This steak and shake is one of the most poorly managed locations I have ever seen. On this occasion, my husband and I waited in the drive through for at least 30 minutes and were met at the window by a man wearing a colorful hoodie, and listening to music on a phone. His customer service went only as far as saying our total and handing us our food. The milkshakes smelled like they themselves had come out of one of the fryers. The cool whip had melted, and there was some kind of grease on the rim of the lid for my plain Vanilla shake. We had to throw the shakes away because of their stench. I do not recommended anyone visit. Try the Sonic down the road instead, much better service and quality!

Worst Steak n Shake on the planet. It has competed for this coveted title for a decade. It is now the clear winner. Walked in and asked for a booth which meant they had to actually bus a booth since ALL of them were empty and dishes still stacked high. Ordered a soda, no syrup but served to me anyway. Coffee was cold and also served. Asked for famed pepper sauce for my chili. I literally saw the waitress head to the back to grab an industrial size bottle of vinegar. She simply poured it into the empty bottle of peppers and handed it to me. Floor was so greasy that you could skate on it. I love Steak n Shake and eat at their restaurants all of the time. Not sure how this one stays in business or its management stays employed.

I don’t know how this place stays open, honestly. The service was terrible, the food even worse… it’s a shame, really. I remember coming to Steak-n-Shake when I was a teenager/early 20s and having a great meal every single time. Now? The portions have been shrunken to a mere child’s meal, and your server takes 15 minutes to bring a cup of coffee? What happened? My fries looked and tasted like they were stale then thrown back into the fryer to bring them back to temp, then sat under the heat lamp until they became greasy blobs of inedible nastiness. My server forgot the cheese sauce for my fries, which could be excused had we not been one of three tables in the entire restaurant. Oh, and they seated a large and loud group directly behind us, making our meal even less enjoyable, which I didn’t know was possible up until that point. Who’s the manager of this establishment? He or she obviously doesn’t give two shits about this place, the employees or the customers. Bring in someone who does.

We sat for 10 minutes and four tables never got their orders taken. So we left. Last week lunch took over an hour. MANAGEMENT what ISGOINGONHERE??? Hello Get some lunch help!!! Hello!!!

Had the best burger and shake. Our waitress Kanesha was the friendliest. Great service.

I have been patronizing Steak ‘N Shake for more years than I can remember, and I am in my mid-fifties. I visited this store about three months ago, and ordered my favorite steakburger and fries, and I have been here many times. I also asked for some A-1 steak sauce, but the server said that it was no longer available! What? I have ALWAYS had A-1! She thought it was a corporate decision that was at least district-wide. I ate my steakburger plain, and later phoned in my comments to the toll-free number on the receipt. The call-taker had not heard of this change, and promised a follow-up response, which I never received. Then, after almost three months, I just went to a different and also nearby Steak ‘N Shake, again one that I have been to many times. The first thing I said to the server was, «Do you have A-1 steak sauce?» And she said, «Yes, of course! I’ll bring you extra!» She had heard nothing about eliminating A-1. I thought SNS had an A-1 steakburger on their menu. I felt a bit cheated at the first store, wondered why I never received a follow-up, and could never put ketchup on a steakburger. So, beware! John

The food is great, the service at this location is lousy. It took 35 minutes to get a milk shake.

I called to place an order for carry out and was immediately told that they were very busy. I placed my order and when I asked how long I was told again we are very busy and don’t know how long. Nothing like trying to tell me to take my business elsewhere.

Re-visited a few times recently. A different experience. The food was very good. It was cooked properly. They used fresh ingredients. The kitchen was quiet and professional as was the manager. We also had very good service. The last meal was served by a management trainee who was polite, courteous, professional and thankful. She was an absolute delight. If they can keep this kind of attitude in the house they will be what they once were… the place for burgers and the best french fries in the town!

I experienced a horrible experience and customer service the employees are very rude. We waited 5 mins for them to seat us when we arrived. I would also like to note that I complained to the Supervisor/Manager who came out with very dirty shirt and pants, and had a large hole in one of his pants leg, which I found odd. Upon speaking with him it just felt very unprofessional. But overall, their employees and Manager’s customer service was very very horrible and we felt disgusted.

Prices are great, cheap, and reasonable! I would go there when they are not busy. However, service not so good. I have been to the restaurant for many years. On one occasion, I ordered chicken fingers. I got 4 chicken fingers, 2″ or 3″ each. They were so small and not like how they are usually. I complained to the manager, who did eventually ended up making up for them with 3 more regular size chicken fingers. Not really a big deal, but kind of disappointed that the cooks or waiter did not think I would notice that I was getting like nothing on my plate. Another time, I went in with my friend just to share a shake during happy hour. They were really busy on carry out orders and I understand that, but what does that have to do with the waiter making a quick shake, if there is already one employee working solely on carry outs. Me and my friend waited around 15 minutes until I had to bring it up to the waiter again that I didn’t get my shake yet. So then she tells another person to make the shake and that person gives it to us like 7 minutes later. Sorry, had to mention that from what I have seen at the restaurant, the manager treats their employees like crap. I overheard the manager yelling to a new employee for setting the a bucket on the ground, when they were doing their cut work, saying that«You better not set that on the ground, Im not cleaning that up again». The bucket was just a clean bucket filled with ice. Ice to be carried back from the freezer to the soda machine, not a big deal. It is not like the bottom of the bucket is touching the drinks, and carrying ice is pretty heavy.

I was warned that the person I’m traveling with this week has an unholy love for Steak’n’Shake. I’ve eaten at the chain before and thought that the burgers were pretty decent. Breakfast on the other hand… not so much. First, there is literally not one healthy thing on the breakfast menu. Sure, you can get yogurt — the full sugar kind topped with gloopy pie filling«fruit». And you could get oatmeal — but it’s the presweetened instant varety that tastes like fake maple & shame. I know, I know… what can a person expect when everything on the menu is $ 6 or less? If you want all the pancakes you can cram into your pancake hole, its just $ 3 so there is that. I can take marginally bad food because SNS is what it is, but the service here was bad, bad, bad. There was one table in the place and we had to wait 5 minutes at the desk to be acknowledged and another 10 minutes before our server actually stopped by. Appears we interrupted«co-worker story time». One further note — the restaurant was very, very dirty when we visited. Our table was greasy, the menus were sticky and the bathrooms are… gross. I’m going to leave it at that because to describe what I saw in there goes beyond the boundaries of good taste. All I can say is that there are some seriously dirty bitches in St. Louis.

Sorry, came here on a friday night, got seated and no one served us for more than 10 minutes. Walked around serving everyone else, refilling their drinks. We got up and left, another couple said to us, we weren’t the first ones that left and didn’t get served. Won’t be ever coming back here

It was my first Steak N Shake experience. It blew my mind. Wait, a fast food restaurant with service? Is the food gonna be gross? I was so confused. We don’t have these types of places in Minnesooota. I had the Royale Burger(the cheeseburger with the egg on it) and shared a Strawberry Banana side by side Shake with my husband. Well it was awesome. Great service, the perfect lunch and so many options! It’s a great, no frills place that I will look forward to returning to!

This place defines midnight for me all through high school. Their shakes, i swear, are made with so much love that it practically oozes out of the straw. You will not be able to suck it all down fast enough. They have so many different varities, strawberry, organge, chocolate, vanilla, strawnilla, chonana, oreo, reeses peanut butter, etc, etc, etc… If you go to Steak N Shake, please do not miss out on their shakes. Now to the steak side… Not really sure where to begin. There is something about a super smushed burger patty on a toasted bun that just thinking about it makes my mouth water. Steak N Shake has perfected the burger, sauce, lettuce, tomato, cheese on a bun to a level that will never be reached. I prefer the Frisco Melt which is basically a grilled cheese with a burger in the middle and drizzled with the most delicious«special sauce» I’ve ever had. I love to top that off with some cheese fries, too. Steak N Shake has super thin, crispy fries that give McDonald’s a run for their money. And it only gets better… Steak N Shake is open 24 hours! ALLTHETIME! so go there at 2 pm and hang out with friends til 2am — hey, I’ve done it.

I can’t remember the exact location of the Steak N Shake we visited. It was somewhat near the Sheraton Lakeside Chalet and our server was named Daryl. This review is for whichever Steak N Shake Daryl works at. Daryl really made our experience the best it could be. He handled my picky-ass order with attention and grace. Our water glasses were refilled whenever they got below half full. The milkshakes were also very nice. It’s a shame we don’t have any of these restaurants in MN.

When I was a kid, I used to think that the food at Steak N Shake was prohibitively expensive, because we only ate there every now and again. Like once a year, tops. I only ever went there a handful of times. But now I realize that was just because my parents blame me for ruining their lives, and they hated to see me have a good time. The food at Steak N Shake is ultra cheap. It might even be cheaper than the food at McDonalds — especially when you factor in the relative quality of what you get. Come to find out, I could have been eating Steak N Shake all the time back in the day. Motherfucker! I’m actually kinda glad though, just because I don’t have a lot of money as an adult(coincidence?), and I can still afford to eat at Steak N Shake as often as I want. I couldn’t make myself a hamburger and fries, let alone a delicious milkshake, using crap I bought from the grocery store, for less than the food costs at Steak N Shake. And if I tried to make myself a comparable meal at home, it would be disgusting, because the burgers you make for yourself at home are disgusting compared to the burgers you can buy from a fast food restaurant. That’s not just true when you’re eight years old. Burgers at fast food restaurants are designed in a laboratory to taste better than anything you could come up with. They also benefit from what’s known in business school(which I’ll have you know I went to) as economies of scale, so they only cost $ 1. Grocery stores don’t even sell meat in $ 1-sized packages. I should know, I looked. A few things I should warn you about at Steak N Shake: 1) Sometimes the drive thru takes forever. I interviewed for a job there once(#fail), and it was explained to me that this is because your food is made fresh to order. But sometimes I notice my food is ready to go before I can even get around to the window. Hmm… 2) They ask you the most difficult question in life. Most fast food restaurants, you just pick which burger you want, and that’s it — as long as you’re not one of these assholes who think they can improve upon millions of dollars worth of R&D by making all sorts of special requests. At Steak N Shake, you pick which burger you want, then they ask you what you want on it. This would be fine, if you could expect most people to have a general idea of what comes on a hamburger and what they usually like on a hamburger. But, alas, you can’t. It must be some lingering effect of the crack era. All those babies are now like 26 years old and subsisting on a steady diet of fast food. All of the burgers at Steak N Shake are more or less the same thing. Some of them they add extra shit like guacamole and chili. You don’t want any of that bullshit. Just get the Double Steakburger with Cheese. Some people will insist that the Frisco Melt is the only thing to get from Steak N Shake. I don’t find that to be true. To me, it tastes too much like a regular ol’ grilled cheese sandwich from an elementary school tray lunch. They should serve it with a side of rancid canned spinach and a mini carton of milk. Whatever you get, it’s the meat that’s the kicker. I find calling it a Steakburger a rather specious claim, because if it was served in actual steak form, it probably wouldn’t worthy of the $ 10 t-bone dinner at Miami Grill, a bit further down Page, towards the ghetto. But it really is a cut above what you get at, say, McDonalds. It’s a wonder they can afford to charge so little for it.

This is probably the most consistently well polished Steak n Shake I’ve been to, both in terms of food, cleanliness, and service. I would actually skip over another Steak n Shake to go to THIS location instead, it’s that much better. One time I wanted to get a guac steakburger but they actually said that their guac is browning and they don’t have a new batch… I can easily imagine any other place just giving me some crap colored guac while hoping that I wouldn’t notice.
