Hey man — if I can get a Summit, sit outside in a lovely park and listen to live music — — life is good.

Most definitely one of the top reasons I love love living in Lowertown! I look forward to Thursday nights and Music in the Park. I have no words to explain how lovely it is to just walk out the door and have the park right there in front of me!!! I can not list all the great bands that played this past summer but you can check them out next Summer online. To me, it doesn’t matter who is playing because I love the fun of Thursday nights in the Park. Summit has a tent so you can get beer and wine, Heartland sells homemade Brats and buns and there are also other eats around. Its a great time to mingle with the community or your friends. I like to bring a blanket and chill, drink some beers or wine and stay and watch the movie afterwards. YES, once the music stops, they play a movie on a big screen in the park… ALLFORFREE! Come on down next Summer on Thursday nights. You will like it too!

There are several reason why my wife and I enjoy living in downtown St. Paul. We can walk to tons of restaurants and bars, the farmers market is out our backdoor, and the river is just a couple blocks away. Another great advantage to living downtown are the free events that happen all summer long. One of these free events is Music in Mears. Every Thursday night, from the beginning of June until the end of August, there are great bands rocking out in Mears Park. Seriously. No good, but great bands. Not a bunch of bands that are begging for a gig, but solid, established bands that anyone can enjoy for free. Here are just of the few bands you could see this summer: The Idle Hands, The PipJazz Experience, Flamin Oh’s, New Standards, Charlie Parr, The Honeydogs, and Communist Daughter. These are just some of the headliners. Almost every week they have three bands in the lineup. You can spend the entire evening in the park listening to music and enjoying food and beverages. Every week there is Summit beer and wine on sale for $ 5 a glass(good event price), and local restaurants set up tents and sell grub to keep the masses fed. Good music, yummy food, and tasty beer. What more could you ask for? Not much, but just in case you’re not satisfied they like to cap the night off with a movie. That’s right, end the night watching a movie under the stars. Sounds like a pretty solid evening. Especially for a Thursday night.

The perfect evening. Grab your lawn chair, hang out with friends, listen to great music and snack on food from local restaurants. This is urban living at it’s best!

I can’t think of anything I’d rather do on gorgeous Thursday evenings throughout the summer than laze about in Mears Park with a picnic and my friends while listening to local music — live and for free. The line-up each year gets better and better. And an extra bonus this year — they’re now showing movies in the park after the music wraps up.
