Do you remember those bars you went to with your family when you were little for football games? Nothing flashy, great food, neighborhood folk who knew each other? This is that place. I knew this place before the current ownership took over and I can tell you that’s it’s 150% better than it ever was. You don’t feel like you’re going to get shot in the bathroom. What you have are«no b.s.» bartenders that will expel problems so your stay is enjoyable, a cook that knows what they’re doing and can adjust your order to your tastes(I’ve tested this) and an owner that is present 80% of the time, who is helpful, accepts critique and is very, very accessible no matter how busy he is. The food is the BEST bar food in the city. I’m not talking about damn Heggie’s Pizza either. I mean REALFOOD. Over twelve different wings(jalapeño/strawberry to name one). Recently, I had fried pierogi that are unmatched. The burgers are again, amazing. Drink prices are low and beers are your standard(Bud/Miller), though there are other higher ends available who for those who seek something different. Recently they had Surly«Wet» on tap. High times at this bar are any Vikings, Wild, Twins game. St. Pattys Day is always a blast. … Try and find yourself here for those times. Enjoy it. Order the food. Come back.

Stopped in for a Coney Dog to see if they really are the best! Just ok. Nothing like the previous persons picture. Also, they come bacon wrapped. I got one without the bacon, Hubby got one with. He agrees just ok too! Not The Best! Still on the search!!!

It’s a small bar maybe 800sq ft+ a outdoor patio with seating for 12 or so people. The clientele is fine 7 days a week, I was raised in the suburbs, grew a pair and joined the Army, I’ve been to the ghetto’ist places and some of the highest end venues in the country and around the world, this place charges for beers, a standard east side dive bar prices. However!!! The thing that got me is 3 Coor’s Light + 3 shots of CrownRoyal+Pineapple juice(smooth finish) to three drunk individuals who live within walking distance was a whopping $ 52.00! I know the beers were only $ 3 each because I’d just bought one 5 minutes earlier for a friend. This happened at last call, I also dealt with a rather unfriendly(hurry the f*ck up I wanna close the bar early female bartender) who between myself and two buddies had already generously tipped out of the kindness of our hearts a good $ 30 – 40 for other less complicated drinks(Coor’s Light) all evening long. Maybe had 15 – 20 beers between us three over a 3−4hr window. Needless to say I believe I undoubtably was over charged by a bartender I will never again tip, went their during the day, ordered my usual Wednesday special, asked how much 3 beers and the 3 shots would cost(with no specials) and was told $ 32.00! Don’t tip the white, early 30’s, 5’6“ish, burnet haired female bartender! Other than that it’s a great little hole in the wall bar. Weekdays the food is great M-F daily specials.

Absolutely love this place! Awesome specials and the dollar tacos on Tuesday are really good. Another thing I highly recommend trying are the wings at the St Paul Saloon. Lots of sauces to choose from but the Asian Chili are my favorite. Drinks are very reasonably priced and the patio is very nice. Stop in and check this place out!

As a bar: Seedy and divvy, a place were you go to drink and maybe get into a fight. We were here on a Saturday night in the spring and it was a mixed crowd of casual drinkers and a particularly rough looking group of bikers. I love bikers but this little group seemed edgy and willing to pop you one if you looked at them wrong. The rest of the crowd was a good mix of dudes just gettin’ their drink on, shootin’ some sh! t and watchin’ some sports. Oh, and they do have a dress code, particularly no ‘pants on the ground’ types, and they have some rather strong political views on the back bar. As a restaurant: Just no. Simple bar food and burgers. If that is what you are after, great but don’t come looking for some fabulous dinner or anything. Just a few great pairings to go with your Hamms from a can. =)

The only thing on a menu worth eating is the fries(if they aren’t cold) and the club. We work just down the street and have tried almost everything and it’s all bad, and the wait time is insane. and atleast and hour wait for burgers? that’s insane.

Double up for a buck! This place is great. Found it online and can’t wait to go back. I met a friend here for a couple of beers on a recent weekday HH. Beers were double up for a buck, service was super friendly, other patrons very nice and the fried treats quite delicious! I’m putting this place in my regular rotation of bars. We started to head out just as they were setting up for the Open Jam night, so it must be great.

If you’re into dive bars, this is your Mecca. Dirty tile ceilings. Bearded guys with hopeless looks on their faces. A classic arcade game with PAC-MAN and Donkey Kong. Ex-cons. Oh but they have live music and there’s no cover charge. Open mic, so tear a few rifts if you feel the urge! I’ll be back.

The sign on the entrance to the new St. Paul Saloon is a good indicator that changes are occurring at the intersection of Earl and Old Hudson street, «Pull up your pants, your aren’t in prison anymore.» The New St. Paul Saloon is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. They have done a great job of keeping trouble away, so I’d encourage anyone who avoided the place for the past 4 – 5 years to give it a shot. The drinks are cheap and stiff. Check out happy hour daily from 3 – 7 p.m., where appetizers are half priced and you can double up your drink order for an extra dollar. They have good honest food, including a mean chili dog, bar tacos and fresh sandwiches. Keeping up with its working class credentials, most menu items are in the $ 5-$ 7 range and pitchers of Hamm’s beer are $ 5. There is now an outdoor patio, where he serves $ 2 tap beer during all Twins, Vikings and Wild games.
