They have alcohol! And great live music! Don’t expect well crafted cocktails, but do expect those cocktails to come with a serious punch. Overall a fun neighborhood hangout.

Quite possibly the worst bar in St. Louis. Bad service, food, and atmosphere. Decent live music, but that’s not enough. To bad, because I need a bar within staggering distance. The bartenders don’t know how to make the most basic drinks and they’re rude. It’s confusing, doesn’t know if it wants to be a community center, hipster hangout, or bar. Sad, really.

Went to see a friend sing, which was great. However, the food — an order of potato wedges + an order of pretzel bites — took almost an hour to come out! And when they did come out, the bites were just room temp, and the potato wedges were okay, but not $ 10 good. Also, it looked like they had a fair amount of beer options, but nothing pumpkin. C’mon. It’s fall, y’all!

Thurman’s is a fun neighborhood bar that’s perfect for boozing and hanging out late… just don’t come hungry. Seriously, if you live in the neighborhood or walking distance it’s perfect. –Late night music –Reasonable prices –Always has a crowd –Closes at 1am «ish» –Friendly staff –A spacious patio! What more do you need?! It’s not quite a dive bar but it could be if it wanted to. It has a decent selection of beer and wine. I grabbed a bite to eat here recently and I wouldn’t recommend getting food. It was below average. Some of their snack/appetizer food might be worth it but the main dishes were pretty bad. However, I’m still going to come back a lot… just not for food.

Not a bad place to grab a drink but it doesn’t really have much to pull you in. The only reason I’ve really gone here is because I lived just up to street, so it was nice to have someplace you could walk to.

Just moved into the area Visited a week ago! I was not impressed with the service at all. I sat outside as the weather was amazing for a night dinner. Waited for several minutes and was not greeted and later to find out ignored by the owner as he seen us waiting. Went inside order a beer and food at the same time. The beer was served in a timely manner and was the only positive about the establishment. I Order a strawberry beer and it was beyond my expectations. Waited over a half an hour for my food to come to find out it was just dropped on the floor and being recooked. I only found this out by going to the bar to speak to the bar tender. I ended up leaving without eating. I really do hope this establishment will work on there customer service skills. I could see this place being the next Sasha wine bar if they step Up their skills!

I don’t know what I was expecting, but my house mate Terry and I placed an order and I picked up the sandwiches for dinner. We lived in the neighborhood for 18 years and had never been here. Terry had a beef Philly and the beef was cut VERY thick. It was good and he said he had enough. I had the something blue burger. I didn’t ask, but I assumed it was with blue cheese. It was actually with blue cheese salad dressing. And it was too small for me for $ 7.50. I won’t be going back there for sandwiches. Maybe I’ll try something else.

Not a very impressive draught beer list. Service was mediocre at best, and the food was over sold. My friend and myself will not be going back.

If you live in the neighborhood, or don’t for that matter, but want to drink with all your friends who live nearby, then Thurman is for you. Eclectic crowd who all seem to know each other in that St. Louis kind of way. Not fancy but certainly not a dive, and can cater to most of your drinking needs. I didn’t try the food, but will certainly take a look next time I am here. Friendly and not overly attentive barstaff. They are perfectly willing to let you be, but make sure you do not want for anything. I happened to be there on a night when there was live music and really enjoyed the added ambiance.

I’m four blocks from this restaurant and am all about supporting local businesses. Food was cold and unappetizing and the service did not merit the 50.00 tab. That being said, I love the patio and would try it again for drinks and live music.

Solid neighborhood bar. Great music, local beers… really a place where everyone knows your name!

Local bar. Close by. Great beer, fun service and an awesome patio. What more could you ask for in a bar? Hoping to go back soon to try some food!

On the night of Saturday, June 22 a couple of friends & I headed to Thurman’s for a drink & a bite. First of all, it was near impossible to get the owner to take our food order. Secondly, he said the order would take 20 minutes. After nearly 40 minutes with absolutely no sign of food or explanation we stepped up to the bar to pay for our drinks & go. He seemed extremely put out & acted angry towards us. Due to our insistence he accepted that we wanted to pay & go. The order came out just as we were paying. We did not want to be rude so we offered to eat & pay. In an awfully rude manner he denied us the food & walked away. I have read the other low-end reviews & it seems that absent vulgar service is common here. I would NOT recommend anyone going… even for a drink. I am writing this review way after the fact because I live in the neighborhood, pass by Thurman’s every day & do not care to be identified.

Awesome little bar tucked away in Tower Grove. Though I didn’t order any food, they have cheap sandwiches, hummus, and salads on their menu. They have baskets of peanuts on the table to give you something to snack on while drinking. They had really good live music on the Friday night I went, and the outdoor patio makes it a great place to enjoy a beer during the summer. Pros: good music on Fridays, cheap beer, outdoor patio Cons: limited food menu

I’d have to say that this place has plenty of potential. With the excellent patio and the decent space inside you would think this place would actually care about getting new customers. However, I have been to Thurman Grill about three times and all the experiences have been bad. The first time I went willingly so I could check out the place before the bike shop that used to be across the street(St. Louis Bicycle Works) opened for the night. I walked in and got the same rude bartender that many of you have already written about. After having one drink I decided to wait outside by the bike store since it was obvious I was not welcome in the bar. I went again to give this place another try when I met up with some friends who were there. Same idiot bartender. Same sad service, only this time, the bartender was obviously drunk and very boisterous with cuss words, stumbling, slow service, and forgetting our orders. The last time I ever went, and the last time I will ever go back was for a campaign party for a politician my friend was supporting, so I decided to stop by. Guess what? Same rude bartender, drunk as a skunk, slow service, forgetting orders… only this time when he forgot our order he tried pawning off a terrible concoction of what he called«candy corn infused vodka». It had candy corn in it. I don’t think this bartender even knows was infused means when it comes to making bitters. The only reason I give it 2 stars instead of 1 is the potential this place will have if it ever goes under new ownership. Look to the future!

You guys are over thinking this place. It is a neighborhood bar. It is not trying to be fancy. It is not trying to be avant garde or classy. It serves as a place for its neighborhood patrons to get a cold drink and maybe a bite to eat on the cheap. The bartender is super nice and very attentive. Drinks are cheap and they have a good selection of beer, wine, and liquor. Don’t expect a drink from a mixologist. Food is just OK, but that’s fine. Don’t go here for a five star meal. Go here to split a decent STL style pizza with some friends over beer. The patio is awesome and very lively. During the colder months they have fires on the patio. On Fridays they have a dude that place the guitar and sings the blues. He rules. Seriously. Don’t over think this, just enjoy it. And when you go to the bathroom make sure to look at the cat photos.

IDK… I sat at the bar with 1 lady for about 10 minutes with no one waiting on me. Finally, the lone man behind the asked if I wanted a draught beer«I am only the cook & that is what I am allowed to serve» OK, it was a Thursday after midnight so I could understand a skeleton crew. Next thing I know is I am the lone person @ the bar… Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy started so I was distracted. Next thing I know a black man that barely would look at me got behind the bar. Then a black couple sat at the bar & ordered a kind of wine & Shock Top beer– they had neither. He offered very loudly a South African wine«We used to hate South Africa till we found out about the wine». Then the male black patron started talking about how bad the neighborhood was. He described heroin addicts and people shooting guns at 7 in the morning… Somehow my bald white self felt like I was being played off as a skinhead or maybe just«county»… IDK. I announced that I had not paid for my Schlafly Pale Ale and was told«$ 3.25». Paid & left. The place has potential. Sidewalk café & a impressive sound board was seen, but not experienced.

This place isn’t bad. My friend and i stopped here to grab food while after purchasing bikes at the bike shop on the corner. I got a cheesburger club and it was rather tasty. My friend’s philly cheesesteak was decent too — albeit it had less meat than i wanted. The owner was nice but service was slow. On the bright side, the food wasn’t too expensive(6 bucks for a sandwich). We were in a slight hurry so I was less than excited. I’d probably drop by again — one day when i have all the time in the world. :)

Short review: If you want to go somewhere w/a nice patio and a long line for drinks, come here, also convenient if you live in the neighborhood. It is what it is. Slightly longer review: I live close-by and my friend and his new band were playing there on a Friday night, so I was looking forward to a leisurely and pleasant evening, which it was… but JAYSIS this place kind of blows. One, no exaggeration, 10 minutes to get a drink– and I was sitting at the bar. The bartender did that thing where they work right in front of you but choose to ignore you, even though you’re holding cash/card with a smile. I understand you’re busy and here’s a quick remedy: say, «I’ll be right with you.» That’s all it takes. On top of that, the bartender(same guy from a few posts down) has got the driest sense of humor, which I can appreciate, but most times he came off as rude. And he was SLOW. The rule of the restaurant business is if you’re busy, then work and move that much faster. I would come back if my friend’s band was playing again, otherwise nah.
