After seeing this place advertised on the Jason show with Harry Connick Junior, I decided to try it with my boyfriend after his softball game, I wanted to try someplace new since we usually go out to eat in uptown, and I really wanted to try the gumbo since I have been to New Orleans before and I really love that kind of food, anyway we were seated outside and it was a Friday evening, everything was going great until the waitress asked us what we wanted to drink and my boyfriend asked how much was it for a surly beer and she seemed irritated that he asked how much it cost, and she said she didn’t know and so then when she found out we only wanted to order, each of us a bowl of gumbo she seemed irritated by that as well, maybe thinking we weren’t spending enough money or something I don’t know after that the whole thing was downhill, didn’t feel like we were treated that good at all and the gumbo was pretty bland. The server was acting pretty snooty with us, and I didn’t like that at all.

What happened to this place? All my favorites are gone off the menu, drinks are expensive and weak and the atmosphere has totally cheapened. I am bummed!

Please update your explore the menu! The menu has been updated. I came to the restaurant in the hopes of everything I saw on the menu and when we came in their menu was completely different. I was excited to enjoy my dinner until I sat down. Now I have to leave with a hungry stomach. Very small menu, with very limited choices.

Sunday brunch disappointment. I’m still wondering what in the hell they did to the cheese grits. The food was mediocre, at best. The service was great, though. I liked our waitress, who was friendly and efficient.

This place was definitely a five-star experience. The Southern comfort food and everything else they offer, the hospitality, the amazing old-fashioned drink was a 10+. They use the highest quality cherries and that makes the drink.

Seems everywhere you go in the twin cities, Southern food is all the rage — clearly its the food du jour. Dixies is one of the originals in the area that’s been serving southern and Cajun food for years. They’ve got all the basics covered from Po’ Boys to Jambalaya to Fried Chicken but they don’t have the trendy vibe that some of the newer spots are sporting. There food is good and on the afternoon we visited, the service was decent. We were there around 4 for a really late lunch(or early dinner, can’t decide which). I had a salad with chicken and my friend a shrimp Po’ Boy. Food was good and we sat outside on the good sized patio. Not sure I’d go out of my way to eat here again since I live on the west side of town, but the prices and quality are fine. Nothing spectacular here, just good solid chow with a nice setting on the far end of Grand Ave.

I really wanted to like this place but the gumbo that I got tasted like tar. I haven’t been back. Beautiful location and its liked by many so I would give it another try.

So disappointing — not only have they changed the menu and removed several of our favorites, the meal was gross with mushy fish barely blackened. They have gotten rid of the biscuits before dinner as well. The manager seems to think his chef knows more about good food than the customers as well. Would not recommend this place and it used to be one of our favorites.

Made the mistake of going to Dixie’s tonight for dinner. The menu has drastically changed, with fewer items, many way overpriced. I have been a loyal patron for more than 25 years and this will be the last time dining at Dixie’s. The«double» pork chop was small and not worth the $ 20 price tag. We had to wait almost 30 minutes for the order and when it arrived, it was a small chop with two small tines on the ends. The Cajun pork chop was small, covered with some kind of bourbon BBQ sauce, and coated with fried onions(?). The double chop used to be two good sized grilled Cajun chops with Cajun spices and nice grill marks on both sides, Also off the menu are the chop/rib combo, etoufee, jambalaya, Cajun chicken breast, dixies Cajun nachos, and many other standard items. Decided to not eat this entrée and the waitress asked the owner to stop by the table. The owner was a bit condescending and did not appear to want to listen to my comments. This was especially disappointing as I have been going to Dixie’s for over 25 years now. I will not be going back. For those new to Dixie’s, you may not notice the negative changes that have been made at the restaurant(menu, décor, overall atmosphere). For those who went to Dixie’s in the past, you will see that this place is NOT the neighborhood hangout that it used to be that had great service and food options and a good value for your hard earned money. Give this a pass and patronize other restaurants in the Summit Hill and Grand Avenue neighborhoods instead.

Dang! I used to love this place. No chicken fried steak. The ribs were dry as &$! Mashed potatoes and walleye bites were bomb. Service marginal. Get it back, guys!

Overall, a-ok…good but not great. Tried brunch and the southern fried chicken after Citypages highlighted the chicken here. Brunch is standard fare, well prepared and I like how they don’t over cook their scrambled eggs. Fried chicken comes with collared greens, which are good. Chicken is standard fare, nothing memorable stands out. I had to add some Tabasco sauce to give it better flavor.

My friend had a meeting/brunch so we were in for their $ 25 brunch + mimosa. My friend knew had I special dietary requests(not allergies but choices that align with what I consider ethical) and the staff went WAY out of the way to cater to my preferences. I’ve eaten out a lot and I’ve never had as good of service concerning this matter(I usually just find something I can eat on the menu and don’t ask unless I’m not sure about an ingredient). I felt very special. I appreciated it so much. Also what they came up with was DELICIOUS. I could have sucked it up and eaten fruit but since it was a buffet I doubt it would have been worth $ 25 without their intervention. Pretty cool of them.

There for New Year’s brunch. Food and service was phenomenal! Biscuits and gravy, fried chicken, red beans and rice, jambalaya were all very good. Their scrambled eggs were right up there with the best I’ve ever had. Bacon was delicious — but then almost all bacon is delicious. Cinnamon rolls were amazing. Will be going back — soon!

My husband and I stopped in for a late lunch this week and enjoyed a decent meal. Finding fried green tomatos in late October in MN is always a challenge. They were good! I also enjoyed my generous bowl of gumbo. My husband was a little disappointed with his burger, which he thought was small and over-priced, and the cornbread wasn’t anything exciting, but the collard greens had a good flavor. Our servicer was excellent, and the atmosphere was great. I smiled every time the train circled around.

Parking is a pain during dinner hour. The Carolina Crab soup is wonderful. Should have ordered the bowl instead of the cup. The soup needed a cracker or bread roll. … Soup is done and the server just showed up with buttermilk biscuits. It’s all in the timing people. My GF and I both had The Stack BBQ pulled pork sandwich with cabbage and onion. WOW! That’s more food that one human can possibly eat. It was smokey, spicy and and tad sweet! This is good BBQ! I had the cornbread for a side item. I should have chose something else. It was dense, dry and flavorless. Oh! And not even warm enough to melt butter on it. We should go back and try again, there are other items here that I want to try.

I went here recently after missing yoga because Grand/Summit is a mess of construction… so I went into it crabby. Nothing a good patio and bloody can’t fix though! The patio seating was perfect, super cozy with the fireplace and foliage. The build your own bloody bar was good. My blackened catfish po’ boy though was absolutely amazing! I will be back just for that! I knocked down a star because the service wasn’t great, she was very nice, just unavailable and slow to return with anything(order, check, etc.). Not a huge deal since I wasn’t in a hurry and always have a book with me, but good service is still mandatory for any 5 star review in my mind.

Dixie’s ended up being the perfect spot for my sister-in-law’s birthday brunch. Highlights of the meal were the crab soup, eggs benedict, and mimosas. The crab soup at Dixie’s is creamy and loaded with sweet chunks of soft-shell crab meat. My sister-in-law is a seafood bisque lover and she rates the crab soup at Dixies as the ‘best she’s ever had.’ Everyone tried it. Everyone loved it – although only my sister-in-law ate three bowls. The Eggs Benedict at Dixie’s is ‘made to order’ which guarantees a soft yolk and a crisp english muffin. It’s only a half order(one egg) so you’ll want to order a few of them at a time. However, they’re worth the wait. Customers seeking an spicy cajun buffet are likely to be disappointed since the buffet items are toned down for midwest family palates. I brought a family of six(age 12 and up) and nearly everyone had a favorite from the buffet — fried chicken, jambalaya, mini pancakes, waffles and southern-inspired desserts such as pecan pie, key lime pie, red velvet cake and bread pudding. Even the cheese grits were a hit. Missing from the buffet? Biscuits & gravy. Sausage. Hash browns. An-upscale hash. A creative take on Eggs Benedict leveraging crab, sausage, or southern spice. Brunch includes the beverages(soda or coffee, not orange juice) and the first mimosa for adults. Additional mimosas for .50 each. By drinking a few of these, it’s not hard to offset the otherwise-hefty $ 25-per person brunch price tag. The server was sweet and attentive.

Met four friends for breakfast on Saturday. Surprised at how little people were there for breakfast. I had only been there one another time and it was for drinks. Nice space; I enjoyed watching the little train go ’round. Service was good and she was patient with us while we took our time ordering. The only issue I had was that my credit card was charged the wrong amount even after we had all written our names by our tickets. Oh well, not worth getting a few bucks back and I think she had left by the time we were done. Food Orders: Two Hangovers Two create your own combos One Southern Drawl– Came with grits which I passed on. Not a fan of the texture. The sandwich was pretty good. Avocado, fried green tomato and egg. It was prretty good. BYOB bar was good: Lots of choices and garnish to choose from. — Pickles & Olives — Jerkey –Okra –Celery –Cheese –Salami –Horseradish etc… A big PLUS that there is parking lot.
