I went tanning at this location last July because I didn’t have much time to be out in the sun and still wanted a summer tan. When I went in I told them that I wanted just a month of unlimited tanning. They took my credit card information and had me sign something, which at the time I thought was a waiver that you always have to sign when you go tanning. After my month was up I stopped going because it was pretty expensive. A couple weeks ago I realized that I had some unusual charges on my credit card that I never use. Come to find out, tan co had signed me up for a monthly membership and were charging me $ 73 a month since July!!! When I called to explained what happened they refused to give me my money back($ 219!!!). They said all they could do was giving me a month of free tanning. No thank you! I agree with the other reviews when they say the customer service is awful.

I first came here with a ‘free 5 tans’ card and quickly learned that it was for the crappy beds so I bought a lotion that let me have a week of free tans in a level 3 bed which got me dark quickly! However, the reason I keep coming back because the customer service here is great. Every staff member is very knowledgable and personable where most other tanning salons are lacking in that field.

I have been a Tan Co member for years. I started at the Hampton location and switched to Clayton after moving. I’ve had nothing, but excellent service from the staff. They appear to be knowledgable of products, tanning options, and current promotions. I’ve never experienced any high pressure sales. The facilities are consistently clean and comfortable with plenty of towels. If a friend wants to tan I always recommend Tan co!

All the employees are friendly and welcoming. Levels 3, 4, and 5 can get you super dark after one session. Lots of variety with lotions.

If the staff here were any more friendly, they’d still be rude, over-bearing, and downright mean. You go in and ask for the cheapest thing they have, and they respond utter deafness. Disregard what you want to do before going in, because you’ll only get to do what they want to do, unless you have 15 minutes to argue with them before being permitted access. I could go on, but the bottom line is this: if you think your business is something earned and to be appreciated, The Tan Company isn’t the place for you. If you like the door-to-door salesman or daily credit card offer technique, well, more power to ya.

just wanted to say i stopped going to this particular tan co a couple yrs back due to the way i was treated, the once over when i walked in and the overall rudeness i felt each time i tanned. i am a hair stylist in clayton & have been doing hair and in the service industry for over 10 yrs, i know how important it is to make people feel comfortable, and its very unpleasant to be on the other side. anyways, got a flier for 10 free tans for my birthday a couple wks back so decided to use them. i was very hesitant to go back but really needed some color so i went for it. the first employee i dealt with was Mariah & she couldnt have been sweeter or more helpful. next girl was equally pleasant and the young guy working lastnight was just a ray of sunshine, ive had a great experience this time around and wanted to give acknowledgement where it was deserved. whoever has been hiring and/or managing keep up the good work your current staff is great. thanks again i will be back,

I went into the Tan Co with a coupon for 5 free tans. Here’s a brief transcript of what transpired. me: I have 5 free tans. Yay! girl working: you do realize they’re for crappy tans only right? me: yep, crappy tans are a-ok with me girl working: but we suggest people use super-expensive beds several times before resorting to crappy beds for«maintenance.» –person working than gives me tour of super-expensive awesome bed that has a massaging mattress(!!) and totally sad crappy bed. me: yeah, but I dig that coffin-like atmosphere. Crappy tan it is! girl working: well if you insist on crappy beds, you need a membership so you can upgrade. Here are several different levels… me: but the crappy beds are free with the coupon right? I WANTTHEFREECRAPPYTAN And so on and so on and so on. Finally, she accepts that I am a lost cause and there only for a free crappy bed tan. I get into the crappy bed, turn it on and nothing happens. So, I get out, get dressed, and go to tell the girl. She comes in and manually turns on the bed. Apparently crappy beds are not even turned on here! The bed is quite meh. There are no facial tanners and it really does look like it came straight out of the 80s as opposed to its rocket-ship like counterparts on the«good» side of the store. I think I’ll stick to Pacific Tan where the level-ones are fairly decent beds. Plus they don’t upsell the hell out of you there. I mean, jeez, if this Tan Co thing doesn’t work out, the girl working could seriously have a bright future with Amway.
