Best gyros in the valle! Excellent tzatziki. The toppings bar is a nice touch – I particularly like the tomato cucumber salad. The fries are simple, but hot and crisp. The place is very small, but I’ve been there many times and not had a problem finding seating or parking. There are five seats inside and a picnic table outside.

It’d a small quaint shop. Limited options but the food was good. We had a chicken and rice and a lamb and rove platter and they both tasted pretty good. You put in your own salad toppings so that was kind of cool.

Five stars for the most delicious dine-in or take-out fast-food in the Roanoke Valley. Small menu with big flavor! Great use of the small space too. Good for striking up conversations with the lovely owners or the other patrons. The food bar is full of delicious hand made exotic foods to add on to your gyro. I love this place!

Great place to get Gyros and falafel, and the free veggie/salad add on bar is an added bonus! Quick service but limited seating, more of a takeout spot.

4.5 stars! I’ve only had falafel sandwiches and baklava, and both are excellent! The restaurant was a zoo today, my second visit — 8 people crammed into the tiny space. When folks left, others pressed in. It was fun, and the cook/order taker/cashier(one guy) was amazing, pumping out sandwiches with efficiency and good humor. Don’t forget the baklava — you will regret passing it up.

There were some things I really liked about Abracadabra and some that really turned me off. Like everyone else mentioned, the area is really, really small. This makes it seem very authentic but is also a bit of an inconvenience. We happened to stop by on a REALLY nice day, so we just sat outside by our car and ate. I think the space is sort of a neutral point. On a positive note, the chicken in my gyro was delicious. It was in big chunks, and very well seasoned. I also LOVE the idea of the toppings bar, as it really allows for you to personalize your meal. The garlicky eggplant is AMAZING! I thought the actual pita was pretty gross. It wasn’t fluffy at all, and couldn’t hold up to any of the meat juice(I didn’t even get sauce), so everything immediately started to fall out of the bottom. Also, having the meat on the bottom and toppings on top means it’s almost impossible to get a solid, evenly-mixed bite. I’d go back but I’m not in any hurry. I think for the price, Paul’s downtown is a much better bet.

Great find on a trip home. Gyros were delicious and the staff were very friendly. Not far from I81, worth the drive into town. My kids had their first gyro here and really enjoyed as well.

Such a great falafel place. We go here whenever we are in Salem looking for a good lunch. It is owned by a really nice couple that make high quality food. I agree with a lot of other reviewers in that the toppings are so awesome. Just make sure you grab some gum for afterwards as they use a lot of garlic!

Tiny, nice mom and pop place. Probably the best falafel sandwich I’ve ever had and a delicious Greek salad with Gyro. Highly recommend :). Ate here in the middle of an 8 hour road trip and liked it so much, we stopped again on the way back.

One of my frequent to-go places in the Roanoke Valley/Salem. The owner and his wife couldn’t be any nicer. The food is amazing and always consistent, the topping bar is incredible! All the toppings and salads are homemade by the owner’s wife and effort she puts into making them shines through when you taste them. All their meats are Halal as well, which is an added bonus for those who have that dietary restriction. I consider this one of our secret treasures of the valley!

We only come to Salem once a year but we don’t miss this place! While there today at lunch we were two of at least eleven customers and we understand why, The gyros and falafel are the best we have ever had and we have tried quite a few places. We ate until we couldn’t eat any more and then got baklava to go. The service is quick and very friendly. If you are in Salem and want some excellent Mediterranean food be sure to stop here!

Today was my second visit to this establishment, both times were nothing less than fantastic. I had the falafel and it was a flavor sensation. The condiment bar is really where it is at, it makes great food even greater.

Gyro was very good. Toppings bar to fill up your gyro makes it more delicious to your liking. Small place with big taste.

My wife and I had been past here on a number of occasions but hadn’t stopped in. We rectified that situation today, and I’m ecstatic that we did. I got the lamb and rice special and and my wife got the felafel pita. Both meals were fantastic, and the felafel is, according to my wife, even better than at Zorba’s, which is really saying something. There’s virtually no room inside for more than a few people, but that’s OK, the food quality more than makes up for the lack of interior space and parking. Just get your meal to go and eat it In your car, or, if the weather’s good(which it wasn’t today), sit at the picnic tables outside and enjoy a real taste treat. The condiment bar is fantastic — you have to try the pickled veggies and pickled eggplant, they are both excellent. The owners were pleasant to deal with and the food is prepped right in front of you, which just makes the dining experience all the better, IMO. You get to see exactly what you are getting. We’ll definitely be back, even though it’s not very convenient to get to, it’s that good!

I’ve been coming here for about 3 years. Initially it was a secret I kept from my husband and son. Something just for me. All mine. Now I share it with them occasionally, when they are on their best behavior and my husband tries to get the owners to rat me out about how many times they’ve seen me since his last visit. He’s jealous. The food here is important, but the service is equally fantastic. The owners are so sweet and we always chat about our kids. I’ve been ordering gyro for years but recently started getting falafel. The falafel is such a great texture and flavor. The toppings bar is insane. Kids love it! This is a great place to bring out of towners for a quick bite. Pro-tip: if you like hot sauce, try the homemade garlicky hot sauce on the toppings bar, it’s fantastic on gyro, falafel and most importantly FRIES!

It’s a dive but the food is fantastic! I would rate it more than 5 if I could. Try everything! Baklava is the best I’ve ever had. The Falafel too. The sauces and toppings are out of this world. Please open a second restaurant in Roanoke!

After driving past this place for far too long, I decided today was finally the day to stop in and try it out. It’s owned/operating by a husband and wife team(I’m presuming) and you feel instantly at home the moment you step through the door. It’s a small place, with just a lunch counter for four and a two-top table on the wall, but the coziness gives it some appeal. For starters, anywhere where the size necessitates the kitchen being out in plain view usually means the place is necessarily well-kept. This is very true here. I carried out a gyro and a falafel to split with my wife. Both were freshly made and delicious. They both survived a ten minute car ride and were not soggy or otherwise diminished, so I felt I got the full experience. I’m already plotting my return. :) There is a little toppings bar off to the side and you can add olives, onions, tomatoes, sauces, garbanzo beans, etc. to the top of your sandwich… a nice touch! In my case, since I was ordering to go, he’d hand me one item in a small open sack, I’d add toppings and hand it back. It worked. It’s cliché, but I found it to be the very essence of the small mom & pop stereotype that makes you prefer these kinds of places over big national soulless chain restaurants. There is a warmth and friendliness that people find over good food. I’d definitely recommend it.
