a bag of lemon drops. The lady at the counter was super friendly. My sister and I enjoyed both of our candies as a late night treat. The gummi bears had lots of different flavors, I know I tasted a pink lemonade one in there.

I did review the other one, but saturday i was out doing my normal weekly running and needed to get some easter candy and rememebered this location and decided to stop here to get it. While it does not have the storefront presence as the original shop it has all the yummy goodness here too! I found they had alot of different selections of easter bunnies and other easter goodness. Along with their normal fare of yummy chocolate covered strawberries and other candy.

Oh you suburbanized version of the original… how I wish you had that same neighborhood charm… you don’t…but your candy is still devine.
My parents both grew up in Dutchtown. They lived on this candy growing up and when they moved out to South County, so did Merbs. That said, even at 26 years old, an Easter has not passed that did not include a Merb’s Chocolate Bunny. I may not get baskets anymore and I may not eat eggs, but that chocolate bunny has remained a family staple.
This place makes some excellent candy. I have to say, probably the best chocolate strawberries in town, and the Bionic Apples (sold in the fall), AMAZING… seriously, try them and fall in love. Sometimes when you get to Merb’s they are out of the chocolate strawberries and that always leads to massive disappointment. However, they generally only run out if the strawberries weren’t quality enough to sell to customers. That has to make you feel like Merb’s is a company that really want to sell quality candy to their customers.
I have say, this is my favorite candy store in the St. Louis area. All candy will start to taste like swill in your mouth after eating Merb’s.
