We just found our new but old school style Chinese takeout. Portion are huge enough to share and food is lava-like hot. Our waitress has been here 25+ years and was very knowledgeable about the menu.

Only tried the veg fried rice but it was some of the best I’ve found in the cites so far!

These people have been in business for 28 years so they must be doing something right. Interior is your typical Chinese take out look: old, deserted, but with the distinct feeling that they’re frantically whipping up phoned in to-go orders in the back. The woman working the register may come across as bold or harsh at first, but get to talking with her and you’ll see she’s actually very friendly. So far I’ve really only had the fried rice and wontons, which are delicious, but I’m sure I’ll be back again and again to try more.

It all went into the trash. Fried Shrimp — awful. fried wontons — awful, fried rice, greasy, egg foo yong, not good, chow mein, soupy and chicken not good. Paid $ 47, all thrown out. Very disappointing. Don’t waste your money.

We have ordered last minute take out from Golden Chow Mein over the years. However they have gotten greasier and greasier. Today we had very soggy and greasy beef and peapods. Really truly terrible.

Chow mein, pork fried rice, egg roll combo for under $ 10. Bland as hell.

This is a great place for Chinese take out. It’s not the closest 5 star Chinese to my house So I don’t get here as often as I used to. But when I think of it, I never regret it. The owner is great, She always remembers me and asks why it’s been so long.

Very good and the price is right(though the dine in price is a little higher than the take away price). Egg rolls were good but not great. Fried rice on the other hand was much better than so many places, not just white rice drowned in soy sauce. Nice little chunks of meat and egg. Had the first decent chow mien in years, not tasting like it came out of a can. Worth the stop if your hungry and in the neighborhood.

It’s so hard to find good won ton soup and these guys have it!!! Hip hip hooray. Since Unilocal is saying my review is short, guess I’ll tell ya my whole life story… Bought two eggrolls, 8 cream cheese filled fried won tons, a crapload of shrimp lo mein and a bowl of won ton soup for $ 26. No need to go grocery shopping for the rest of the week in my opinion. And the lady at the counter was amicable as all get out; especially due to the fact she was handling a phone that was ringing off the hook, while simultaneously coaching a new server and dealing with unruly guests. I should’ve tipped her more, but I’ll sure as hell be back soon!

New to the area and looking for a good take out place. It is really good and the lady answering the phone and taking orders is a riot, very funny. I ordered sesame chicken, it was pretty good but not the«best» I’ve ever had.

I ordered take out, a little bit of a wait but so worth it! Delicious vegetable fried rice & sweet and sour chicken. I would not recommend the broccoli chicken. There was more broccoli than chicken! Otherwise, very good & definitely ordering take out again! Order 20 minutes before you want your take out.

We live right behind it and it’s always consistent and accurate. The owner is a character and interacting with her is great! Love it!

The food is excellent and comes at a great price. This is my go-to restaurant in this neighborhood. The menu has a enough to choose from without being overwhelming. Portions are generous so order a few things to share. Service is very prompt. Seating inside accommodates parties of 4, but there have always been plenty of available tables in case your group is bigger.

Solid place. Just happened to be driving down W. 7th. Hole in the wall, but definitely not a dive, very clean, and not dark and dank. I tried a lunch special Egg foo young, eggroll, and fried rice. The eggroll seemed to have the generic thick wrap, but nothing about the stuffing was generic, loaded with meat not cabbage fillers. Fried rice wasn’t the usual bland junk that’s served with a combo. This was heavy on the chicken and egg. Egg foo was a generous patty with a delicate sauce on top. Friendly owner, and the price is right. Great take out or eat in local neighborhood, Chinese go to. Lots of regulars seem very happy to be there.

Cream Cheese Wontons: You get 8 of them for $ 4 — not the greatest deal I’ve ever seen, but still not bad. They were definitely made to order and were delightfully crispy. Pork & Broccoli: Had a bit of a fishy smell to it and there were more random vegetables than broccoli. I think I’ll go with Beef & Broccoli next time. Chicken Fried Rice: Not bad — probably the best of the three things I ordered. Good flavor, larger bits of egg than you’d usually see in fried rice, and a decent amount of chicken. Bottom line? Fast, friendly service and decent food for a decent price. I’ll be ordering from here again!

This little neighborhood gem has been dishing up respectable Chinese food for longer than I’ve lived in the area(and that’s 13 years). Food is always made fresh and served hot. I have always ordered it to go. The menu is «typical» American Chinese restaurant fare. Prices are reasonable and portions are VERY generous. When I need a quick fix, this is my go-to place.

On our second visit, we walked in the door at 7:50 and found the owner mopping the floor and a completely empty restaurant. Only then did we realize it was 10 minutes from closing. But the owner ushered us in and served us, offering excellent service and chatting with us about food and the restaurant. We really appreciated her staying open late for us, and the food was delicious again. We got a dish with pan fried noodles this time and it was fabulous. Plus egg rolls, of course.

Listen up people: When it comes to Chinese food, I’ve become something of a snob. And I have every right to be. You see, I’ve tried ‘em all, from the little storefront chow meineries serving the Star of the North Chow Mein, AKA Green Glop, to the purportedly wondrous(and overpriced) eateries on the big side of town. Golden is, well, GOLDEN!!! Best Egg rolls in The Twin Cities, as voted by me and mah peeps. Crispy, beautiful, non-greasy, deep-fried to perfections logs of deliciosity. None of the run-of-the-mill overly cabagged variety here, oh no. Golden’s egg rolls are worthy of their own hipsterville food truck. Other offerings with pizazz: The Ding(Ring-A-DING-DING!) Seriously good. The curry potato chicken dish, with peanuts thrown in. The beef low mein. The loaded fried rice. The egg foo yung. And, in a nod to Paula Deen, Southern Fried Chicken and fried pataters!!! All delicious. A Mom & Pop Shop, the hubby is in back doing the cooking(and what a cook he is), while the wife takes orders and barks them into the kitchen! It’s like being part of Tony & Tina’s Wedding, for connubial sakes, without the bliss! The restaurant is on the corner of West 7th Street, about two miles west of downtown, in an old corner building that used to be a doctor’s office back when people dealt with depression by drinking beer at one of the neighborhood’s umpteen saloons, something the West Enders still do – by the gallons… but they use it wash down this awesome and inexpensive food. Bring some extra home for Grandma, or she’ll lock you out of her porch! Parking is street, ‘hood is blue collar with a few recent transplants from Methville, but don’t worry, Golden closes at 8, and you’re in a safe spot. Yearning for the perfect hangover remedy? Call Golden!(651)228−1276…you know I have!!! Or pick some up for work. The sizable portions go a long way, and the leftovers are delish.

I live near this place and my friend said this place has good food. I have to disagree. The place is a little on the dirty side. There isn’t a lot of parking available. The food was over priced based on what I got. The service made me feel a little uneasy. The lady that works there has a lackluster attitude towards customers based on what I saw from others ordering and the phone orders she took while I waited for my food. Bottom line, you can try it. You may like it better than I did. I just think there must be better here in Saint Paul or I am just gonna take this type of food off my options list. I know I won’t be going back. There is better Chinese Food out there because I have had it-just not here yet.

One of my fave«cheap eats». The food is very good and as Mark H says in an earlier review, very reasonably priced. The pork fried rice is pretty tasty. They use the BBQ pork, not the cheapie food service pork-roll stuff from a deli counter. Sometimes it verges on being a little greasy, but I’m willing to overlook that on busy nights. The egg rolls are quite good too. I used to tell friends that my favorite chow mein was Hope’s Chow Mein in Richfield, but it’s too long of a drive to Hope’s, so my new favorite is Golden Chow Mein — and they’re just down the hill. Try the made-to-order Special Chicken Chow Mein, and I think you’ll be a fan too. If you call ahead, your food is almost always ready in ten minutes or so. If you choose to walk in and order take out, you’ll never wait long. There’s always an open table if you choose to dine in. Go, I implore you to put some fun back into your inexpensive Chinese dining! The owner at the counter is one of my favorite proprietors in the Cities. She’s very friendly, talkative, very funny, and always wants to know why you haven’t been in more often. Be prepared to be assaulted by a friendly, «You call!?» when you walk in the door.
