I grew up in the dutchtown/carondelet area, so this library is a staple in my upbringing. I can’t tell you the amount of hours I’ve spent in this branch, whether for leisure, school or otherwise. I’ve seen it go through a lot of changes, cosmetic and staff. It has all of your essentials needs, as far as literature and computer usage, but their DVD collection is… meh. Some of the staff is usually friendly, but there’s a few who aren’t really nice, and always have a chip on their shoulders, for whatever reason. Community programs and townhalls are constant for the young and old, so the traffic is steady. I love the quaint feel it gives; it’s one of the smaller branches in the city. To really have a pleasant experience, you’ll want to get there early, especially when school is still in session. It’s a hangout spot for neighborhood kids, and it can be a little rowdy. Also, there is a halfway house directly across the street. Many of those men come in and out all day. Some are a little stretchy, but there’s usually an officer/security present. All in all, Carondelet isn’t a bad place. There’s a few hangups, but you get that anywhere, right? I’m a long time patron, so there’s not must I fuss over. I go there because it’s convenient and close by. I do what I need to do and then I’m out.

On a recent jog through the Carondelet neighborhood, I ran past my fave library to say hello, but there was a huge banner on the outside saying that it was closed due to extensive renovations. Sad library face.
