After spending a couple of relaxing days in Lake Geneva and at the Grand Geneva, my daughter and I decided to stop, at this highly rated farm, on our drive back home. Last summer we had spent our vacation in South Dakota, hoping to see prairie dogs and American Bison up close and personal. We were thrilled to see the prairie dogs in their Badlands National Park home, but the bison were nowhere to be found. Sadly, we returned home feeling a little gypped at not having seen any bison during our trip. So you can imagine our excitement today at finding this off-the-main road, business! We spotted close to 50 bison roaming the farm’s field as we pulled into its driveway. As we were parking, 2 gorgeous, and highly intelligent border collies approached our car and sniffed us. Apparently sensing that we are dog lovers, they led us into the store. There, we were greeted by a very friendly and helpful gentleman named Charlie. He took the time to explain to us the different types of meats and cuts that this store carries. Everything seemed so delicious, we ended up purchasing bison ribeye and flat iron steaks, bison bacon, bison sausage patties, peach jam, and even a bison bone marrow for our small dog to enjoy! Once we got back home, we cooked up and served the bison ribeye steaks to our family and they devoured them and raved about how delectable and tender they were! We plan to eat up our remaining meats by the end of this month. So needless to say, we WILL be returning to Lesters Bison Farm in the near future to stock up on more meat. In the meantime, we happily and strongly advise all of you to visit this hidden gem soon!

My husband and I went to Lester’s this past weekend and WOW! It was wonderful seeing the heard of Buffalo out in the pasture and made me had a small twinge of guilt. Guilt that I was about to buy a dead relative. We pulled up the drive and when we got out of the car two Border Collies came out to greet us. Once they sniffed us and felt we were ok they wondered off. Lester came out to greet us and helped us with our purchases. He is a very nice gentleman who is a retired Marine. Since my husband and I are Navy Veterans it’s not my fault I feel he picked the wrong branch of service. We bought buffalo sausage, raspberry jelly, buffalo bone for the dog and a hat. The prices are high but you pay for quality. He had fresh eggs, pickled veggies and other great items. So, if you like Sunday drives drive up to Salem and stop by Lesters Bison Farm. P. s. I call them buffalo since I am an American and have you every heard of a Bison Nickel or a Bison Rider? I guess not.

Super great place. Awesome brothers. Had a great time. Great selection of bison meat. We bought bisons patties, bison brats, and bison sticks. Plus a bonus we got bison mittens and bison socks. We will be back just because price was right and the people are wonderful. Our family is now bigger because you feel like you are family. Love you guys, Tim and Patti Gleason

Not only was Ron the most gracious host, the products we bought there were delicious! We bought bison jerky and bison beef sticks and bison filet mignon and ground bison. We bought but haven’t tried the Bison hot dogs and sausages yet. Everything we’ve eaten so far is amazingly tasty and the filet was the best I’ve ever had — so lean and tasty. Ron is a veteran and told stories about his time in the military. I am in awe and fascinated by his life and what he’s accomplished. What an inspiration! I’m from Illinois and it took and hour to drive to Lester’s farm but it’s been a week and I need to restock and go back.

This place is a hidden gem. After having a bison burger I won’t go back to just a regular burger and Lester’s is the best place to get your bison!!! Lester can answer all your first time bison cooking questions.

Worth the trip. Lester was beyond gracious. I went for some pheasant pie, bison jerky, bison sticks, bison stew meat etc. Lester not only answered all my questions but he was also just a great guy to talk with. I had a great time just hanging there. I cannot wait to go back in mid May to see the calfs… it should also be a bit warmer then I hope. I came away with some great healthy meat and also bought a gorgeous, soft and super warm scarf made from Bison wool. Looking forward to going back.

For weeks my husband and I had been searching for a bison farm that wasn’t too far of a drive for us. One day we took a Wednesday off from work and went for a ride on the Harley. While on the way to breakfast in Bristol at the 45 Diner(a regular for us), we saw a billboard advertising Lester’s Bison Farm. After some eggs and pancakes in Bristol, we hit the road for Lester’s. Lester’s was easy to find and the row of flags along his driveway led us to the gift shop atop the hill, past the heard of bison. Ron Lester is a proud Marine Corp veteran, friendly and honest. He is a true American raising an American icon. We probably spent an hour at his property, much of which was in conversation with Ron. I look forward to the next visit very soon.

Recently, I mentioned to my father that I made some divine bison burgers. His response was, «Have you ever been to a bison farm?» What?!? They have these things in Wisconsin? Why have I never gone? Why are we not going there right now? Hence, we took a trip over to Lester’s Lil’(well, not very little) Farm. We got to see the creatures roaming about a gigantic fenced in pasture, eating mountains of grass and hay, and being tossed apples from a nearby tree by some of the children that lived on the farm. We were greeted by Charlie & Anita(it’s a family business — Lester was out today). Both were very friendly and informative about the buffalo: how to raise, feed, and best devour these creatures. Apparently, one day Lester came back from Colorado with four bison in his truck and decided to start a business. I approve. For sale, you’ll find the cheapest grass-fed bison around: $ 7/pound for ground bison! Sign me up! We also picked up some rib eyes, tenderloins, meatloaf(for my Dad) and bison TAIL(I’m gonna have fun cooking that one!) We were tempted to get some of the baby(ha) back ribs, too. In addition, there is a fine selection of cow, pork, scallops?!?, cheese(chicken soup cheese anyone?), jams, butter, and other delights for sale. Take a trip out here. Meet and greet the creatures you eat. I’m only knocking them a star because they didn’t have a public bathroom ;)
