Okay, don’t come here if you’re looking for an overly nice, peppy staff. But if you want good coffee, a good controversial conversation, and a good study environment COMEHERE. I really really love the staff that works here. I love what they stand for, and I love how they’re not afraid to express themselves. They speak their minds. They’re all around complete badasses. A lot of the reviews say that the coffee is bad but I personally think it’s some of the best coffee in STL. I love the Sarahbucks and the Mudslide, btw. The food is good as well. The pita and hummus plate and the quesadilla are amazing. A bit pricey but I don’t mind supporting this local business. Like I stated previously, I love the atmosphere here. The black lives matter signs to the stickers on the fridge, I love everything about it! The upstairs is amazing for studying. It’s always quiet. Every time I come here there’s a club that’s meeting in the downstairs area and that makes me love it even more because I find it interesting. Yes, the furniture is a little beat up but it’s no where near disgusting. It’s what makes the place have character! I’ll never stop coming here.

Food is better than cleanliness and service. Rude and unenthusiastic service had a bad attitude. Lack of cleanliness left me feeling grossed out. Eggs Benedict was made well, and Mocha was fine, but I won’t be back.

When we first moved to St. Louis(from Central IL), in November 2014, Mokabe’s was one of the first places we ventured into. We were so grateful to have it near our Fox Park neighborhood! We came from a community in IL that had a large vegetarian /locavore population, with a lot of awesome options for dining. We didn’t find that so much in St. Louis, except for a few key places. Mokabe’s is one of them. The food is beyond compare: endless options for vegans and vegetarians. Vegetarian /Vegan brunch on Sundays is our main event for the week sometimes. We quickly became regulars: we sat at tables planning our wedding, and then later celebrated when we found out we were expecting. We look forward to bringing our little one for brunch when he is born! At brunch: there is vegan sausage, vegetarian biscuits and gravy, the best scrambled tofu, and always an amazing spread of seasonal salads and sweets. The regular menu is just as good with veggie burgers, pastries, and the best lattes. They do serve meat as well, but this place is a destination if you are a veggie like us! Now, we live slightly further away, but we still make the trip into the neighborhood for a fix every now and then! One of our favorites!

Mokabe’s is my new coffee spot. I’m a coffee snob but they pass the test with flying colors. They have awesome drinks with fun names, fun seating and an extensive drink and food menu. Art can be seen hanging on the walls and it’s a pretty hip place. I hear they have awesome brunch. All of that aside, Mckabe’s also has an incredible impact on the community. They collect items for the poor and distribute them on Sunday’s. Get a good cup of joe and spend your money at great business!

Moved to the neighborhood three days ago and I’m already obsessed with the breakfast burritos here. Awesome and fast lattes too. Plus I love going to a place that espouses feminist, anti-racist values and is lesbian owned. Will be back frequently.

I always love this place. The staff is welcoming, the food is good, and the vibe is awesome. I’ve been here probably 50 or so times. Great place to study, meet up with friends, play board games, or chill and read a book. I highly recommend this place.

Love love love this coffee shop! I am moving to STL from CA in a few weeks and am so excited! I am vegan and have been blown away at all of the possibilities. I don’t mess with soy and so I loved how they have almond milk as an option. I had the black bean burger and it was so die for. No need for any mustard, salt or pepper. Now that’s real.

Fiancée and I stopped in on vacation. Our impression was mixed– walking in looked a little sketchy– but we quickly realized that it’s a genuinely welcoming little café with an awesome eclectic progressive vibe. Lattés were amazing, sandwiches delicious, and fellow diners were a diverse and interesting bunch. Highly recommended!

So I’m a procrastinator. I will admit it. I had an assignment due at midnight on Friday night and didn’t start it until Friday after work. I had been to Mokabe’s before most likely on a Sunday for a quick breakfast. I knew it was a great place to study and that it was open until midnight. Perfect! I arrived at maybe 5:20. I ordered the pick a pair with a cup of veggie chili and a ½ BCT(bacon, cheddar, & tomato) sandwich and a cup of hot tea. By 5:30 I was settled in upstairs with laptop connected to WiFi etc. The food was great for what it was. I realize it’s a Friday night and some people aren’t procrastinators and are out socializing but it did get really busy in there. Apparently Friday is some kind of gaming night there. At about 8:30 a sketchy guy sat down 2 tables away from me. I never figured out if he had a headset on and was talking on the phone or if he was just having a conversation with himself. He sat at the table by himself chatting for about 10 – 15 minutes. He walked over to me touched my shoulder, motioned towards my laptop and started muttering something about Skype. I nodded like I knew what he was talking about but gave him my best DFWM look. He moved on to another woman who was sitting alone. I stayed for another 5 – 10 minutes and couldn’t concentrate after that so I took off. It’s unfortunate because I would have stayed a few more hours and ordered lots more caffeine. I was definitely in the zone in there and feeling the vibe up until the point of interruption.

Coffee and service are both pretty terrible. Outside part was nice(visually) except for the constant cigarette smoke. Would not visit again. Any business that promotes discrimination of ANY group, gender, religion, etc. should not be in business. That message denotes bias and is anti-American. Perhaps a coffee shop in Iran would better suit these owners. I wish I could give zero stars.

Stopped in for a quick bite while in town for work. The sandwich was decent, nothing special but well made and tasty as sandwiches go. The staff, however, was pretty rude. Service was terrible with a big spoonful of crabby. Tables were pretty sticky(at least mine was), and the bathroom was atrocious. Seriously, what place these days forgets both soap and papertowels? Going on food alone: 3 stars. Considering staff and cleanliness: 1 star.

I went to MoKaBe’s Coffeehouse for the first time in the mid-2000’s, visiting my dad in St. Louis shortly before he died. I had some awesome coffee drink and watched the community go by. Mokabe’s made me know that, if I needed to move back to care for Dad, I’d find my tribe nearby and it’d be OK. Good for them that they’re now famous for FTP and shit.

I know there is a lot of hype here but it just wasn’t all it is made out to be. It was nice to sit outside but didn’t really enjoy the cigarette smoke blowing in my face.

Very friendly staff, playing one of my favorite albums«Goddess» by Banks, sitting on wonderful patio, keep checking to make sure that my veggie patty isn’t beef because it tastes so good.(The blue Mac) Great coffee house with a great message.

MoKabe’s is as much an equality headquarters as it is a coffeehouse. There are artwork, banners, and signs everywhere that broadcast the location’s call for peace and the eradication of prejudice and inequality. I went there for the first time this past Saturday for lunch and a business meeting. I found myself in awe of the fellowship, dialogue, and comradery that i observed while there. I could tell that there are a lot of regulars that frequent there. It was its own community. It was beautiful and fascinating. As for my food and drink, I had a half Reuben sandwich, half Greek salad, and an iced Kelly Kickasser. Everything was excellent. I wish I had ordered a whole sandwich. I’ll know better for next time. This is a good place for small meetings or studying, and has two levels. A tip for newbies: order and pay at the end of the bar under the«order here» sign, then you are given a flower to put on your table for when your meal is ready and will be delivered. I absolutely recommend this place and will be back! I commend a company that stands up for what it believes in, and supports its community and its struggles rather than ignore them.

The customer service is RAW, hardcore friendliness(I know hardcore sounds rough) but that’s exactly what I intend to deliver. It’s nice-sty service. The employees don’t put on a nice act or pretend to be hospitable. They’ll say hi, grab your order and answer questions if you should have any. The oatmeal is pretty good as are the lattes. I enjoy Becky’s Bitchin’ Brew. They have homemade vegan brownies and chocolate chip cookies to die for. There’s free Wi-Fi indoors, upstairs and outdoors. They’re open later than most café’s at midnight and won’t rush you out. Sunday brunch is available, although I’ve never indulged personally.

Cool setting and overall nice place(employees, crowd, building, etc.) The drinks are only ok as are the prices. Seating can be tricky in the evening and parking can be a real pain on the weekends. I would visit a lot more often if it were the only coffee within walking distance of south grand but the gelateria does a much better job with coffee.

Great coffee, funky atmosphere, and super fun & friendly service! My friends and I were going to grab lunch at Rooster… but it had a 30 minute wait. So during our wait, we ran down the street to MoKaBe’s to grab some coffee. Almost wish we would have just stayed at MoKaBe’s instead. They serve brunch as well… and even though I didn’t try anything… it did look great!

Bad bacon. Do I really need to say more when it comes to brunch? The bacon was really barely edible to us. Okay, I will say more — don’t bring your kids. We did and my daughter was puzzled by some of the raunchy drawings on the wall. As an amateur artist, I’ll have to admit they are pretty good though. So was a lot of the food, really. One more negative; I was pretty disappointed when the coffee was gone, but they refilled it within a couple of minutes. Overall, the staff was hustling to clear tables and they did a good job of keeping the food hot — always a challenge for brunch. I like the funky coffeehouse vibe and would come back for lunch sometime. For brunch? I’d probably come back if somebody wanted me to, but nothing was special enough to call out for a return visit.
