Well, if Almost Home means the kind of food that comes from a box mix, then I would say Almost Home hits that mark very well. This is the kind of coffee shop/diner that our parents and grandparents grew up eating in. From the moment you walk in the door, you are greeted warmly, shown to a table & properly served by the wait staff. Honestly, the food isn’t bad for what it is, you just need to know that it isn’t the height of gourmet faire. If you get the meatloaf sandwich, be prepared for a couple decent meatloaf slices that tasted like it was created using a package mix. The gravy had a beefy, boullion kind of taste. The mashed potatoes were, I think, real mashed potatoes. I’d go back for breakfast which they serve all day. I think that is where these guys probably shine.

Had Another great dinner, had the Capitan ’ Seafood Platter. Very good fish, clam and shrimp. My husband had his favorite Chicken Fried Steak and our son had his favorite the John Wayne Hamburger. .Very great service, very clean, and saved 10% with our key card from our Motel.6. stay. There milkshakes are very great also.

The service was great however, even though we called two hours ahead of time to announce our large party there was only one waitress on staff. My meal was good but my husband was unable to eat due to his avocados on his sandwich being rotten, they took his meal of our bill as they should have but he’d lost his appetite. Our waitress was very apologetic and tried real hard to make up for the cook staff.

Excellent on all accounts. Quick seating, quick service, great coffee, and superb food. Even on the senior menu, the portion is more than adequate. I like my hot food HOT and my cold food COLD, and it definitely was that. Looks like a happening place, after church crowd.

A mighty fine breakfast! We played the River Rock concert series the night before, and needed some quality grub before heading to Portland. Almost Home was a great alternative to the big chain restaurants. Very friendly service, a pot of coffee greets you at your table(if that’s your thing), the food was fresh and tasty, and they offered free wifi. I recommend.

Unfortunately Almost Home was an epic fail. I used to go to this restaurant on a regular basis when it was a small family owned establishment that offer good home style food at very reasonable prices. That no longer seems to be the case, between the rude waite staff and the mediocre food quality I think I will have to give it a pass in the future.

I used to love this place, they had the best country gravy. Not now. Now it’s barely edible. Poor service. Wasn’t checked on even once after my food was served and I needed ketchup. Won’t be back.

This restaurant got some pretty bad reviews. I don’t think that’s fair. This is a coffee shop. I had the chicken fried steak with red roasted potatoes zucchini with onions salad roll great ice water. Good sized portions reasonably priced great staff. What more can you ask for. I’ll give this place 5 stars.

Have been dining at Almost Home for several years. The food has always been good and the service as well. Breakfast served all day! Menu has many items to choose from and prices are comparable to other restaurants in the area.

We were on a long ride from Portland to SF and in a rush. Unilocaled a diner called Word of Mouth that looked homey and fantastic but it was packed, so we looped back to this place. I had a bad feeling but went in anyway. They managed to ruin hashbrowns and eggs, and the slice of ham looked like a joke store’s fake rubber food, except it was drenched in salt. Should have gone to the Dennys nearby — or just gone hungry — as at least we know the mediocrity formula to expect there. Giving them two stars instead of one because we didn’t get food poisoning or stomach cramps afterward, and the staff was super friendly.

Very mediocre and the place was almost empty on a Saturday night around 6:30 pm. That probably should have been a sign of things to come. Their breakfast food is probably your safest bet off the menu. I’d call this even a notch below Denny’s. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive but the food was just blah. Didn’t try any of their pies but don’t have any plans to go back. It is a family restaurant but I would call it aimed at older diners.

When I first heard about this place, someone told me this was just like another Denny’s or iHop, but localized instead. I went into the restaurant at a down time and ordered their go to John Wayne Burger. The food itself was very tasty and I enjoyed every bite. The staff was nice and friendly, making me felt as if I was«Almost Home»

Ok food if you don’t want to wait long to be seated go here otherwise I’d prefer to go somewhere else. Just your average run of the mill diner. Good service though

I just happened to be driving through Salem and found this place. We had great service. We were very happy to find that they had the football game on, which was an added bonus. The service was fantastic and our food was absolutely delicious. We were sharing a meal and had planned on splitting it ourselves. However, the cook went ahead and split it for us, which was very nice — no added charge like some places do. The only negative is that we ordered our meal without green peppers and they still put the green peppers in. So, we had to pick them out. Otherwise, very good.

Bland, blah and more bland. They don’t properly season anything here… if you like bland food though — this place is for you. I got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and a salad. The salad was made of yellow iceberg lettuce, tons of cheese, a few croutons, one cucumber slice, a cherry tomato, and bacon… not really my kind of salad. The meatloaf tasted like it had been previously frozen or was made using cheap meat and one of those meatloaf seasoning packets. At least the mashed potatoes were freshly made… but needed salt. The cooks here must have missed the class on how to properly season food because it all lacked it — even the dinner rolls had no flavor whatsoever. I will not be back… for that price… yikes. Denny’s or heck McDonald’s is a better choice!

Edible but far from extraordinary food. On par with places like Denny’s and Shari’s. Pleasant and gracious staff was their saving grace. Low quality coffee and pseudo whole wheat toast. 3 egg omelet was made with 2 I’m sure. Great place for our little meeting though.

I am NOT going to talk-up this place… it seems like anytime this place is complemented, someone would come out and shoot it down because they were dissapoined and their expectation is too set too high. Look, I like this place. something about the waffles at this place is just better than ANY other place I have been. Some sort of secreat formula to the batter. And the warm maple syrup… man I am getting hungry just the thought of them. Anyways. everytime I am in Salem, I make sure I stopped Almost Home. Its a Salem’s staple.
