Typical run down college bar. Went here on Thursday night’s a few too many times and the music is top 40, drinks are dull, and a few too many underage St. Thomas students who snuck by. Never had the food, would never try. And may never be back again. Also, what’s up with them not letting Asians in.

Great neighborhood place… yes can get a little college kid crazy on thur /sat nights but all other nights of the week are great. Bobby on Tuesday and Friday nights is great… and weekend days are also a good time.

It’s hard to get in if you’re Asian(they’ll tell you to go to another bar), so don’t forget to go with your white friend. Pretty sure the food is crappy, too. Wouldn’t want eat it anyway cos who knows what they’ll do to the food if they know you’re Asian :/

I don’t know about the food, as they refuse to serve Asians. We’re told to go next door to play darts at a bar that doesn’t have any, and no ID is needed to make this determination. St. Paul has some great Asian restaurants, so I’m not really torn up inside if I don’t visit the racist bar. #thanksnothanks

When Plums first opened it was a clean classy place which attracted a wide range of people both the locals and the kids from the nearby colleges. Sadly since those days it has fallen into disrepair and it is filthy. The service is terrible. The last time inside I said the same to myself: the owner does not care. Please sell it to someone who does care. Its current presence affects the neighborhood – brings everything down. Go to The Nook for an example of a great bar!

good times… Check out the music on Sunday nights. You might be very surprised. It’s a STP staple dive bar. Watch out for Thursday and Saturday nights as the college kids take over. Go see Bobby on Tuesday nights and Friday nights and you’ll find 30 to 50 somethings, good conversation and soul music playing on the jukebox.

Ok people lets call a spade a spade here. This place is a St. Thomas bar. There’s people 5 to 7 years my minor«checking» my ID at the door, there’s hair gel, polo shirts, high heels and cleavage everywhere. But it is what it is. Not a bad place unless a broskie has had too many and gets froggy, which isn’t often and for the most part it’s pretty tame. It’s not necessarily my first choice, but it’s a familiar place for me so I’ve been there a number of times throughout my 21+ life. If you can’t handle the hair gel and high heels then you might be better off going for lunch on a Wednesday rather than a Saturday night at 10.

The food here is all right, there are some items on the menu that’s are legitimately good. But there are other items that are horrible, like the fries & nachos. But it’s a local watering hole & the beer is cold, so I always end up coming back. The atmosphere is usually all right, can get pretty busy when all the college kids are there.

Tonight I got refused service because I had an out of state ID with 3 congruent IDs with the same name, including social security, insurance and credit card. After being refused service, 3 girls walked in WITHOUT IDs. I would be embarrassed to be the owner of this bar. I asked to speak to the manager and the response was I am the manager. So we waited for 5 police cars to show up, where they ran my friends and I ID’s which proved we were of legal age. Still, we were refused service. Since my friend and I are of legal age, we waited for the police; except instead of having us wait with the proper«management,» they had us wait at the door, then the bar«manager» STARTED a chant saying«get the fuck out.» With a line of about 45 people chanting«get the fuck out» we still didn’t move asking only that the bar manager would wait for the police with us as well… seeing that it is his job and all… but still, no service. GREATSERVICEPLUMS!!! I was with a group of 15 people, so congrats, you lost out on a minimum of $ 500 of LEGAL service because you can’t hire a bar manager that knows what hes doing, and even when the proper authorities come, they still refuse service. GOODNEWS, you let in about 10UNDERAGE girls from the university of st. thomas, I know they are underage because they are freshman in my intro classes…

The food here is pretty good. I really enjoy the light side burger and fries with seasoned sour cream. Sometimes the service is prompt and great, other times it is slow and our food is cold. Inconsistent service is the reason for only 3 stars.

Not what I was expecting for a «neighborhood bar»: this is definitely a sports bar, which if that’s what you’re looking for and you live in the neighborhood that makes it a kind of neighborhood bar, just not one for me. Top 40(«)music(») is pumped loudly throughout the space and you’ll see guys in khaki shorts chatting about football teams(I think they were footbal teams, might be wrong). Prices weren’t as low as I would have thought: $ 3.75 for a pint of primo. Guess I should head further east down Randolph and cross over to the West End bar scene.

I was at Plum’s twice in the last couple of weeks and both times, I had really bad experiences with the bartender. The first time, my friend and I asked what time the bar closed. He responded that it depended on whether we were going«nurse two beers for the next hour» and that he didn’t «feel obligated» to stay open until closing time just for us. Super rude. The second time we came in, it was open mic night and the flyers said ½ price bottles of wine until 12:30. I ordered my bottle and the same jackass bartender told me that it had ended at midnight, so I went ahead and paid full price. When I got back to my table, my friends pointed out that 1) I had ordered before midnight and 2) the flyer said 12:30 anyway. When we went to ask the bartender and showed him the flyer, he ripped it up in front of us and said he didn’t care what the flyer said, that he was the manager, and our bottle was not going to get discounted.(side note: he told us all this with a like, 5 pound wad of chew crammed up in his face – gross.) My friend asked that he honor what was advertised, at which point he asked«why do you two have it out for me?» WHAT?! He finally refunded half the price to us when I pointed out that none of this was personal and that we didn’t even know him to be able to have it out for him, but he said that bottle of wine was our last call and refused to serve us for the rest of the night. Plum’s is a cool bar, decent atmo, fun open mic night, good mix of people, and I would definitely go back any night I know that John the bartender is not working.

If you want to be surrounded by wasted 19 year old crying girls, this is a hot spot! They let in tons of minors because they hire students to work and bounce there, and despite the fact that it’s a sports bar, all of the St. Thomas girls wear their homecoming dresses and heels. If you aren’t trying to pick up an underage girl and actually want a drink, go somewhere less sweaty.

Plums is fine, it’s a Sports Bar with exactly the sort of Burger food you might expect. Last time I was there I grabbed a really impressive plate of fresh vegetables with my reasonable draught beer special. In prior visits I’ve been less than impressed with their jalapeño poppers, which were icy cold in the middle. The clientele varies tremendously depending on what night of the week you go out. If you like a frat sorority atmosphere, Thursdays are packed shoulder to shoulder with that crowd. On less busy nights the crowd seems to vary between groups of young professionals and older single guys who seem to have grown up in the neighborhood.

Went here a Sunday night when they had open mic. Some of the performers were really good. The service however was slow and almost non-existent. We had empty beers for quite awhile and were never asked if we wanted food, although it was like 9. There were a ton of college kids from St. Thomas or St. Kate’s or both. They were kind of obnoxious but it was mainly girls so not too bad. Nothing spectacular but I guess I’d go again. It’s somewhere between a VFW and college bar. If that comparison can be made. I guess I’d go again if only for the music and sit at the bar so my cup always runneth over.

If you are college or like to be in that crowd than you will love it here — — the one time i drank there i couldn’t get past how sticky the bar was it was like all the liquor that had spilled was just drying on there and never getting scrubbed off — - It is busy busy busy with the under 30 crowd and the old guys that are hoping to get lucky with somebody half there age… Not my cup of tea but everybody needs a place to party so don’t let my review stop you if you are just young and looking for a good time. If you are more into a quiet place to have a drink with your friends probably will be disappointed…

A-OK as far as bars go. I was here over Memorial Day weekend, it seemed a little slow, besides the bachelorette party. Slow seems par for the course seeing as everyone goes to their cabins etc over the holiday weekends. Service at the bar was pretty good and our table was treated to a free shot! whooo! I hear it’s a good University of St. Thomas bar. I’d go back. And update my review to be a little more thorough when I do!

You’d think this place would have it together a little better. Not all bad though as there are some bright spots. At the right times this place could be fun I can see. As far as my visit goes it was not impressive at all. The server asked to close out our tab because«she was done with her shift». Sorry ma’am-that’s a sin in the service business. The food was overpriced but they did have some items that looked reasonable. $ 8.95 for cheese and chicken quesos is not any value! I’d go back but only for drinking it up with friends. Look elsewhere for a unique dining experience. Parking also seemed like it could be a problem from time to time.

Wish I could give this place zero stars. Terrible service, rude staff, dirty clientele. Really I cant say anything positive about this dump. Stay away unless you like poor service and a trashy bar. Inside you’ll find a circular standard bar area, with tables and bar height chairs surrounding. They have a dance floor that is open on certain nights, dj stand, and pull tab booth. The walls are covered with old staples, paint chips, dirt, and random rundown junk. Overall, avoid this joint.
