All you can eat crawfish for $ 12! Got there around 8:30, still plenty left. Fun people, good music, great silent auction prizes. My only major gripe is that they ran out of paper towels, which is kind of a must have with crawfish. Had to battle the crowds to get my dirty hands to the bathroom, where there were still paper towels. A really awesome event if you like crawfish, hipsters, or fun.

After last year’s impromptu date at Off Broadway’s crawfish boil, my husband and I hope it returns this summer. For $ 10, we stuffed ourselves with crawfish, corn, potatoes, and tasty, sweet corn muffins, offsetting the somewhat spicy crawfish nicely. We also ordered drinks and chatted with other couples around us. Shortly before 6 p.m., we arrived, anticipating crawfish lovers lined up on the street, but it turned out to be only a few of us with the same strategy. We killed some time before the first batch hit the table by ordering drinks. We loved the vibe and atmosphere of the outdoor dining because it almost seemed like we were eating in someone’s backyard. The crowd consisted of all ages but mostly college kids and thirty-somethings with a few older couples. A band started playing but we could care less as our eyes were on the prize – crawfish, crawfish, and more crawfish! We returned to the table, piling our plates with a crazy amount of these crustaceans. Overall, we enjoyed our dinner at Off Broadway’s crawfish boil. It was a different kind of date that proved to be an event that we would definitely revisit.

Alright, I might as well get this out while I’m obnoxiously drunk… 5:30pm — 3 intrepid crawfish enthusiasts arrive in hopes of beating the crowd. There were none. Doors didn’t open til 6pm so we pregamed at the Stable. 6:15pm — we get to the place and no crawfish yet. People just hanging around… but there was some awesome corn bread(did one of hte varieties have vanilla?) 6:20pm — I spend the time plugging the Gumbo Shop and their po’boy with gumbo and jambalaya in it(the kitchen calls it the«monster» btw… be sure to tip extra if you order it!!!) 6:45pm — First batch comes out. Their boil was just crawfish that was seasoned after boilage… there were corn and potatoes but were boiled separately? Dude… I have bigger pots than they do… just say’n. 6:45pm — Wife realizes that there are no mushrooms, artichoke, garlic, onions, lemon, or sausage. Damned straight, you’d better appreciate me now. 6:50pm — I just laid waste to a pound of crawfish. I get 2nds… then 3rds… the other two with me are still on their first pound… it’s not about peeling the crawfish… it’s about extraction! 7:15pm — Crowd heats up. We were surprised at how many people were here. It’s all good, though, because maybe 25% of the people were actually eating crawfish… 8:00pm — by the 3rd batch it’s become clear that nobody’s quite eating it up anymore. We go in for the kill. 8:10pm — these guys were plugging some sauce… kind of like a creole sauce… it was ok… but they were serving out some pretty decent stew… 8:30pm — The bands inside finally get going. The wife isn’t too big a fan… but we were jsut concentrating on the crawfish anyway. 8:45pm — we were just about done… but there were still more crawfish! My advice, order 50lbs less crawfish and stock up on the sausage, onions, garlic, and mushrooms… you’ll save money and it’s WAYBETTERANYWAY. Better yet… you should just ask me to help you guys out. You remember me. I was that one Asian guy that kept bugging you guys. 9:00pm — we’re done. I would say that we finished at LEAST12lbs of crawfish between the 3 of us. Two of us take another shot before heading off. This event’s freaking awesome.
