I’ve decided to explore the possibility of coming out of Unilocal retirement. But as part of this process, I’m turning over a new, more positive Unilocal leaf. I’ve gone in and deleted all of my old one and two star reviews, and will no longer write reviews below four stars. If I don’t have something nice to say, I won’t say anything at all. Unless you REALLY piss me off. Ahem. Without further ado: Marc(the owner) came out to my house to check out our insulation situation. He crawled all throughout our attic space, taking measurements with an infrared thermometer, and came up with a plan for the unusual situation we had. He could have said«spray everything with a few inches of closed-cell spray foam insulation,» charged me an ungodly sum of money, and gone on his way; but instead, he used fiberglass batts where it made sense; foam board where it made sense; blown-in where it made sense; and a conservative amount of spray foam where it made sense. He also advised increasing the size of a particular flexible duct and adding a few transfer grilles to improve circulation. He patiently answered the questions I had(there were many) and pointed us to a program through Laclede Gas that helps finance energy efficiency improvements. Their workers seemed to be very proficient — the owner mentioned that he sends a lot of them out of state to train in well-regarded energy efficiency programs — and got the job done in a timely fashion. In the end, they lowered the temperature of our second half-story significantly. Now we have started using them for our annual AC/furnace service, and I really don’t see a good reason to use any other company for HVAC/home efficiency work in the future.
