After a couple recommendations, my fiancée and I finally tried this place recently. Definatly a hole in the wall, but great food and drinks! Service was attentive and personable, my martini and fried clams were very good. Reasonably priced compared to other seafood restaurants around. Can’t wait to return.

Hmmm Dubes. We were told by a hometown Beverly native that we MUST try Dubes. Neither the inside or outside are anything to write home about. Dim and a little dingy on the inside. The wait staff is super friendly. But the food to me was just ok. We ordered clam strips and scallops and a clam chowder. All of the fried food was very bland. Seriously lacking salt. If fried food is your schtick, this could be your place. For us, we tried it, and now we can say we’ve been there.

Stopped here with the girlfriend on a exploratory trip through Massachusetts. We wanted some seafood so we opened the Unilocal app and this place had good reviews so we decided to give it a shot. The place is VERY well kept despite the décor being 70s dated. Ordered a mixed fried platter which I can tell they put care into making, but was very bland. Also shared a bowl of chowder which was watery but had good flavor. The lady had what they referred to as stuffed haddock but was essentially a baked casserole dish with chunks of haddock and some breadcrumbs on top. Beers were only 1.50 and the bartender/server was very nice. Some people would consider this to be quite good perhaps, but I’m a west coaster and perhaps the tastes vary so I can’t give only 2 stars. I would not go back unless to drink 1.50 beers

Fish chowder– very watery which the waitress warned us about– it tasted good if you like A watery based chowder. Seafood platter– it was greasy/fried + too heavy + bland. It came over tasteless fries. We ordered this bc the Unilocal reviews made it sound like a great seafood platter for indecisive diners– unfortunately it wasn’t very good. :( Stuffed haddock– hm it was unique, it tasted very good and buttery, was heavy, I guess it was a good dish if you’re not concerned about calories. We sat at the bar to eat– the gal was very sweet and friendly. :)

I have been going to Dube’s for years and have yet to be disappointed with any experience I have had. If you’re looking for fresh seafood in a friendly environment, Dube’s is the place to go! The restaurant gives generous portions with everything being cooked just right. The menu is heavy with fried foods, but there is most certainly something for everyone on the menu. I highly recommend the baked stuffed haddock! This is my go to spot for a good haddock and relaxing experience. The wait staff is always friendly and prompt. The mood in the restaurant is inviting and makes you feel like you’re a Salem local that’s been going there for years as well! Going to Dube’s is most definitely worth every bit of your time and money!

Went for lunch today while in town for business. Had the Swordfish kabob special, served over rice pilaf. Great dish. Server was very nice.

I love Dubes. Great seafood, huge portions! My favorite place to go for a fried shrimp plate. It’s a small family owned place. It’s kinda dark and a little dated inside. I usually take the food to go. I have been going here since I was a little girl.

Truly a hidden gem. The fried seafood is cooked perfectly. I made the right choice in ordering a shrimp po boy during my last visit. The onion rings are awesome. I always get the french onion soup because they know how to make it right. I had the pleasure to visit on Halloween and the staff was very nice. The service was awesome. I highly recommend Dube’s to anyone passing through the area.

Excellent food, quick service in affordable prices. I ordered the mix seafood platter which came with shrimp, scallops, clams, and onion rings. Everything is fried but it doesn’t feel heavy and greasy. Plenty of parking spots in the back, an easy to get to from Boston either from Swampscott or route 128. I recommend this place for anyone that likes seafood, although they do have some chicken, steaks, and sandwiches, but this place is famous for seafood. Don’t forget to order their famous onion rings.

From the outside this place looks questionable, once in side that all changes. Very happy staff welcome you«sit wherever you like». Our server was very friendly, funny and extremely competent . The food was outstanding. Fresh, delicious, hot and very generous portions ! My table had the fried haddock dinner, seafood platter, swordfish kabobs and the triple seafood platter. The onion rings are to dream about! Living in the Boston area the drive to Dubes is well worth the trip. We will be back !!!

Long overdue review! I first tried this place due to raving reviews from colleagues. I must say, I am very pleased that I did. I have yet to be disappointed with the meals. It’s certainly fresh. The fisherman’s platter is quite massive. Definitely for 2. I also like their salmon and haddock entrees. Boiled or baked you can’t go wrong. My favorite is the clams. The onion rings starter is huge too! I have yet to sample their Sandwhich options though. The only thing I dislike is the location. It’s located off of a residential side street, and if you drive too fast you’ll definitely miss it. I’ve only received one bad service in the past.

Best scallops I have had in Massachusetts… From the outside you would never know how much charm and what good food awaits you inside. Reasonably priced and very fresh! We had a wonderful waitress that was attentive and full of unique stories. I can’t wait to go back and eat more scallops.

Lovely little place full of locals. We started with a «mini» serving of «famous» onion rings. They came heaping high on a 9 inch plate! Some mini! The rings were thinly cut, tasty, mostly crispy but a bit too greasy. Next we had a generous bowl of clam chowder with LOTS of clams and potatoes! Very nice favors in the thin cream broth common in this area! Highly recommended! Lastly, we had the seafood stuffed haddock. The haddock dish was delicious with the haddock cooked perfectly! There wasn’t much seafood flavor in the stuffing even though the stuffing had plenty of seafood. Next time I would just go for the haddock stuffed without the seafood and save the $ 7! The portions are very large so consist sharing or plan to take leftovers home. Enjoy…

Seafood was good. Food was definitely good. I’m not sure if this is worth 2 or 3 stars, but I’m giving it 3 for the benefit of the doubt. SERVICEWASATROCIOUS. We waited 45 minutes for a sandwich and two dinners. We ate. Then another 20 mins to get our servers attention for the check. Probably not coming back anyway.

We probably wouldn’t have gone in if it weren’t for the Unilocal reviews. If you’re not a local and blink while driving by, you may miss it. Parking appears to be to the side and rear of the building(at least that’s where we parked). A very local crowd by the way the patrons were greeted. We arrived on a late Friday afternoon(around 3:30 ish) and were directed to sit where ever we preferred. Our waiter came over immediately and was very pleasant. We decided on two of the hand written specials: baked seafood casserole — was good(forgot to request light on the bread crums so had to scrape most of if off), a vegetable(ratatouille was good), a starch(fries weren’t hand cut but crispy) and my friend, the mixed grill — chicken was very tender, steak tips were tender too but salty and had a funny taste(described as teriyaki), shrimp looked like the chicken and was OK, grilled veggies were good. Ample food, prices were on the higher side($ 52 including tip, no appetizer, dessert, water for drinks) for atmosphere and décor(dated and wood paneling throughout), service ok. Most people were ordering the fried seafood which looked great. They have other options(chicken, steak) than seafood. Glad we tried it but wouldn’t go out of the way to return.

Service sucked, food was okay. Hostess was cold. Waitress was inattentive. Hostess sat us and we never saw Waitress for 10 mins. Had to ask Hostess, whose ass was parked on a barstool, if someone was going to take our order. We hadn’t even got drinks yet! Been going there for 40 years. It’ll be another 40 before we go back.

I want to feel like I enjoy my dining experiences when I’m paying for them. I didn’t hate this one but I would not repeat it even on your dime. There was honestly too much about the place I didn’t enjoy. I’m actually wondering about the 48 reviews that rated this restaurant 4 ‘s. Were they coming off a spam and bologna diet? I’m exaggerating but all those wonderful ratings are somewhat misleading in this case. We ordered the fish and clam chowders. I added butter, salt and pepper. What it did have going for it was that you couldn’t get a spoonful of the fish or clam chowder without a spoon of fish or clams. I only wish it had been creamier and had the benefit of more spice through seasoning or herbs. We also ordered onion rings, shrimp po’ boy and a triple platter consisting of shrimp, scallops and whole belly and strip clams. The portions are more than ample but pay attention — your food is on a bed of french fries, the scallops are sliced, the clams are belly’s and strips and the shrimp are so few they are not worth mentioning — I recall 6. This is a $ 20+ dish. You can change the 3 combo anyway you choose. That’s a nice option. The flavors were okay and not overcooked. I’m not a huge fan of their fry batter. I prefer a lighter batter. The onion rings even a small portion are more than enough to share but are just okay and they are definitely not any of the sweet onions usually selected for making rings. The po’ boy was okay. This is part of the problem for me, too much was just okay and nothing was worth repeating. I wanted to season or make adjustments to everything. I could see how the simplest adjustments could improve everything. I don’t want dining experiences like that. I want to enjoy dishes and places so much that I look forward to returning. I found Dube’s pricey and I regretted the experience. I hope they consider some minor adjustments in light of this review but in the meantime I regret that I can’t recommend it. I’m really very sorry about that.
