Finding a gluten free pancake option is rare and the Egg and I has buckwheat pancakes the size of your head. Could barely eat two! All pancakes can come with fruit or toasted pecans. My dining companion had the kamikaze yogurt which is served with fruit and nuts –delicious. Service is friendly and fast. This is a bustling place. We will definitely be back.

Great breakfast for a reasonable price. I usually go with their daily special as it is affordable and is large quantity of food. If you go on a weekday morning, expect it to feel very governmenty. It felt like there were quite a bit of politicians there. The décor is what you’d expect from a breakfast joint, nothing fancy and a bit tacky.

First time going to this place. I was immediately struck by the dated, dark décor. I was seated at a booth with a stained, chipped, Formica tabletop. I cautiously ordered a standard eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and toast. The hashbrowns were the worst I have ever tasted. Super greasy, cold and stale. The kind server brought me a replacement plate of more hasbrowns that were worst than the first. The server apologized. Except for the service, positively among the worst breakfast ever. Hard to believe this place specializes in breakfast.

a must take for out of towners. brought my wife her for her first trip to my hometown. The service is always fast and helpful. I ordered the incredibly amazing Eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce… oh my goodness… the hollandaise sauce! I can’t begin to say enough great things about the sauce! My wife ordrered the banana pancake. It was big enough to share with our 2 year old son. Parking is easy with a lot dedicated for the restaurant. It can be a little difficult to find if you aren’t looking for it. It’s located on the first floor of a business building. Overall, a great visit!

Saturday brunch at Egg & I with a good friend. She’s vegetarian. We were seated promptly and the host stood by while we decided on what to drink. Waitress was honest about what was good and what she liked. I got the Mexican omelet and my friend got the veggie omelette. Both were mediocre at best. They were large portions so I’ll have to go back for their cakes.

Had a late breakfast on Thursday and the waitress was sitting on a chair, chatting up some customers for almost 5 minutes not ten feet from me. Completely clueless. I watched her do this at least one other time. Finally took my order and eventually got it into the kitchen. Some kind of less than memorable Benedict thing. Finally brought check and wanted to be my friend. I generally have no problem going 20% but I stiffed her good. Hopefully management is on to her.

Favorite breakfast place to take out of towners! Great breakfast! Eggs Benedict comes with hash browns and a perfect amount of hollandaise sauce! Pancakes can come with blueberries, strawberries, or bananas for a little extra! Banana pancakes are excellent!

A 3.5 would probably be more appropriate. Pros: Excellent, very friendly, and quick service. Portions are appropriate, if a little large. Eggs were cooked perfectly(even for my husband, who said it was the best sunny-side up egg he’s had in quite a while). Cons: Hashbrowns were a little mushy. The meat in both of our breakfasts was SUPEr bland. I had ham in my omelet that was kind of flavorless, and his sausage just didn’t taste…‘sausagy’. I’m not sure how that really happens in a place that supposedly specializes in breakfast. It would be a good place for a group to meet for breakfast, and again, excellent service. Which goes a long way :)

It’s just gotten too darn expensive for our breakfast there now. It’s $ 10 each X2 = $ 20 + $ 5 for coffees and then add in tax and tip you’re over $ 32 now for some eggs bacon hash browns coffee breakfast. We just make it at home. Plus the last time we went it was not as amazing as it used to be. It was just ok. For $ 32 or less we can both eat some great food with some local craft beer at happy hour at places like red cow.

I really want to like this place. Food is 3.5 stars, service is 4 stars. The booth benches are broken. They play music that sounds like noise and either don’t notice or somehow paid to do it. The bathroom is barely clean. The main take-away. If there’s a food item you really like, you can go for it if you don’t mind the bad attitude of management and putting up with the uncomfortable furniture. I’m willing to change the rating if the place changes. Somehow, I suspect they are not going to be in business much longer. 1÷15÷16 Moved up to two stars. Takeout is good.

What made our whole visit was our waitress! ANDREA was THEBEST. Young woman who was relatable, funny, and great with kids. I went for breakfast with my sister and we ended up chatting with Andrea and it was like adding an older sister to our table. The food wasn’t half bad either. Coffee was just fine and I have no complaints about the veggie omelet and toast I had. Go Andrea!

Gag. Tea so weak they automatically give you two tea bags, and a blueberry muffin with more sugar and white flour than blueberries or flavor. I would have have better taste(and service) at a gas station.

Is there any better place for breakfast in the Twin Cities? No. From the friendly, experienced staff to the unbelievably fast delicious food you cannot be disappointed. Eggs Benedict with real hollandaise, huge tasty pancakes in a variety of styles & flavors as well as omelets, skillets, and more you can’t go wrong. Do yourself a favor and try this place for breakfast soon! You’ll keep coming back.

We had breakfast at Egg and I by 280. I ordered skillet breakfast expecting the breakfast would come in skillet. But it came in bowl. It looks like bunch of ingredients piled on top of each other, not mixed with the egg. American fries looked like they were boiled. Only reason I gave 2 star was my boyfriend had Turkey omelet and it was decent.

The Egg & I serves a pretty solid breakfast. Tucked away in an office center, it’s actually kind of hidden. And it’s big. Net result: we went at noon on a Sunday and didn’t have to wait more than about a minute for a table. Bonus star just for accessibility. I ordered the Eggs Commodore, which is basically an Eggs Benedict with sausage patties replacing the Canadian bacon. It was pretty tasty. The sausage patties were flavorful but not spicy or too fatty. The egg was poached beautifully. The English muffin was perfect(that’s usually the downfall of most Benedicts for me) and the Hollandaise was nice — soft and creamy, though perhaps not as lemony as I would have personally liked. Still very super solid. And I enjoyed that it came just about drowning in Hollandaise. I hate places that skimp on the sauce. Came with a side of hashbrowns, which were kind of average. Fine but nothing extraordinary. My husband shared his wheat toast, which was delicious. And we also ordered a kamikaze pancake just to try one — it’s humongous — plate sized for real. And it comes with nuts, blueberries and sliced bananas. I’m not really sure the upcharge for the kamikaze was worth it, but it was mighty tasty. He got the corned beef hash, which was decent. He also got American fries, which are NOT french fries. They are hashbrowns that are the kind where there are little slices of potato that are grilled — homefries, really. Just know before you order. I saw an omelette float by and it looked really good as well. Very good coffee plentiful and refilled fast. I also dug the glass coffee mugs. Service was good — not extraordinary but certainly on point. Seemed very family friendly and efficient.

Cheap, quick and close to my home. Food: 1. Breakfast Sandwich — very subpar, too much egg, not enough sausage, and english muffin was straight from a box. I had high hopes as my friend was talking up a storm about the sandwiches but she frequents the Uptown location(which she prefers). 2. Hashbrowns — crispy and a little dry. 3. Pancake — large and okay, the texture reminded me of the pancakes I make at home and I’m terrible at making pancakes. $ 10 for the whole pile of food so no reason to be majorly upset about my item choices or the amount. Service: The waitress was friendly, helpful and checked up on the table frequently. Plus she understood my disappointment at the absence of biscuits & gravy on the menu. I’d give this place another try, especially the omelets because the person next to my table had one that looked mighty good with veggies. I love the convenience but I would gladly drive the 10 minutes to the Colossal on Como or Cedar Ave if I’m in the mood for something more gourmet.

We like the Egg & I, and have come here for years — for quite a while it was one of only a couple of go-to weekend breakfast spots for us. But it’d been awhile since we made the trip across town… Unfortunately, today(a Sunday), when we went by, we found that the hosting Court International office building has closed out and posted signing on ALL of their massive parking lots except a small one directly adjoining the restaurant, against use by the Egg & I. Net result is that the restaurant now has possibly 18 or 20 spaces for customers. At 10am on a Sunday, when the building was empty, every spot available for the restaurant was filled. We like the restaurant, but this is ridiculous. We moved on without looking further for other parking options. Sadly we probably won’t be back in the future. The new parking régime is killing them. If their landlord has gotten that greedy, they should seriously consider relocating to another location. Trying to operate a restaurant with as many tables as they have on a such a small number of parking spaces is suicidal.

This is a nice breakfast spot where the wait isn’t too long… usually. We waited less than 10 minutes for our table, and the restaurant was packed. My son had the mini cakes and sausage; I had the everything omelet made with egg substitute; and my husband had the turkey/wild rice omelet. That’s not a combination I’d ever try, yet he enjoyed it very much. The mini cakes aren’t small at all. They are the size of regular pancakes. If you’re not wanting giant pancakes, then these are the right ones to get. The everything omelet was good, though not as good as Keys. I do like that they don’t slather the toast in butter, as I always forget to ask for them to skip that for me. I’ll eat bread if it’s in front of me. If you’re seeking a good, filling breakfast without bells and whistles, thus a big price, then The Egg & I is the place to go. I’ve yet to be disappointed with anything I’ve had here. The food comes out as expected: Good and comforting.

My favorite breakfast spot in the Cities. You don’t come here for the beauty and artistic merit of the place, you come for the food and great service. Yes it’s in an office building or whatever, but there’s plenty of parking ’round back in the massive lot, so you don’t even have to mess with University Ave. Plus it’s a huge place, so chances are you’ll get a comfy booth; unless you go during their peak-time crush, there’s no waiting for a table and certainly no scrum to fight through, like at Keys. The service here is spot-on. They ask you what you want to drink when you’re seated, so they’re already on top of that by the time you open the menu. Then your server will be over shortly. I’ve been going here for years and I’ve only had spotty service a few times. Usually it is more than good. They are also very efficient with refills. Ah, the food. The eggs are large and cooked well every time. The hash browns are a delicious mix of crispy and soft in the middle, and the toast is a great raft of wheat goodness, albeit sometimes a little dry. You can always get something other than the wheat toast; I guess they’re just trying to give you some healthier bread by default. They definitely give you large portions too, so beware not to order too much. The skillets are a TON of food. I used to get the American skillet often, which has ham, American fries and cheese, plus eggs, tomatoes, etc. After a time I could no longer handle that much food. Now I just mix it up with the traditional breakfast with ham or bacon, or other options. The corned beef hash is especially good and has become my favorite because they do it up right. My girlfriend gets the huevos rancheros a lot, which is a colorful mix of veggies, black beans, and eggs. Their french toast and pancakes are also above average. I would recommend this place to anyone for breakfast. I haven’t even strayed from the breakfast menu to try the lunch sandwiches because the breakfast is that solid. Whenever I think of breakfast done right, the Egg and I is the place.
