Loved our pizzas. #11 was bursting with flavor which my taste buds dug. Friendly service, good beers on tap. Only thing lacking was décor, pretty much zero vibe or ambiance here.

We love this place for a number of reasons… the staff is always friendly… the pizza is the best in town… Tonight we saw one of the pizza oven guys(Daniel) who was busy moving pizzas around in the oven… deliver a pizza nearby because the other staff were busy waiting on others. These guys making pizza are always smiling and working hard. We sit at the bar all the time and watch them work… Impressive. One important suggestion… please install an awning across the front of the business so that when the sun is low you don’t have to close out the entire outside world to avoid the strong sunlight that always comes in on sunny late afternoons/early evenings. Sometimes when we walk by it’s hard to tell whether they are open or not, because the sun blinds completely close out the view inside… We live nearby and have lots of choices but when we want pizza we prefer to come here as everyone is always fun to be around…

I love pizza… and black sheep pizza is really really incredible. I didn’t give it 5 stars because I feel like they struggle to put enough cheese on the pizzas sometimes, even when I ask for extra cheese. It’s not every time, so I guess it just depends on who is making the pizza. Would definitely recommend black sheep to anyone! We usually call in and pick up the pizza. Great service.

For those that don’t review a 4-star review means, «Yay! I’m a fan.» I went to the Saint Paul location. It is in a clean area of downtown. The atmosphere is laid back. Not too much going on as far as décor. It is a simple-sleek-open layout. We belly-upped to the bar. The beer is all tap with a good selection(maybe seven, and root beer). At the bar you have a clear look at the oven and the pizza chefs. The service was excellent. We were greeted immediately and asked many times if we needed anything. They gave us a time of 11 minutes before the pizza was served and they were right on time. One employee, that wasn’t our server, came up and asked us if everything was good. Upon leaving us, he said, «if you need anything during your time here, just flag me down.» Now, we had two people that were making sure our experience was top-notch. There is no limitation as far as making one pizza half of one type and half of another. I like that feature a lot. It allows you to order a pizza you know you would like with a pizza you might like for the price of one. We went with half #4 and half #11. You can tell the pizza was created by a chef. This isn’t your normal pizza: it isn’t covered with cheese, the crust is thin, and it doesn’t feel like you are preparing yourself for a heart attack. It is balanced and packed with flavor. The way they make pizza, allows the ingredients to be the star of the show. Every bite is a little different; which, makes you want to come back for another bite or slice. The healthy light feel of the pizza makes you comfortable doing so. If you are craving some greasy unhealthy pizza, this isn’t the place for you; however, if you are looking for something new and refreshing get over to Black Sheep Pizza.

My fiancée and I came here after a long day of wedding planning. It was close to the hotel so we thought why not try it. The servers were attentive but not bothersome. The pizza was perfect! Crispy but not burnt like some fired pizzas can be. Both of us loved our 12 inch pizzas and would recommend this place. We will definitely be back :)

Always wanted to try this place and finally got the opportunity when I found myself downtown St. Paul. Surprisingly I found a place to park on the street. Cost me $ 2 but I was just happy I could park around the block from this place. As I walking in the door I noticed another place I had on my list to visit, Keys Café-St. Paul — that is another day! This place is sunken below street level which makes for interesting people watching. The coal fire oven is within sight behind the bar. Restrooms are interesting. «go though door, turn right, go through door, turn right, go through door and turn left. If you turn right you are in Keys! I was tempted to drop breadcrumbs but it was easy finding my way back. Waiter was prompt and order taken fast. Pizza under 15 minutes. Not bad. Delivered hot and it was delicious. Thin crust with plenty of toppings. We kept it simple and ordered fennel sausage and peperoni. Very good. The place was empty for lunchtime? Noice level was perfect for my conversation with my son.

The service was great! We had five small children with us. We had four different pies. All were fantastic. Very nice beer and wine selection as well. Definitely worth the money.

I’ve been to Black Sheep and I’m a fan of the pizza. The restaurant itself I could take or leave — it’s dark, modern… reminds me of the cold environs of many Chipotle’s. I prefer warm surroundings, rather than cold metallic ones. The coal-fired pizza is terrific. It’s thin and pliable with that nice burn(not burnt) and bubble that can only come with such high heat. I’d recommend not overloading your pizza with a lot of toppings; it’s better with fewer. The cheese, the pepperoni, the sausage are all good. There pizza has just enough of everything — the sauce, the cheese, the toppings. Not too much. As a result, the pizza is flavorful and tasty, a real treat. If I lived closer I’d order it more.

3.5 stars from me. The good: They have really good choices for toppings. I love anchovies but don’t often order them on my pizza because I only like really good anchovies. These were really good. They are also really generous with toppings. The pizzas are loaded. The roasted olive appetizer was also good. Good choices for beer on tap. Our waiter was really nice. The meh: The crust wasn’t anything special. Both husband I thought it lacked salt. The sauce also wasn’t anything special — not good or bad. Our pizza came out right after our appetizer so the timing was a little off which was a bit frustrating. We ended up sitting at the bar. I know this is fine or even a plus for most people. But for me it’s hard because I’m short. Those tall chairs at the bar are often a challenge for me! It was the only thing available though because most of the restaurant was booked for a private event. In general, it wasn’t a bad experience, we had a good time. But it’s not going to the top of my pizza list.

Solid pizza! Was surprised by some of the less favorable reviews on here. Interesting toppings to choose from with all the classics available to build your own as well. My favorite was the meatball and ricotta. The meatballs were homemade and very good and ricotta on pizza, yes please! I like their crust as well, thin but not too thin and cooked just right. The eggplant dip was unexpectedly delicious, try it! Service was excellent as well, they forgot olives on one of our pizzas and brought out an entire new pizza with olives on it.

If you’re in the mood for a less than typical tasting pizza, head to Black Sheep Pizza. This place offers on-trend pizzas — not just the usual pepperoni and cheese(in fact, I’m not sure if you can even get those here?). The prices are in the range as any other«trendy» pizza place in the metro, not cheap but not break-the-bank, since it is still a pizza joint. The ingredients involved in the pizzas always taste fresh and are high quality. The slices are extremely full of flavor, to the point of sometimes being a bit overwhelming honestly. And they offer some delicious small plates/appetizers and a nice beer tap selection. The service isn’t bad; although, t’s not remarkably good either. It’s fairly on par with other«trendier» joints — efficient considering how busy it is, but not personable. I get it, it’s busy — but it doesn’t kill anyone to smile. Speaking of busy, it’s ridiculously busy. Both times I’ve gone in, it has been CRAZY. But that’s to be expected, right? They deliver to Tin Whiskers just up/around the block from them, which is really nice. They were prompt, hot and fresh when they delivered to me there.

Delicious, enough said. If you love pizza then stop here. Wonderful tasty crust cooked just right with fresh fabulous toppings. Service is attentive, friendly and efficient. Open until 11 p.m. so you can stop by after the Wild Game — we did.

I have never been to Black Sheep restaurant, but my job always orders this pizza for conferences and luncheons and it’s very good. They are also very accommodating to special diets and they deliver. I am hoping to actually go to Black Sheep soon to see what the restaurant is like and try their other menu items.

ehhh… I was not impressed. There was literally nothing on the menu that sounded good. I caved and ordered something. Like I suspected it was the exact opposite of editable. The bread/crust was burnt to a crisp, the motz was greasy, my guess is that they were using a cheep cheese that oils out like crazy. The beer and wine selection was also awkward. Local beers okay, random beers weird, and a wine selection like they went to Kroger and picked out random items.

Bit of a wait at this popular pizza spot in St. Paul. We had some drinks at the bar and ordered an app. The Olives Roasted with Rosemary & Garlic was OK, but we had to ask for more bread. We ordered the meatball pizza per my sisters rec, and the #7 Mushroom pizza which I saw on «The Best Thing I Ever Ate.» They were both good, and I would go back here, but they cannot beat pizzerias in Boston.

A recent second visit confirms that yes, in fact, I AM a fan of this place — what I’ll continue calling«Black Scribble Pizza». This time, we had time to linger a bit instead of eating a quick pizza and then hurrying to our next adventure. For this more leisurely dinner, we ordered one of their chopped salads and a 12″ Oyster mushroom, garlic and rosemary pizza. The chopped salad was so very tasty with its mix of ingredients and tangy-tart dressing. I see the point of finely slicing nearly everything on the salad; however, it would be so much easier eating the«ribbons» of salad with my fingers. Using a fork, however, a bit larger shred or chop of ingredients would be better. The mushroom pizza was great in its taste, texture and quantity. I’ll look forward to going b a a a a ck to Black Scribble Pizza soon.

Don’t go on a Saturday evening. The place is crowded and hot(do they even have AC?). Waitstaff will pass you by with hot pizzas overhead over and over again. Luckily it wasnt too hot and humid so we sat outside… then waited… and waited. I noticed others were being taken care of even though they arrived after us. Finally we were attended to and the pizzas came out with not too long of a wait. Three stars are for the brick oven tasty pizza… that is all.

Outstanding pizza. The #4 is my favorite, homemade meatballs, ricotta cheese, and garlic. Perfect amount of sauce, perfect amount of sauce. Perfect everything. Nice casual warm atmosphere. Friendly servers and staff. Perfect place for a pre a Wild game dinner, or really any excuse to have outstanding pizza!

Super cute place and delicious pizza. I got the #9 — tomatoes, green pepper and kalamata olives. The kalamata olives are no joke! Huge, meaty olives sliced in half and then fire roasted to be goodness in your mouth. And I’m not even a huge fan of olives! It’s super important for me to get in and out of a place for lunch quickly. I think from start to finish I spent half an hour at Black Sheep which was perfect! Servers didn’t rush me, I was just in a hurry.

I was disgruntled for a little while after I missed a Unilocal event that featured complimentary Black Sheep pizza. And then I got off my lazy ass and went there myself, duh. I was in a rush to pickup a takeout order and get home at a certain time, so I timed the exact minute I’d call in, because my world often revolves around conveniently timed pizza. I ordered a 16″ that was half meatball, ricotta, garlic(for me) and half spicy salami, onion, green peppers(for my boyfriend). If it was just me, I was inclined to order the«#5», but my boyfriend hates olives, hence the customized order. Hence my disappointment when I opened the box and saw that they had put green olives instead of green peppers on his half. Luckily, I was still in the building. I actually opened it on site because I thought if I didn’t inhale the pizza fumes immediately I’d go mad. So I was pretty bummed and pointed out the mistake. The host was very apologetic and suggested they make a new one, but I didn’t have the time. So he grabbed the manager. She came out, and was super cool and funny. She cracked me up and comp’ed my whole pizza! I was super grateful. Well, more so because I am not the one who hates olives. It was a little inconvenient once I got home but the good far outweighed the bad. The pizza itself was so delicious. I personally loved the olives — they were very herb-y, perhaps rosemary infused? Friggin yum. They were generous with the toppings and every aspect was tasty as hell. Maybe could have used a little more sauce(so the flavor could shine!) but I think that’s just the style so whatevs, down the gullet it goes. So thank you, Black Sheep, for superb(retro-active service) and a delicious carb/cheese/meatfest.
