Sunset Grille

We ate here for lunch on a rainy Saturday; two adults and two kids. The patio area is nice because it’s covered. We could enjoy the nice breeze without getting rained on. The atmosphere is tiki bar and the food is typical bar food, but it was tasty. I ordered a philly steak sandwich with fries and an appetizer of onion straws. The fries weren’t great — greasy and limp. Everything else was very good. Service was excellent. Drinks were cheap (we ordered rum runners).
My only complaint is that smoking is allowed. There were a couple of smokers when we were there. It didn’t bother me too badly, but I could see where that could be a problem if it was crowded.
Over all, good food, casual atmosphere, great service. Nice place to pop in for a quick lunch.

All delicious. We ate inside, at the bar, because the outside dining area was super packed. The bar area looks live a complete dive… we almost left, but the food reviews here on Unilocal made us stay. Glad we did. BEST burger in St. Pete, hands down… Huge handmade burger. Perfectly cooked with a side of homemade chips. The wings were also perfectly cooked and very tasty. Homemade fries as well. skins still on. yum. We’ll be visiting again.
Ladies room is a super tiny dive bar bathroom, but it was CLEAN.

Did not know it was legal to have this much smoking in a business that serves food to at least 80% of customers. Guess that that Sunset Grille is able to bypass the law because the restaurant is open in the front and the back.
It is basically a shack. Total dive, which has so much appeal to most locals. The «back porch» is where there are picnic tables for those that want to dine-​in, which is covered in blue tarps with a gravel floor. Be prepared to be exposed to nature’s elements. Also, note that the kitchen is open to all of this as well.
Visited because I hard that the burgers and the wings were excellent and cheap.
For two people, it is about $ 30 for two burger entrees and an order of wings. The lunch menu appears to be where the value is at, with most items being around $ 5.
Both of our burgers were overcooked. The fries are homemade/​hand cut and delicious, and are served a la carte.
I was hoping for a little more from the wings, especially after customers were raving about them. Ordered the Blackened Garlic wings– they were semi jiggly, floating in runny sauce, and not as flavorful as described.
Service is welcoming, super patient, and kind. It is easy to tell that they are used to dealing with all kinds of abrasive folks.
It breaks my heart to witness customers that are so much that they can barely stand get in their cars and drive off from here. If I was a cop, I wold be issuing DUI’s hand over fist from this place.
Keep it classy Sunset Grille and cheers to at least 50 more years of business.

This is great place to eat. The food was better than expected. Don’t let the looks of the place fool you. Some of the best atmosphere I’ve ever experienced. Amber, our waitress was very attentive and efficient. A pleasurable experience for sure. If you get a chance you really need to check it out.

Oh man! I grew up in Woodlawn and have been going to Sunset since I was little. I have great memories of chilli dogs and live music with my parents. I went just to drink last night and had an absolute blast. Good music, cheap drinks, and great people. I don’t know how I’ve never been to the bar before but I’ll definitely be back. As far as neighborhood dive bars go this place can’t be beat.

Great People, great food, great prices. Staff is very friendly, and will know your name within 2 – 3 visits. The owner and his wife are around alot and are really great people — super friendly. A real neighborhood feel .
Drinks are so cheap. Happy hour 2 for $ 3 vodka! Are you kidding me?
And the food is really good.
Recommend the Chicken Sandwich with Bacon and cheese — D’Lish!
Burger was awesome too.
Handcut french fries are a nice touch.
The open back bar is where its at this time of year with it cooling down outside.

The classic dinner drive ins and dive. Can’t wait to recommend this place for one of my favorite T. V Shows, Diners Drive Ins And Dives! This place is truly off the hook. Great food and fun staff. Very laid back and also one of the best times I’ve had at Bike Night yet. Their burgers are great, but truly there isn’t one thing that i wouldn’t recommend. And if you haven’t been there for breakfast it is a Must Go!

They charge 25 cents for togo –really? I use less of your napkins –glasses and staff and you charge for togo? Ok but can you use some better togo containers! The cheapest foam containers are silly – they leak and melt!
Still good wings but there are other places to go to have no smoking for eat in and take out!

brought friends from outta town, i use to eat there 8 years ago. i was told then try the blackened grouper sandwich, i brought my friends there present day and ordered the same. wow fantastic still. i moved away 40 miles, so sorry i dont get the chance more often. my friends loved it and still talk about that great meal!

So, see below for what I wrote a year ago. We were longtime patrons, but now. .. there is a server there that’s so unpleasant, brusque and unfriendly that we’ve really been driven away. We’ve always had great, friendly service before, so all I’m guessing that hey keep this person on b/​c she’s a friend or relative of the owner. We always hope we get the blonde, friendly server with a British accent, but unfortunately, we usually get the woman with the long dark hair. She makes us feel so unwelcome and acts so annoyed when we ask for anything that we’ve come to dread going there, so we’ve just stopped. Not worth the aggravation, where we feel like we should be kowtowing to a waitress. Amazing how just one person can have that effect.
This is such a reliably great, old-​school St. Pete place. Great service, huge glasses of wine, decent beer. I love their fried shrimp and french fries, which look like they’re made fresh (have the peels on and are just delicious). My husband ordered blackened mahi and said it was the in the top 5 of fish he’s eaten at a restaurant since moving to FL 30 years ago.

One of the few smoke free places in the area! The meat loft is by far their best dish — it’s huge!
The drinks are priced right and the bartenders — both named Amanda — are pleasant to work with.
If you’re looking for a neighborhood bar to call home, this is it.

A locals best kept secret. Nothing fancy, just good fresh food at reasonable prices. It’s the kind of place where everyone seems to know each other.

We go every Sunday morning when in st pete. Love Beverly, she makes my day every time. Great hangover food and the Bloody Mary is the hair of the dog. A must stop.

We tried Sunset Grille for the first time because of the live music. The house wine was good as were the garlic wings and deep-​fried mushrooms! Service was prompt and friendly. Ventilation was adequate to accommodate non-​smokers in spite of being busy.

This is my new favorite place to get a burger (El Cap used to be!). I went here Labor Day weekend, recemended by someone who came into my job a few days earlier and told me about it when I asked where a fun place was I could go to, has great food and I can bring my best buddy Bob the dog with me! I will definately be back here for the guacamole burger and onion strings. So good! My dog also had fun and the waitress was really nice and brought him some ice water. Bob and I say THANKS! (:

Great place to eat I have had nearly everything on the menu. The weekly lunch specials are a great deal 5.00 I like the Buffalo chicken sandwich. The weekend breakfast is great also the french toast and sausage are my favorite. The blackened garlic wings and grouper bits are always a good choice

The burger here deserves a worthy mention! I have been on the search for a place that can provide a delicious burger with fresh cut french fries for less than $ 10 since moving here. I can say that this place has satisfied that craving! They put the burger together exactly how I ask and the fresh cut french fries set them apart from the other burger spots in town!

And… They make scrambled eggs the right way… Choppy not a mass (like an omelette– gross) :)
