After reading all the reviews, I had high hopes for Hometown Creamery. And don’t get me wrong, it’s pretty good ice cream but there were a few quirks that contribute to the mediocre review. First, the place. HTC makes its home in what seems to be an abandoned strip mall. When you walk inside, you find a space lightly decorated with cows and not much else. There’s no outdoor seating(come on! we want to eat our ice cream outside) and the inside had ice cream condiments scattered behind the counter and dare I say, it seemed a bit dirty. Next, the selection. HTC has a good selection of flavors– both traditional and more creative. However, the day I visited, there were about three flavors that they were out of and they weren’t well labelled. I ended up ordering two scoops(raspberry truffle cheesecake and Mississippi Mud) topped with hot fudge at a cost of $ 4 and some change. The young man behind the counter, put his cell phone down and filled my order by scooping two regular sized scoops into a cup and then piling on waterfalls of hot fudge. I’m not kidding when I tell you that there was more fudge than ice cream in the bowl by the time he was done crafting this insane concoction. With sooooo much fudge, I found myself in search of a treasure below the surface, the creamy ice cream. When I did find the ice cream. It was mediocre. Smooth and flavorful but nothing special in my mind.

I read so much about their great ice cream and I was really looking forward to trying it. However, I was totally disgusted by the lack of cleanliness and filth. The floor was sticky too and DIRTY! I’m sure the ice cream is great, but my health is more important.

We have come to the store three times in the last 6 weeks during their advertised open times. Each time we found them to be closed. The latest time we even called first about an hour and a half before we planned to stop by. We were told they were open until 8pm. We arrived at 6 pm to find the doors locked and the lights out. Closed again. This is the last time we will attempt to give them our business.

Went here based on reviews. They don’t have as big of a selection as ppl are saying. The ice cream is decent, I wouldn’t say amazing. Unilocal menu said they had pistachio which is why I went. didn’t have it. The inside is very old and dirty. Don’t think I would come again.

This was by far the most disgustingly dirty eating establishment I have ever stepped foot in. Right away, I noticed the floor looked like it hadn’t been washed in weeks. As I waited to be helped, I was overwhelmed by the uncleanliness of EVERYTHING – the glass case housing the ice cream, the shake mixing machine, the back counters, the walls, the tables, all the cluttery knickknacks – EVERYTHINGWASFILTHY! When I found out they make their own ice cream in-house, I was even more grossed out. I can’t imagine what the behind-the-scenes work environment looks like. I talked myself into staying because I wanted ice cream so badly. The ice cream was fine, but I will NEVEREVER go back. As I walked out the door, it was so filled with grime, I didn’t even want to touch it. YUCK!

I give them 5 stars for their ice cream because it is AMAZING! So many different flavors and all made right there on site.

DELICIOUS homemade ice cream. Get something that has their award-winning vanilla, chocolate or strawberry as it’s base, so you can really enjoy the quality of the ice cream. Friendly staff. Free samples for those of us who are indecisive. Sure, the place could use a little more ambiance, but I won’t hold that against them when their ice cream is so darn good!

We really like the ice cream and the prices. Unfortunately last time we went in the store was pretty dirty(random stuff sitting out, dirty floors, etc.) and the employee was sitting at a table watching t.v. He got up quickly and was helpful, but I’m not sure why more care isn’t put into cleaning. And the tables out front are just totally falling apart.

No frozen yogurt =(but the ice cream was delicious. The environment and the overall look inside the place is pretty trashy looking to be honest. It kinda looks like their doing renovations to the place. But the ice cream is good cookies and cream gotta love it.

Never do I want to eat Kemps or Blue Bunny again! This is where it’s at. I had the cookie dough ice cream and a single scoop size was very generous. I like the cow theme, community feel, and the coziness of the place.

This place is great! I highly recommend the Heavenly Hash if you’re into chocolate. They also have a PMS Sundae if you’re in need. :) Personally, I think it tastes as good as any you would get at Sebastian Joes, the GOC, or Izzys, but it’s half the price. 2 huge cones set me back less than $ 6. Bonus: NO line around the block! Go today and keep good ice cream on our side of town!

So lets be real here. I’m a big fan of ice cream. It’s kind of a big deal. I’m like the Unilocal ice cream connaisseur. And I can’t spell that word. But I know my ice cream. If you are looking for organic, specialty, single-batch, locally sourced, dairy-free soy frozen yogurt… Go away. Go to one of those frou-frou ice cream shops with $ 500 art on the walls available for purchase and carpeted flooring and pay $ 5 for your single scoop of ice cream in a dish. However, if you’re looking for the ice cream experience you had as a child, step right up folks. This place is the closest venue I’ve found in the TC area that matches my favorite hometown ice cream shop. It isn’t decorated in fancy art, there is no carpet, and the people working behind the counter aren’t snobs. In fact, they’re incredibly nice! And patient! And they’ll give you as many free tasting scoops as you’d like while you’re deciding what flavor to hedge your bets on. There is both indoor and outdoor seating available, which is another bonus. This place seems like the kind of shop that has been around for ages, is populated by all of the local townsfolk, and doesn’t plan on changing. They are pretty big into the local events and do a lot of food drives and community outreach/support, which is also pretty cool. So if you want some ice cream(especially SUPERMANFLAVOR) from some really nice folks without all of the frou-frou artsy see-and-be-seen frills for a decent price, I better be seeing you here. And save me some superman ice cream. If you haven’t had this, you’re surely missing out.
