I met Brady somewhat unexpectedly on Saturday. He was delivering mulch to my neighbor, and decided to proactively knock on the doors of the neighbors(including my door) to see if there were others looking for a few cubic yards of mulch. Ground from the bark of white oak at saw mill near his shop, it looked good It’s been a couple of years since I mulched the flower and tree beds, and as my day opened up after soccer games and other scheduled activities had miraculously evaporated in the rain, I took him up on his offer. A decent guy. He cut me a better price as we discussed varying quantities and I explored larger quantities. His estimate for the volume necessary to meet my expectations was a pretty accurate. He took a personal check. And, as we were talking he noted the importance of repeat business — evidenced by his steady customer next door. I like businesses which take a long view, in their business model. In our conversation, I also learned that he does offer the service of installing the mulch — and typically prefers to do that. On this particular day, he was riding solo and only looking to move inventory … and, I was only looking to buy material. So, it worked well. I appreciate his curteous and enterprising approach to business, in conjunction with providing a good product. St Mary is not close to Lake St Louis — so, clearly he travels.
