Service was very bad, had two waitresses since they were unable to be timely for ordering, and it got slower once there were two. they were probably assuming the other one took care of us. they were nice, but what is nice when you have to wait a long time to order drinks, I received my drinks and my friend didn’t get hers until 10 min later. when I ordered Texas French toast, they brought out(in my picture). when I finally complained after probably 20 minutes of receiving the food, that 1 it wasn’t cooked, very soggy and wet, and 2 it wasn’t Texas French toast, they said that IS their version of Texas French toast and their regular is on small wonder bread. wow. too much Canadian Ham on my sandwich which, its usually a better thing to have too much than not enough so eh. they never asked us how our meal was. immediately after getting the food i wanted to get a new french toast order as well as a new drink but was unable to since the waitresses were preoccupied with whatever they were doing(restaurant was about 1⁄3 full or less). friend referred to come here probably since the better places we’re packed, but I’d rather wait while starving for good food than to still have to wait for«eh I’d rather pass» food.

I have now been to Maria ’ s three times and it has gotten progressively worse with each successive visit. The first visit was 5 stars with delicious food and friendly service. It was the epitome of what a breakfast joint should be. The second time, the food was good but we were pushed in and out so quickly, that the whole experience, all of 30 minutes, left us feeling tense and rushed. The third time was the worst of all. Although we had a large party, it took 20 minutes for a table to come up. Once seated the waitress had to make 5 trips for drinks because she was so crazed to rush around, she wasn’t patient enough to ask everyone at one time. Then, the worst mistake a restaurant can make occurred. Not all the food came at once. In fact, it took an extra 15 minutes for one person in our party to get her food. She just watched while everyone else ate. When it finally came, no apology came with it and the whipped cream which was requested to NOT be there, was glopped on top. It had to be sent back, clearly scraped off and brought back. Oh… and don’t forget about the piece of hair cooked into the fried egg in someone else’s meal. Not going back.

Overall, Experience was OK& food was OK. I have really been looking for a place to go for a good breakfast but this was not it. Food came out fast which was a plus but our Pancake was burnt. There was hardly any cheese in my steak and cheese omelet and the potatoes didn’t taste too great. We happened to sit next to one of the waitresses sisters(the waitress introduced her to all of the staff) and they were yelling across the restaurant to each other and when closer talking about how bad the food was there. Sadly, I will not be returning

I enjoy eating brunches at Maria’s Place. They are open to 3:00pm on most days, and on a few occasions, I will admit I have been«that customer» that shows up at 2:30 to grab a very late breakfast and everyone is always accommodating to those of us who are more on the selfish side in situations like that(there are always a few groups of last-minute customers). The only thing I have ever sensed from the waitresses there are that they feel anxious and rushed during those times, and it has made me feel bad enough not to show up right before closing time ever again, because I understand that they have been working hard all morning and afternoon, serving a large customer base of hungry people and would love nothing more than a few minutes of rest that must feel further and further away during the last half hour of time before the end of their shift. Maria’s has a great breakfast/brunch menu. I have had breakfast there on all but one occasion, where I tried a bacon cheeseburger which I enjoyed very much. Otherwise, I stick with the eggs, bacon, and home-fries combo that does not disappoint. The service there is always pretty good, and it is convenient to receive your bill from the waitress, and then pay at the cashier next to the cooking station on your own time before you leave. They have a little jar of free Dum Dum lollipops there, too! I always snag one before I walk out of the door. Just a little something extra that puts a smile on my face. All in all, never a bad time at Maria’s!

On this beautiful sunday spring morning the boys and I, after waking up extremely hungover. We decided Maria’s was just what the DR ordered! With little to no wait we were seated comfortably in hand-crafted artisanal wood chairs. Coffee was custom brewed by a Ethiopian barista and served at the perfect temperature that gave you the feeling of accomplishment and success! The waitress was as fast as lightning and her genuine politeness brightened our whole tables day! If your looking for the ultimate breakfast experience just like your grandma use to make on Easter morning… Maria’s is your place!

Great place, I love coming here. Very enjoyable traditional local favorite breakfast spot. Packed to the brim on the weekends. Recommend: 3 over easy with corned beef hash, homefries, rye toast and coffee.

After reading all the fanfare on Unilocal my family decided to give Maria’s a try. We went on a Saturday morning and the place was packed. I was hoping this would be a good indication of wonderful food. It wasn’t. We ordered our breakfast staple of eggs, bacon and toast for me, a pancake for our son and French toast for my husband. We all agreed the food was just okay. Nothing spectacular. I’m not sure why this place gets so much hype. Next time we head out for breakfast I’m heading back to Stephy’s in Beverly. Sadly, Maria’s only left me with heartburn.

Maria’s is always a great Sunday morning brunch meeting place! I’m a fan of the coffee(you can tell a lot about a diner from their coffee) and any of the specials are a sure fire bet, especially the Hungryman Special. My mother loves the asparagus and cheese omelet. The ingredients are fresh and the food comes out fast and hot. If you get a spot at the breakfast bar/countertop you get a full show watching the cooks doing what they do best, along with some good conversation. The staff is always friendly and it has a comfortable family atmosphere. I’m a Maria’s regular.

I decided to go because of Unilocaler reviews and the lack of a decent breakfast in the area. I was pleasantly surprised. Maria’s is diner-ific where your name is always«Hon». Our waitress was brisk but efficient. I was in omelette heaven because the asparagus was perfectly cooked-a tiny bit crisp– with just enough cheese to satisfy. Home fries were not greasy with the skin still on the potato. Apple pancake was as big as a manhole cover but with a nice, tangy batter and decent apple presence-not the gooey canned kind. Maria’s has greasy spoon prices and greasy spoon décor but they knock it out of the park with the fresh food. Four stars instead of five because I found a few hairs in the food. Guys, get that together, please!

This is a place that I have driven by atleast once a week in the 6 plus years I have lived in Salem. I would always say«I need to check it out» and never would… because I am forgetful, until today. My «breakfast club» brunch group that I have was supposed to do Dim Sum in Woburn but a bunch of people had to cancel this weekend for whatever reason so I decided to postpone the dim sum until later and one of the girls that could make it today suggested this place instead. I am glad she did. PHew enough of my long winded reason for why I ended up there. It is much bigger on the inside then I would have thought from the drive by’s. Seats a bunch and they turn you over as fast as a place like Red’s. The food is great, decent priced, clean, staff very friendly and huge portions. I couldn’t finish my plate of food. I got the Maria’s special omlette. It was filled with a variety of meats and veggies. I got an english muffin as my «toast»(25 cents extra for that which is fine) and the grilled it. It also came with home fries(the part I couldn’t finish). SO good. I Shouldn’t have even finished the omlette but hey it was so tasty. Husband got Eggs Benedict with a side of bacon. Our two friends– one got a made to order omlette and the other scrambled eggs with hash, home fries and toast. I will go back for sure. I only did 4 out of 5 stars because parking was tight… but whatever that isn’t really a deal breaker for me.

We have somewhat become regulars here. The staff is great. The food is fast and hot! Their pancakes are huge and as others said, if you’re starving, the hungry man is the way to go. Never been let down. The tourists do crowd it, though not as much as they mob red’s. This place is better than red’s and faster. Don’t let the outside throw you off. Try it, you’ll love it.

Perfect family/date brunch spot. We strolled in here around noon on Sunday and it was packed. Both the hostess and waitresses were friendly and sassy.(Just the way I like ‘em!) Service is quick. Prices are reasonable. Food is delish. AND parking is way easier than at Red’s and we didn’t have to wait in a long line!

This place is terrific — a sort of oasis, considering all the trendy salem restaurants to choose from. There’s a decent-sized menu, kind of what-you-see-is-what-you-get, everything is affordable. Love a good neighborhood restaurant! Especially in this economy, its good to support the«Mom & Pop» spots. I’ve been to Maria’s Place a dozen times now. Don’t let the outside fool you, its very clean on the inside. The waitstaff gals are very nice and attentive. Food was good. Not exactly a Gourmet Chef or anything in the kitchen, but food was good. On my most recent morning I enjoyed blueberry pancakes with a side of bacon. The pancakes were huge and filled with an abundance of blueberries. My cup of coffee was always being topped off. All in all, a good time, good food, and good ambiance!

They say that this local restaurant is well known for it’s breakfasts. So we finally succumbed to the local chatter and tried it… its just OK. Our usual fare of 2 over easy, bacon, fries and hash well… just ok. Eggs were done to our liking, bacon salty and too well done and home fries dry. Hash. best left in the kitchen. Coffee. was very good and truly a bottomless cup. Best part of our experience was our waitress… fast, very friendly and always there to refill our cup-pa(as they say in Australia). Décor…call it typical cafeteria style… clean, bright . Our advice… a local hangout that you should at least try… ONCE. The Breakfast Guys

I don’t live in Salem anymore, but recently during a lovely power outage I went with the parents because I hadn’t had a warm meal or experienced heat in two days. When I did live in Salem I would occasionally meet them there for breakfast and always dug the place. I walked in and it was pretty packed, some people were walking out and complained about the price and service, so I wondered if the place had changed since I had been there. Well, I guess they were on crack, because my service was outstanding. I don’t know the name of this girl that was behind the counter, but she was friendly, attentive, and hot. Yes, being hot is a criteria I sometimes judge waitresses on. Omelet was awesome. Corned beef hash was awesome. Coffee was hot and constantly refilled, therefore being awesome. Well worth the trip to Salem from Wenham for breakfast… and not just because the waitress was hot. Did I mention the waitress was hot? I kind of wanted to marry her.

Well, my bf and I were a little hung over one morning and he said«I know, let’s go to Maria’s». Instantly I pray we aren’t heading for breakfast burritos! Sitting in the quaint, carpeted, large, open room, we took a table for two and were greeted by a waitress with a pleasant accent within minutes. We ordered drinks which were set down rather quickly and ordered hungry man specials… big mistake for me as I didn’t touch half of it… good thing they had boxes. It was about seven bucks and included 2 eggs, 2 pancakes or french toast, 2 sausage, 2 bacon, 2 toast and home fries along with OJ. Not only was the food especially nummy and made to order, but it came out under ten minutes from ordering. Awesome breakfast! I only gave it 4 stars because I find it to be a bit busy in the people running around and how the tables are set up… i kind of felt like i was in the middle of a freeway
