Do you want a real-deal, fabulous gyro sandwich anywhere south of Tarpon Springs? PLEASE go to this restaurant. Underwhelming from the outside but the sandwiches are unbelievably good for a great price! This is by far the BEST gyro I’ve had anywhere in Pinellas south of Tarpon. No, I’m not in any way associated with this place. This is an objective review. Go there!

Did I just get on a plane and fly to Greece to enjoy this truly authentic gyro?! Nope! Just drive up the street here in Pinellas Park! I’ve enjoy plenty of gyro in Greece so I know when it’s the real deal. This is by far the most real authentic gyro I’ve had in ages. Decided to pop in since I was craving gyro and fries. It’s even searched the same way you’d get it in Greece. Normally, it’s topped with tzaziki, onion, tomato and French fries. Yeah, you saw that right, French fries stuffed inside the gyro! Well, they don’t do that here so I just ordered a side of fries. The gyro was bangin’! The tzaziki went on first followed by the tomato and onion and then the glorious main star the gyro meat. This was packed… jam packed with meat! It was falling out as I was eating it! I literally had to pluck meat out and set aside to eat after! Stuff a few French fries inside and man I closed my eyes and was back in Paros, GR again. Crisp fries and an overly happy stuffed gyro. I’m full and happy! I’m in big trouble having visited! I’ll be there more often knowing this is the best gyro!

It might look a little dumpy, but the gyros here are very good. The sauce the owner makes is much better than the sauces I’ve found around Tampa. I’m a little biased as, IMHO, the best Greek food is in my hometown of Milwaukee. The sauce this place makes is ALMOST as good as the cucumber sauce back home. The gyro meat here is ALMOST as good also. The menu is limited, hence 4 stars. I would lean toward 3 ½, but it’s the best gyro I’ve found in 3 years around this area, so 4 stars it is.

I hate to only give it three stars, but I think four is just a little too high for this place. I would definitely go again, and the owner is a great guy. I had the salad, which had potato salad at the bottom. That’s really weird to me. The spanakopita was not quite what I was expecting, but it was rather tasty. The baklava gets two thumbs up. It’s not much on the outside, nor on the inside for that matter, but don’t let that deter you from eating there. Just understand it’ll take a while to get your food.

I’ve enjoyed the great gyros here for well over twenty years. The place may not look like much on the outside, but don’t let that fool you. This is the best gyro you can get in our area, without making the drive to Tarpon Springs! I’ve noticed a very lame trend over recent years of subs/sandwich joints claiming to serve a «gyro,» that is made with very thin, pre-sliced meat sort of like a Greek«Steak-Umm.» Huh? Call that whatever you want, but it’s not a real gyro! Athenian’s does it right, with piles of tasty and hot gyro meat, carved right off that vertical rotisserie like you should expect. They don’t skimp either! I often have to pick off and eat several strips of the meat before I can even lift their gyro up to take the first bite! If you like feta cheese and black olives, spend the extra 50 cents and order their«Super Gyro.» It’s my favorite here. (On a side note: The architecture of this funky little building has always intrigued me. I always wonder what it was originally? Maybe a diner? Very interesting…)

One of the best places for Gyros that I’ve been to in Florida. This is a must try food spot! The prices are great and the food is even better. Do yourself a favor and stop in if you’re in St. Pete

Hands down the best spot to grab a drive through, pick up, or «sit down, inhale, and bounce» place. Always my go to!

Best Greek salad I’ve ever had, and at the perfect price. I like their quaint little drive-thru too. No complaints!

This is decent Greek food and has the convenience of a drive thru. The menu is smaller than most Greek places but the taste is pretty good. The dolmades are good and flavorful. The gyro meat is good but sometimes a little greasy. The pita used for the gyros are on the smaller side but taste good. The fries are really tasty and not greasy. The salad has lots if veggies and feta. The dressing is light. I got the gyro and salad combo but the salad didn’t have potato salad with it, I’m not sure if the larger one does or not. But that was okay with me because it’s an American picnic style potato salad. I wouldn’t go out of my way for it but I was craving Greek on my way home and it satisfied my craving.

A true salute to greek food and Athenian does so masterfully. Along with a wonderfully inviting owner the menu sports prices that you couldn’t argue with if you tried and with the owners simple motto of simple ingredients he creates amazing gyros. The only things that kept them from a full five was the tables for two people its rather intimate seating for any more almost impossible and the mens room was rather dirty.

Everytime I visit St. Petersburg on business, I find an excuse to stop here for lunch. This is the only gyro place I’ve been to where there was so much meat on my pita, that I had to take some of it off just to eat it! The Greek salad and grape leaves are also worth a try. 4 stars for cleanliness, but, then again, the place a kind of a dive. I’m definitely coming back here.

The place is not much to look at, but the food is awesome. I have yet to have a bad meal there yet, and I go at least once a week. I’m especially partial to the gyros and the extremely tasty tahziki(sp) sauce, which I always ask for more. They make it right there in the back room, from the owners’ Grandmother’s secret recipe(I’ve asked about it). I told them they should bottle it and sell it in stores… it’s that good! The guys that work nights and Saturday are especially friendly. If you get a chance, check out the food here… you won’t be sorry!

(3.5) I have mixed feelings about this place. One of my best friends is of Lebanese descent, so I’ve had lots of Mediterranean food over the years and love the cuisine. So I was excited when a friend wanted to meet up here for lunch. It was a small, no-frills, walk-up-to-the-counter type of place. We got a Gyro Platter, Gyro Salad and a side order of Stuffed Grape Leaves. The salad was enormous and loaded with Gyro meat. Likewise, the platter had a soft pita that was piled high with Gyro meat and tzatziki sauce and served with fries and a salad. While the portions were plentiful, the gyro meat was a touch too salty for my preference. The Stuffed Grape Leaves were probably the biggest disappointment. They didn’t really wow me flavor-wise and the rice filling was very mushy. Overall, the food and counter service was okay. Once thing is for sure though — it’s a great bargain eats place because you get a lot for your money. The food comes out pretty fast too, so it’s a great place to go for a quick lunch.

Very much a local business, it reminded me of the countless Greek places in NYC. The gyros were traditionally prepared and the quality was good all around. The portions were reasonable from a value perspective and if you are in the area, I would definitely recommend them for a quick lunch.

It great for Greek fast food. They have a limited menu of gyro with salad or fries and things like spinach pie, onion rings, etc. for sides. The food is really tasty, restaurant clean, and service fast. If you want a quick and dirty gyro this is the place for you. Good for a quick lunch, they have a drive through window as well. I will definitely go back.
