St. Petersburg / Madeira Beach KOA

Really nice place. 100% recommends. Every detail is good. Price??? Really good… Had a great time with my family.

Had a great time with family and friends. We all booked the Deluxe Cabins and they were very spacious and super clean a total of 5. Management was very helpful in arranging all units to be next to each other and they made it happen and it worked out SUPER GREAT… We were all bouncing in and out of each others cabins and having a hell of a great time. Patio areas are greatly equipped with gas grills, fire pits, sitting benches and tables.
I was a bit worry when booking because my Little Lucy (Dog) was coming with us and they only had 2 units available which allowed pets. So I tough OK we are gonna get stuck with the smelliest, oldest unit they have but man o man was it the total opposite SUPER CLEAN and they even placed new clean bowls for her with a bag of treats awww.
This visit was during the mother day weekend 2016 for a 2 night stay and just yesterday I booked another stay for the end of July 2016 for a 3 night stay, oh its gonna be fun!!! :-).
Madeira Beach is only a 5−10min ride, we visited the beach about 4 times in 2 days because of its proximity.
Reasons why not 5 stars:
(1) Quiet hours, they should be extended till at least Midnight instead of 10PM.
(2) The road that leads into the campground is a little scary looking, but trust me you will forget about it once inside the campground.

As a lifelong resident of Pinellas County I have seen the constant updates KOA has completed through the years. In contrast to the other reviews, I find the spaces very generous. This is a campground for goodness sake, not a private resort. The bathrooms have been remodeled. They were kept clean and stocked during my stay. The staff is very helpful and is readily available if needed. The general store is stocked with forgotten items. Ice and water machines are located in key areas. The campsites have standard hookups, cable, and water. The wifi is extremely slow. Sites along the intercoastal give beautiful views and access to wildlife such as fiddler crabs, jumping mullet, egrets and blue herons. As a local, these may seem common, but through the eyes of someone who have not seen such things close up is an incredible site. Keep in mind the hotter/​humid it gets, mosquitos and noseeums are terrible, especially by the mangroves. I gave 4 stars due to renovations and slow wifi.

OMGOSH! What a terrible campground at highway robbery prices! First of all, it’s located in an old alley industrial park, squeezed in. Next, I think it used to be a senior citizens trailer park only. There were only a few camper travel trailers. Obviously, the multiple «residents» we’re territorial bc they constantly would remind you what time the pool closed, etc. They have weekly «yard sales» that are such an eyesore and added to the vehicle congestion. The activities listed on the KOA page are for the residents only. The sites were so small and so difficult to maneuver that we wasted a good portion of our afternoon and morning lining that up. The water pressure in the bathrooms was nothing more than a trickle even when I tried at odd hours. Not kid friendly at all.

We stay at the koa several times a year. Always a great time. Pool is wonderful and they keep it heated! Staff is friendly and helpful. Lots of amenities. A very quite and peaceful place to vacation. And its minutes from the beach. Love this place, we have made many happy memories here.

The hot tubs are nice when they are in working condition, but most of the time the heater is broken.
The Wi-​Fi is slow, almost unusable.
The rates are high.
Quiet hours are 10:00pm.
If you’re having guests, they need to be registered the day before.
The restrooms are dirty.
Also, for two years now by the pool they have the radio on. The thing is though, that it’s total fuzz being broadcast. Laying by the pool and trying to relax is like laying near someone scratching fingernails on a chalkboard. I asked them to change the station several times throughout the last couple of years, and they just change it to another station that is total fuzz. It would be better if they just turned it off. Or maybe turn on Pandora or Spotify… something that isn’t fuzzy and hard on the ears.

I’ll start with the negative first then the positives. On check in we went to our site and had a guide to show us where to go. The guide was rude and expected us to squeeze a 35′ travel trailer into one meant for a smaller one. I am experienced in backing trailers I have been doing it for over 30 years. I couldn’t cut the trailer in on the first try and the guide was very impatient. When I settle in the spot my slide out was about a foot from the awning of the next camper. I said it was too close the man said «give me a break» and said that’s not to close. I told him I’d take care of it so I resolved the situation by parking on the concrete pad. Not ideal but problem solved. We explored the camp and found the sites are un-​level, almost all the other RV’s were blocked up an unusual amount. The facilities were dated and in need of a good revamping. Now to the positive. All the other staff were friendly and helpful. The facility’s were clean and there were plenty of staff on duty. We opted for the extended checkout and enjoyed the trip. It’s not the nicest park we have stayed in but it is worth staying at. It’s close to restaurants and other activities. We will stay again.

This is a great location with the water on one side of the grounds and the Pinellas Trail on the other. It rained most of the time we were there, so we never got a chance to use the pool or have a campfire. We did manage to Paddleboard (with our own boards) and play mini golf.
We stayed in a two-​bedroom cabin, which was quite roomy. There were two bunk beds (4 twin-​sized mattresses) in the front room and a full/​queen in the back bedroom, with a wall and door dividing them. There was a lot of room for a little cabin: we had 3 adults and 3 kids. The wall-​mounted air conditioner was in the back bedroom, so for the front room to get air conditioning, you have to leave the door between the rooms open: definitely a design flaw. The cabin we booked didn’t have a bathroom, which was mostly fine since we were really close to the bathrooms/​showers.
The bathrooms look like they’ve been remodeled recently. However, the weekend we were there, the toilet paper and soap were frequently low. I told the maintenance girl about it, and she said she would get to it. The bathrooms should be top priority, especially when they are out of necessary items. They could have cleaned and stocked them more frequently. I know it’s a busy time and there were a lot of groups staying, but management should staff accordingly.
The grounds were well maintained, other than that. There were friendly staff members waiting at the entrance to direct traffic and escort campers to their spots. All of the staff members were friendly and warm.
This was our first time staying in a cabin, and we would come back.

The receipts were a little hard to read, but the book keeper, Tonda fixed us right up. Nice experience and would definitely return. Thank you all for making our stay pleasant.

Out at the campgrounds relaxing and vacationing for a close friends birthday. A worker came and told us to quiet down and stop cursing. Even though quiet time is at 10 we fully respect and said we would settle down. After he told us to not curse we smiled and said it’s part of our game that we happen to be playing at the time (no cursing) and he called us smart asses. Very unprofessional! Extremely rude. We are paying hundreds a night for this. Being disrespected and cursed at is absolutely uncalled for.

We spent 4 nights here in a tent at waterside in mid-​April 2015 with our 2 daughters age 10 & 13 and 2 dogs. The campground seemed well staffed and clean. Very dog friendly. There are only 3 tent sites available with water and electric. The only complaint I have is that our site had no shade at all. We would sit in the shade at a neighboring site that wasn’t rented. The bathroom & showers in the rec building were very clean. One shower was out of order but I was always by myself in there so I had my pick. There is laundry in there as well, all visible from our site. The pool & hot tub area is nice, the bathrooms not as nice as the rec building. There are peddle cars for kids to rent. They have several different wifi networks but we couldn’t get any of them to work with both Android & Apple devices.

Spent 5 nights at this KOA in April 2015, in a 21 ft class B with a 30 amp connection.
The shower/​bathroom setup gets low marks for cleanliness. The stalls are generally messy with paper on the floor, and the concrete floor in the showers were slippery/​greasy, like they hadn’t been mopped in awhile. The rig parking spot was not flat but I was able to find an area that was within ½ bubble of center.
On a positive note, the fishing docks have fish cleaning areas and a charging shelter for your portable electronic devices. Nights are quiet. Ordering pizza is supported.

The RV sites are extremely small and the staff does not have the knowledge or ability to know whether you will fit into a site or not. Some very nasty people staying in the park. Some large and barking dogs. The prices are extremely high and the RV sites too small. The staff was helpful but this park just has way too many people.

I have never stayed at the Koa. We only go over here to get our propane tank filled, its not a bad deal and its a lot nicer then what you would get going to a large chain store in swapping out a tank. The people who work at the Koa are very nice, and so helpful.

Awesome find! Family /​pet friendly… camping, fishin’, swimming pool, hot tub, put put golf for kids, play ground… last night they had movie at the pool! Its been an all around great weekend here! Will be coming back :)

We spent our spring break week at the St Pete/​Madeira Beach KOA in our 35′ travel trailer. We stayed on lot 534 which is a premium site which included a paved patio with patio furniture, a fire pit, and had cable service. Although the site was a back-​in it sat in front of a cross street so that made it very easy to maneuver in and out of. One plus about the KOA is upon arrival someone escorts you to your site and assists you getting into it. This is pretty necessary though because, as with most KOAs, the campsites are pretty close together.
Other pluses:
The pool and hot tub area are really nice (our teenage boys were there everyday), 24-​hr security, staff picked up your trash if you left it out by the street for pick up, clean bathrooms, everyone from staff to vacationers to the snowbirds were all very friendly, great location with the Pinellas bike trail adjacent to it and the beach/​Johns Pass area less than a five minute drive.
Cons:
Tight campsites, wifi is free but is extremely limited. They did do a good job though of pointing out the limitations of the wifi so I didn’t feel misled about it.
Things to do close by: beaches within a few minutes drive (Madeira, Redington Shores, Treasure Island were closest beaches), John’s Pass is a great place for shopping and restaurants plus watersport companies are located here, Redington Long Pier had good fishing, Ft deSoto Park was awesome and only about 30 minutes away, Busch Gardens in Tampa took 45 mins (by the way-​the kennel service at Busch Gardens was really clean and friendly, $ 10 for the day).
We had a great stay and will definitely stay here again if we return to the area.

Ok last time we had a small cabin. This time we have a deluxe cabin. Wow… Spend the extra $$ it’s well well worth it! The cabin we got was very clean when we arrived. The deluxe cabin is just so nice with TV, linens. Etc. heck they even have a soap pump in your shower for you! Oh also comes with regular BBQ pit AND a gas BBQ.

Big campground, but more like a cottage rental style motel… that’s OK, as i cant think of many people that want to sleep in a tent when its 90 degrees, and 70% humidity.
Nice pool, lots of kids around, and AC in the cabins. Nice (although close together) hookups for your camper as well.
Join the KOA club and get deals for like «pay for one, get two» nights, and other discounts.
Good security here as well.

WOW. This place gets an award for the most miserable customer service I’ve ever encountered in a campground, and I’ve camped in dozens of them, both here and abroad. They totally botched our reservation, which we’d made months earlier online, and then stuck us on a patch of grass practically in the parking lot, next to a pest-​infested garbage area. They had a space available in the area we’d reserved (we had the computer-​generated receipt to prove it) but they insisted that they were holding that for someone else, even though their posted policy was that no specific sites could be held (?)… The apology they offered for their mistake was, «Well, we can give you a refund and you can go somewhere else!»
We spoke to a couple of other short-​term campers there and found that they’d been treated similarly. This campground has great potential, but the owners are apparently complacent and don’t care to give service to anyone except the snow birds who live there, and these make up most of the campground. Too bad. It could be a really nice place. I wouldn’t suggest coming here, though, and I will definitely look elsewhere next time. Fort DeSoto comes highly recommended.

Not a fan of the St Petersburg KOA.
This KOA is located in a bad neighborhood at the end of a dead end street. It is very far from the beach and extremely far from downtown St. Pete. Part of the St Petersburg KOA has stagnant water running through it so it smells like dead fish most of the time.
What I disliked the most about the St. Petersburg KOA is that they charge for every little thing.
Want a fire? You have to buy over-​priced fire wood from them in order to get a fire ring on your site.
Ooh, they have mini-​golf! (that is an extra charge)
High speed internet (extra charge and goes down every ½ hour)
Washing machines are small and expensive. We spent $ 15 doing a hamper full of laundry.
The biggest slap in the face was a charge for a late check out that was equivalent to ½ of what I paid for an entire day/​night! The camp ground was EMPTY and I was asking for 3 additional hours. On principal alone, I refused to pay it and left at normal checkout time.
I won’t be staying at the St Petersburg KOA again.
