There was a flood in my brand new luxury apartment building last April 2015. A clean water pipe burst on the eighth floor, flooding floor 8 and all the way down. The apartment building called rest pro to clean up the water and fix the damage. Rest pro serviced the apartment building and all of the tenants. Rest pro made a LOT of money. Rest pro immediately had us all sign a contract. This contract basically states that they can do anything to your stuff and they are NOT held liable for any damage they do to your stuff.
Rest pro immediately put large fans in all the apartments. Everything in my apartment was clean until they put the fans in there. Do not let them put fans in until you move and pack all your stuff. The only reason I had to have my stuff cleaned was because those fans blew dirty water all around. After everything was dry, all of my stuff was filthy!
Rest pro took my stuff, «cleaned it», and stored it for about 2 months. They brought my stuff back to me, and it WREAKED of smoke and was damaged (the furniture was all dinged up). I was wondering how this happened, and realized that rest pro does fire and water restoration. Rest pro took my stuff back to their facility due to the smoke smell. Getting rest pro to resolve this situation was like pulling teeth without drugs… very painful. This was my home, which now wreaked of smoke. It was very stressful to say the least. I was homeless for about 5 months due to the flood, and 2 months of this time I didn’t have ANY furniture! My apartment building was amazing and helped me through this whole ordeal. If it wasn’t for them, I really would have been homeless! In the end rest pro got rid of the smoke smell and we settled the final bill. Everything worked out to rest pros favor. When I got my stuff back, it no longer smelled of smoke. It smelled like a dirty old persons house. It smelled BAD. I had to clean absolutely everything! It took me a month to get my place smelling nice again.
People, pack and move your stuff BEFORE anyone puts fans or does any construction in your place if you have water damage. It will save you months of headache and heartache.
